  1. Similar happened to brother, his bike was in for repairs so was on a hire bike, didn't have any rear carry mounting so strapped his bag on the rear fairing. Few miles down the road he sees a cop car turn round and put blues on so pulls over thinking wtf have I done now, they pull up along side and say "do you know your bikes on fire?" The bag had slipped right over exhaust (under seat center exit jobbie) and had acted like a blow torch on the middle of bag, everything inside trashed and all the fairing on hire bike scorched and damaged. At home I always have decent coffee and extremely picky, but also being emergency services I understand importance of caffeine and when needed anything will do and as long as it is warm and wet sometimes that's all that is needed

Absolutely ridiculous, can understand it's not practical at times certainly wouldn't want nurse sipping a cup of tea as they were stabbing me in stomach each night but you lot work so damn hard why shouldn't to be allowed to have a nice cuppa during the odd time you're not making them for everyone else! Have to say hospital coffee wasn't the nicest tasting but getting one after coming round from surgery from the cheerful nurses was the nicest one I've ever had!
  4. With sockets get some decent 6 sided ones (most cheaper sets tend to come with the 12 point star type) 6 sided are much less likely to round off bolts. Circlip pliers (and not the cheapie ones with swappable jaws... They are more grief than they are worth) are often overlooked until they are needed, there's times you can get away with other methods but for sake of a few quid worth keeping on a shelf. As mentioned a breaker bar always worth having. +1 for Halfords pro stuff, can take quite a bit of abuse and lifetime warranty. And also as mentioned the odd special bit, H7 is most common size for brake calipers but for some reason rarely included in sets, even biggest Halfords pro set jumped from H6 to H8. But those sort of things depend on what you need for your bike, but you normally find you need them when you're in the middle of a strip down.

Trying to relive being in hospital and having someone answer my every beck and call but Alexa still won't make me a cup of coffee
  8. Now you've said it I was asked that on CBT. DAS I was just shown how to work the immobiliser then told to follow instructor and straight out for a ride.
  9. Too true, funnily enough on both CBT and DAS not once were we told how to steer.

Well went another step further today and now have a smart car. Picked up an echo input and hooked it up to media interface, also have a mobile broadband hot spot in car and hooked it up to that... Not sure if I'll keep it or not yet, works fine but takes ~30secs to connect after ignition turned on and turns straight off when ignition turned off (media stays power until key removed). Plus while I've got a USB lead and a 3.5 lead (which echo uses) I can only plug one in at a time so would need to switch leads to swap between the 2. May be handy for longer journeys though where I tend to run out of things to listen to Wonder if hue sell headlight bulbs
  12. Hex nuts can work but a lot more fiddly getting in, I glued one to a strip of card to get it in and aligned (also had issue that they are thinner so had to be lifted slightly) but the nut itself was big enough it wouldn't turn in the channel when tightened but didn't over tighten just in case. Sizing different matter, head is not bolt size, 13mm is normally an M8... https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/metric-bolt-head-wrench-size-d_1458.html but that seems large for a bike battery, most I've seen are normally M6,only way to be sure is measure width of actual bolt (threaded part).
  13. Only tea I drink and even then only on rare occasions. Had an ex into these hippy herbal tea things and have to admit they smelt lovely but tasted like someone had just taken a watery dump in your cup.
  14. Normally included in DAS but don't really matter as my local school just knocked price of CBT off the DAS so not costing more or less either way but depends on school.
  15. Without anything in contract I'd tell them to take up sex and traveling. Only possible thing could be college expenses but would need an agreement and tenure for that, they certainly can't demand your wages back not expenses for their vehicle. Personally I'd be cheeky and invoice them for any fuel left in vehicle if you've paid for that.
  16. I'll consider myself young then Couldn't live without high speed internet, wanting to move soon and first thing I've done after finding houses I like in budget is check internet speed.

Can't comment on that device but the smart plugs I use are cheap Chinese... Had to download a mobile app to create an account and then connect to plugs and connect them to Wi-Fi (I'm guessing I could delete that app now but can guarantee when I do I'll need it and won't remember what app it is as I've binned box and everything). Once all setup you download an Alexa skill which is effectively the Alexa version of an app, they then show up as devices under Alexa and can control them through that. Good thing with Alexa is you can install whatever skills you want so while my current lighting is all hue if I got another brand device I can add it along with the hue stuff and would work together.
  18. Police will rarely say who is to blame unless it's obvious due to an offence (e.g. Drink, careless, dangerous, etc...) chances are it was a normal unit that attended not traffic who are very few and far between now so only attend the more complex jobs unless they happen to be nearby. If he had said car driver was at fault or vice versa then that would be quoted to insurance company and it makes everything more difficult if they are wrong and insurance disagrees. Others already mentioned about perils of filtering on the inside, when I was on biker down course they said that whilst most common accident is a car turning out off a junction into path the most dangerous and often not anticipated is what happened with yourself and a car turning right into a junction. Hindsight is a bitch and while you could have done more to avoid it I'm glad you're not too badly hurt. Driver should have checked as well though as said they should have been anticipation that a cyclist may have been coming up on the inside.

There's a you tuber called lock picking lawyer that has reviewed some of the smart lock stuff especially padlocks... Most of them have been built by techies instead of locksmiths so the smart stuff is pretty good and not so easily hacked but you can then open it with a screwdriver Been thinking of building a system using a spare stepper motor to open and close blinds, shouldn't be too difficult. Would like to get heating done as well and can get smart radiator thermostatic valves so makes heating specific rooms much easier rather than the whole house but as with anything could end up spending a fortune
  20. No mechanical reason but practicality... You won't accidentally go into second when pulling away. If going down a step hill you'd use gears to slow down, with neutral half way between gears much less likely to put into neutral which if it was at the bottom could happen and being in neutral down a step hill wouldn't be fun. Plus 2-6 are your main driving gears 1st only for pulling away.

Yep that would work also they have added wait commands into Alexa routines now so you could add a routine to turn on wait 30 mins then turn off for a quick preheat. I've got a timed routine which turns light on dim and then brighter every minute until at 100% just before alarm, makes a massive difference waking up in a bright room and often the light wakes me up before alarm goes off
