I've never owned a new motor vehicle. However I have owned new mobile phones... and doing it by the manual i.e. charging for however many hours before turning it on even though you're REALLY EXCITED ABOUT YOUR NEW PHONE SQUEEEEEEE does seem to improve battery life in the long run compare to just turning them on and playing with all the new stuff. And bikes and phones are pretty much the same thing right? I feel I've helped.

It's more the fact this is the third time in a month due to various things... and the first time I broke all my thigh mussels by doing about 8 million squats without warming up

Best bike clothing shop in London.
Hoggs replied to The Bike Dork's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
There's an Infinity shop in Holburn, I bought my jacket from them (but online) probably worth a pop-in if you're passing. edit - HA! just beat me to it JRH also I see from their website the one at portland street is closed so don't go there -

That's annoying. I'm guessing the insurance people will either tell you where it's being auctioned or laugh manically in your face whilst they devour the souls of children

Proof that the Police get hammered when they get it wrong

TC can I please ask a slightly (ok very) unrelated question (that I am going to link up to slightly on topic at the end) because it came up at the weekend and maybe you'll know the answer.... On Friday night there was quite a hullabaloo on the street! Two fire engines, a police car and four ambulances rocked up to a call from across the way (it seemed medical rather than illegal). There are shop fronts with the access to the flats above via a door to the side of the frontage. For whatever reason even though they had access to the flats they ended up forcing entry into the shop (which is an estate agents so no one probably felt too bad). My question is, in cases of forced entry where it's not for suspicion of illegal behaviour do the police pay for the repair or do you have to claim it on your own insurance? To link back up slightly.. OH said he had heard (but taken with a pinch of salt) that if your vehicle is damaged by an emergency services one it's always your fault for not getting out the way and therefore you have to claim it on your insurance? But from what you said above that doesn't seem true... -
This bike security any good?
Hoggs replied to a topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Someone somewhere mentioned how disc lock on the rear is more of a deterrent as it's harder to move the bike. On the front you just wheelie it up, on the rear tis heavier so harder to do. Unless you have some scaffold pole and a dodgy mate to help. -
pft I have an trip odometer and fill up when it gets to about 120 In theory I reckon I could easily get to 160 / 170 but I chicken out Phooey have you tried tapping on the glass really hard? Worked in one of my old cars

....what is this "fuel gauge" you speak of?? Is it just a light? bulb gone??

Tbh if I hadn't bent my key at a right angle the other week neither would I
-
Keys are quite bendy at the best of times, weakening them by heating and then applying twisting-ness seems like a recipe for disaster... but I am normally wrong. But I wouldn't do it. Do you have a spare key? Do you have the same problem with that? If no, your key sounds worn. Get a copy cut from the good one! If yes, then please seek better advise from another forum member

No. Buy it

Take a ride round the north circular in the rain that should do it -
boooo. IIRC you have to contact the seller first, I don't think ebay will step in unless you can't reconcile with the seller first.

Module 2 - members test experiences
Hoggs replied to a topic in CBT, Test and Advanced Training Information
Bad luck Steve, glad you're (mainly) ok. Personally....I'd say reading the road conditions and judging speeds is a better skill to obtain than countersteering (and has a lower risk of horrific highsides ) which all comes with experience. As you say it's easy to get sucked up to someone else's speed and misjudge things, but mistakes are (annoyingly!) the best way to learn. Glad it hasn't dented your confidence too much! Good luck with the mod2 when booked! -
New gear purchased - Thoughts ?
Hoggs replied to bigup's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
My leakage was from some richa "waterproof" over trousers. Sitting in cold rainwater for a half hour ride home is the worst thing ever. Luckily my sexy army gortex trousers do seem pretty waterproof! -
