  1. If you want to build a brat/cafe racer get a dead CG125 with a kick start for as little as possible. Sort it mechanically including a Battery Eliminator then chop and style it tastefully. If you get the right look people are selling these for £2,500 .like this...http://i.imgur.com/hy6DHad.png

  3. Thanks! I'm not unfriendly by the way, in fact I often talk to my cat. It's just people that get on my nerves.
  4. I've watched a few youtube videos on changing the oil on USD forks in general and it looks very straightforward. However, years ago I did a similar job on a GSXR 1100 L and I had a hell of a struggle to get about 8 inches of spring back in so as to get the caps back on. I suspect this bike had very non standard springs fitted. So has anyone done an oil change on a GSXR 1100 WP and if so are there any unexpected pitfalls to avoid? Can I respectfully ask that only people who know from experience respond to this request. Please no "I don't know but I think...." I'm not looking to open a discussion.Thanks.
  5. Glad you got it sorted . This reservoir/expansion tank thing is a bit of a grey area.On both my bikes the tank is right at the back of the bike and connected by a long thin tube. This doesn't seem like a very good arrangement to me but I think it's because there isn't anywhere else to put it.
  6. If it's any consolation, when my 2nd gear packed up on the GSXR I still went on a tour of Scotland on it . I seem to remember getting used to shifting from first to third gear. This was ok for getting from A to B but not ideal for drag racing ! I don't know if this would be much fun on a mid range bike like a 600 but the old 1100 took it in it's stride. This was all a long time ago and I don't think I would do it again.
  7. Sounds like worn selector forks .
  8. You say that you have filled the reservoir but is it actually a reservoir and not an expansion tank. If I wanted to be sure that my cooling system was full I would fill to the top of the radiator cap.
  9. All very good points but I think I will carry on dropping the oil out through the sump plug. If the worst happened and I stripped the thread then at least it's only the oil pan ( on most engines ) that would have to be replaced or machined. Also , as mentioned here, the clutch would be in the way on my bike. S
  10. Just found this picture of a very worn fork. Interestingly it's off a Kawasaki 600.....http://i.imgur.com/ujtLHrX.png
  11. But would you want to? If it's broken up inside, you'd be better off doing a rebuild to make sure you got all the bits out.. It's unlikely that anything has actually broken up. Most likely the sides of the selector fork prongs will have worn away. Unless they are really worn thin they will probably look like they were made that way. Here's a pic of a serviceable set from my old GSXR 1100 . If the smooth area is level with the casting then they are worn . If it's deeper than the casting they are very worn. Hope this helps.http://i.imgur.com/s1nVg45.jpg
  12. Nothing stupid about it, it's a motorbike and that's enough. Great weather today wasn't it?
  13. The weather's looking good on Sunday!
  14. Totally agree, daftest idea I've heard in ages. modern engines are mostly alloy, so how much use is a magnetic sump plug these days? whats it going to collect? Modern engine cases are mostly alloy , cranks, gears and bearings are steel
  15. Yes red IS the fastest colour . Everyone except for two people knows this . Basic physics really. Black is so much faster. Advanced physics, really. Red Matter is more powerful than Dark Matter , I saw it in space film.
  16. Heya fastbob, thanks for the reply. Apparently these zzr's have a notorious second gear issue, which is all i can find on the net, and that sometimes the selector fork goes wrong. I may be wrong, but i think i saw a thread somewhere where someone was able to swap the forks for a good set via the inspection cover, rather than splitting the case. I hope this is the case !! thanks again hmm...were they a gynaecologist ?
  17. Both, I'm planning a big tour of the Highlands and islands of Scotland on it in July then I'll sell it to pay for the trip and hopefully the next project. I've been meaning to do Scotland on a smaller slower bike for years.I plan to go A6 then B7078 and just take it easy.See first pic in recent post here My GSXR 1100.
  18. Theyre faster in green as well. Everyone knows red is the fastest colour. Yes red IS the fastest colour . Everyone except for two people knows this . Basic physics really.
  19. Thanks,here you go.http://i.imgur.com/RNuy8mb.jpg
  20. Bought as a nasty dark blue ex training school wreck . Not really a restoration, more of a "Wheeler Dealers " style facelift.http://i.imgur.com/yr7CKCP.jpg
  21. Had exactly the same symptoms on a GSXR 1100 once. I hate to say this but its probably a worn selector fork deep in the gearbox.2nd gear gets a lot of abuse especially if previous owners like doing wheelies. A selector fork isn't expensive but its a big job to replace. You may be able to split the cases without removing the crank and top end by supporting the engine upside down in an improvised cradle. Good luck.
  22. Unless it's a classic restoration I always replace every single screw and bolt with an Allen bolt .
  23. Totally agree, daftest idea I've heard in ages.
