  1. Then clamp the lever to the grip to let all the unseen air out overnight. Or with the bleed nipple closed , pump the lever repeatedly then release , wait a second then watch the tiny bubbles rising in the master cylinder . Repeat until no bubbles are visible. Then go and have a cup of tea, then see if you can squeeze any more tiny bubbles out . To be fair this would probably occur naturally when riding the bike. In my experience though, most brake issues are down to muck behind the seals and not air in the system.
  2. Perfectly described , some visible thread is not an issue. Maybe someone fitted aftermarket nipples but chose the longer variety, like this..http://i.imgur.com/PKaQ2Rc.png Row 3 instead of row 4 .
  3. I've been offered an NTV 650 Hawk to do up . This is the chain drive version of the Bros I believe. I haven't even seen it yet . I wonder if anyone has any thoughts about this particular motorcycle. Any faults to look out for ? I'm thinking that selling prices could be driven by the bike's desirability as a subject for café racer projects. There are loads of pics online of customized NTVs that appear to have had a lot of money spent. All views most welcome.
  4. https://www.motorcycle-road-and-race.co.uk/airpro-tyre-repair-inflation-kit best bit of kit I've bought. Plugged the tyre about 2000 or so miles ago (after getting a puncture about 2 weeks from new) Absolutely no problems at all! Yep , I sold a lot of these , never had any complaints. There's a similar product that uses plugs that have a peel off strip but it's been a while now and the name escapes me.Edit... Right ignore that last bit, I can't find any trace of it online so it can't have been any good. Come to think of it I reckon the one with the brown squidgy strips might be from the same manufacturer as replacement for the aforementioned plugs.
  5. Well the problem could be that you're expecting a scooter with an extremely small engine to propel itself and you up a steep hill. Perhaps there's nothing much wrong with it except the fact that it just hasn't got enough power.
  6. Remember to stop at the border, salute and sing the Scottish National Anthem before entering. Wipe yer feet as well. Where's the checkpoint ? http://i.imgur.com/Qq2okjH.jpg
  7. Perhaps Barry Scott could do a better job . I can see the add now Seal it bang Brilliant! Post of the year!
  8. Where it received a fairly unanimous thumbs down . I've worked at ten NEC bike shows where this stuff was heavily promoted with people being invited to stick a spike in a tyre etc. Looking back it reminds me of these desperate characters that inhabit street markets and car boot sales who demonstrate some miraculous plastic vegetable slicer that transforms spuds into curly ribbons but just doesn't work when you get it home . The way this stuff is over promoted is proportional to my sense that it just isn't any good. Perhaps Barry Scott could do a better job .
  9. This is what I said last time the subject of slime and related products was mentioned but I was firmly told that tyre fitters love it and actually promote the stuff . I agree with you , its a gimmick . I put it in a tyre once and every time I went fast the bike shuddered like a brick in a washing machine.

    Recycled stunt bike ?

    Please help. =(

I know that feeling very well, I can't bear to see one of my bikes poorly. If I've started a job I can't rest until its all back together again sometimes I lose track of time and forget to have my dinner. Mind you just about every job on my GSXR involves taking the whole damn bike apart to get at anything.

Yes that's the screw but it looks chewed up to f**k to use an engineers term . I'm thinking you're going to have to take the whole bowl off.

Well I've done 8000 miles in 6 months on an ER5 so you have good reason to be cautious.

It's the colour change that rings alarm bells , why ? Is it a spray job or is it new tank and plastics?
  15. If you have tubed tyres I wouldn't worry , you can put a patch on a tube just like on a bicycle. When you find a screw in your brand new £150 180/90/17 tubeless superbike tyre you might start thinking about putting slime in before pulling the screw out but it rarely works in my experience.

    Electrics

If the lights come back on when you jiggle the key then I would definitely say the ignition switch is at the root of the fault.
  17. No worries.
  18. Cracking bike but I wouldn't go flashing your reg plate online. Some forums are scanned by robots so interesting images sometimes get posted on the wider net. A few pictures of my ER5 were on Bing for a while but the server they were on is now permanently down so they have gone. Like this http://i.imgur.com/FJXWQdH.png
  19. Right, got you. From what I can see most Chinese scooters use a 5mm jet . That's going to be the size of the screw thread not the jet ! As far as size is concerned you'll have to get the existing one out and have a look what's stamped on it . Tip. If you don't have a magnifying glass you can use a phone camera held steady and then enlarge the image. After that just go on eBay and get a few bigger sizes to see which works best. These things are pretty generic so as long as it fits and is the same depth it should be ok.Here you gohttp://i.imgur.com/TOHJqbb.png
  20. A very over rated product . When I worked for a major bike parts retailer at least half of all Optimates sold were returned . We used to put them in a big box and every time it was full up we would call the rep and get them all credited with no questions asked . Then we would start filling it up again . And bear in mind this was at local branch level so nationally it must have been much worse.
  21. Just curious, why have you decided it needs a bigger main jet ? Surely you don't expect it to go faster .
  22. From what I've seen on YBRs if you ride it in the winter the salt will rot some nice big holes in it then it will become much louder all by itself. Seriously, I wouldn't bother messing about with it . This bike is hopefully a stepping stone to bigger and better things so if you keep it as standard you will probably get a few extra quid for it.
  23. Brilliant! Glad you got it sorted . Also brilliant is the fact that you took the trouble to let everyone know what you did and what the result was . Sadly this is not always the case. Well done.
  24. What a jolly good idea.
  25. Step 2 get it all sorted , labeled, and in boxes then do nothing at all until your sure you know what you are doing. Restoring a British classic is a massively different ball game to maintaining a jap 125. You will need a set of imperial size tools for a start. All I'm saying is don't rush in and end up with the proverbial "Unfinished Project" good luck.
