  1. you would need to buy a Garmin .. try your phone apps .. whatever one you like .. when you`ve had enough buy a dedicated motorbike sat-nav.. because the free apps are crap and the paid for are expensive and don't work well as the garmin...
  2. That's for creating routes for garmin sat navs He wants an app for his phone Unless a garmin app can accept it on a phone? like i said Basecamp.
  3. Not going to happen .. there is a desire in government to encourage cycling as a "green" form of transport .. number plates , insurance and all the expense and registration requirements would kill that off .. if it gets to the commons.. it will be talked out ... since there will be no government support..
  4. been there done that .. kitted a DR600 with three boxes .. too slow .. got it upto 75mph .. it burnt the paint off the exhaust .. you will kill it..
  5. they will charge whatever the market will bear .. hence the seasonal fluctuation ... but there is a segment of the market that will vote with their feet .. or tools .. they priced themselves out some time ago with me ..
  6. one in carlisle .. and i just did it myself .. and frankly saved money and hassle .. the risk is at my own surety
  7. the first service i usually pay for .. but when they quote upto £300 depending on how many shims will be required @ 600miles and they don`t have a fault code reader.. which i do .. i sacked them off ... I tinker about and like to fully understand what I'm riding because I resent paying the dealership extorted prices .. I did spend a couple of grand ;and will be spending more shortly : to buy special tools of one function , shape , guise or other... and i`m still into pocket .. what really annoys is they laugh as they take out your eyes.... but the look on their face when you order a specialist tool and you already have the part number is priceless ...
  8. Arguably :- why pay a cack handed monkey : frankly that's what some dealers are and at £70+vat an hour : to do when you can do it yourself .. unless its conspicuous consumption .. and there will always be supply where there is demand .. that's where i will buy from .. using my van again if necessary .. i fail to see the point in subsidising an uneconomical business .. not at my expense anyway..
  9. when they charge £150 for a basic service ie oil & filter .. £300 for something a little more involved .. + air filter and £500 for the valve clearance service .. add that up and compare the difference saved by using a non main dealer or doin it yourself .. your into pocket come selling time .. even with the added loss of no dealer service record ...
  10. for 2 hours and £300 you get a valve clearance CHECK .. if any valve clearances need ADJUSTING try doubling that price .. everything is in the description of work offered.
  11. garmin zumo .. & a paper map reserve or for an overview .. phone apps are crap .. people always manage wit this "waterproof" case or that extension lead .. when you get sick of them buy a dedicated sat-nav ...
  12. yeah .. take bike to mechanically competent person ....
  13. Northeast iirc.. it would be on the A3 sized certificate .. if it matters at all ..
  14. i took one lesson .. took the test and passed .. i rode a DR600 as a 125 on test .. On test .. i took two dabs @ braking on a blind bend approaching a humpty back bridge that narrowed with little warning and a car was coming the other way ... On the lesson .. i approached the rear of an HGV on a dual carriageway doing 56mph too close before over taking .. On the lesson ...i over took a stream of parked cars under 20mph with some oncoming traffic .. he said i was over cautious .. nothing new .. make of that what you will ... many a word said in jest
  15. been there done that .. read the book ...got the certificate ... learnt nothing new .... and .. yeah.. I wait for the incoming ...
  16. and do they ride with L plates ?

typically i have four bikes and people to accommodate .. different riding styles .. stages of physical tenacity / decrepity .. and fuel ranges .. to take into account .. and fuse lengths .. so time .. journey lengths .. become critical..

yes .. but if your planning a route across three countries .. germany (free motorways) .. switzerland (avoid motorway tolls) .. austria (motorways but pay the toll sticker ) .. its "easier" to restrict the swiss journey off the motorways using waypoints and then using motorways before and after to save time .. thus not having to change settings ( motorway & toll roads function restriction) at the road side before and after switzerland and still using the one route (gpx.) file.

So.. it seemed reasonable to assume it was faulty.. but if it wasn't, what went wrong? nobody wants to pay an instant £155 fine. Using a route that was over complicated ;to avoid the a13 toll road ;with 9 or so waypoints along the bondersee coast road i failed to include the border crossing point... sat nav defaulted to quickest route .. one junction on motorway .. to the next border crossing...and into austria .. route https://goo.gl/maps/7niqZp9Rgg22 google gives 2 options .. but by missing out the top waypoint ( actual border crossing) i end up on the a13

i`ve looked into the practicalities of stayin in switzerland without a vignettes .. and have traveled around the south shore of the bondersee .. and even with a sat-nav i still ended up on a toll motorway .. fortunately i realised and came off at the next jtn... tedious speed limits .. which all adhere to ... i`ll buy the ticket next time ...

sometimes the bikes are included in the pricing of under 3.5t .. ie switzerland so Caveat emptor ..
