Took the turn for Bishopton instead of Erskine Bridge? Easily done.
Apparently.
I've done it a dozen times but the sign was positioned too early and it was obscured by trees . Probably .

I thought I might take out some breakdown cover but I'm not having much luck because a lot of sites don't recognise Q plates . Any ideas ?

Sounds a nice ride fastbob. I used go rowing on the Avon in Stratford upon Avon, after catching umpteen buses and trains from Cov.
Now I'm not sure why but I was drawn to your "Bike(s)" listing, with the Harley as being 1585cc - I've never bothered to do the conversion from cubic fahrenheits or whatever it is myself - times by two and add 32? Anyway, that's an interesting size, bigger than I thought. So I went googling and one of the top hits, ultimatespecs.com lists some engine details:
Where is the hp?!!
300kg. Interesting. Anyway I'm not taking the piss, I'd love to have a go on one someday, but I never thought to look up the specs before and I'm just a bit in awe of the top trumps nature of some of the values. I bet it's a laugh to ride.
Just spotted this . It's NOT double overhead cam . It's got push rods FFS .

That's the thing , it's a laugh to ride . I'm not making excuses for HD but all the normal criteria just don't apply . You've got to try one but be aware that the more modern Harleys with even bigger engines have got refinements such as twin balancer shafts that take a lot of the character out of them .
People tend to look down on Sportsters but they are actually closer to the rough and ready feel that is synonymous with HD . 1200 cc is not a small engine . Consider that early Electra Glides were only 1200s and it puts things into perspective . And talking of Electra Glides , if you fancy one of these luxurious leviathans there are plenty about in pristine condition at ridiculously low money .

They are still restrained by rules supposedly
No more than 250w, supposed to show power output or motor manufacturer so it can be checked and max speed assist of 15mph, when your overtaken by one on a path whilst doing 20 it's a bit obvious, twats.
Would you want a cold pizza ?

Saw something on Youtube a while back on these, they are Q plate aren't they? Can't remember why, but it was a regulatory loophole type reason. Possibly even emissions related as even with injection I can't see that meeting the criteria. They're burning oil after all.
There was a lot of smoke on startup .

An interesting day , rode down the Weedon in Northamptonshire for a Harley Day at one of those themed cafe type places . Excellent turnout with about a hundred Harleys including my old Sportster . Good to see it being appreciated .
Rode over to Stratford upon Avon , saw some tanks and a bike called a Langan which is a 250 2 stroke V twin and one of only a hundred built .

Not a bad little bike by the way . I had one very briefly. The camshaft is very well engineered unlike earlier Honda 250s . It's kind of a transitional engine that was developed into the Superdream series . Alternatively you could describe it as a big Benley .

Whack a brown seat and some clip ons on it and advertise it in Beard Oil weekly and you should get £3,500 for it easily ..
