K&N are rated as top notch filters usually used in racing and high performance.
According to K&N their casings are made of thicker metal and will last longer or endure a more harsh use.
Because I ride frequently throughout the year water corroded the HF.
Hence going for a more expensive one.
First time using it so I can't say about how good they are.
Only when I change it next year I'll be able to tell how they compare to HF.
Maybe I will cut open the old one and keep it until I replace the new one and compare the 2.
No , K&N is the wrong choice for all weather riding . The handy 17mm nut is only spot welded on and is very likely to shear off if the salt has got at it .

Good news for today!
I mentioned a while back that I was taking a lunge on a position that was 2 levels above where I am now. The aim of it was to at least force/trigger the next step in my career. I've essentially been doing the role above for nearly 2 years anyway, so it's more recognition I'm after.
There was a lot of drama while I was away on holiday, as basically there's a colleague that has been in her role for a similar amount of time to me, who also wants promotion. We've both been fighting a joint battle, but I was the only one to take a lunge for the principle position 2 rungs up.
I missed out on the principle position, but came close enough to the person who got it (who is a lot more experienced than me) that the feedback was to expedite me up to a lead engineer role, and then develop me to principle within the next 1-2 years. My colleague asks if that means a role for her will also be produced, and she's told to apply for it. However as we are open with each other, she knows it was promised to me and there's only 1 available, so she tells our boss that she is going to leave.
However, I told my boss that if I didn't get the role, I was leaving, but also that if I was given the role and my colleague not, I'd also be leaving as I wouldn't stay with a company treating my peers that way. So my boss tells this to the hiring manager, who is basically forced to go upstream to get approval.
And we were both made lead engineers. Result!
Big balls !

Fixed my sticking brake light switch . Nothing actually wrong with it but the master cylinder piston was sticking badly . A bit of WD40 to separate the boot from the plunger and it's right as rain . No more melted tail light bulbs which , incidentally are the same as fitted to a Jeep so you can avoid Harley Tax .

I cannot un know that my bike is called Harriet now . Nah , to be fair , the bike formerly known as Harriet is having a lovely time galloping all over Wales at the moment . We're camped out under a starry sky a few miles north of Harlech where I seem to have made a new friend .

Are you sure you can handle that much power?
It is a step up but I'm gaining confidence .

MOT'd the Silverwing today, passed with a couple of advisories on brake fluctuation.
Already bought a new disc for the rear as he commented on it last year, but I couldn't get the disc retaining bolts undone despite all the usual heating, soaking and hitting the bolt heads.
New pads improved it but its not really noticeable on the road.
Will have to buy a front disc and pads and have another crack at the rear one.
Did 8000 miles in a year, now on 72k.
Unless the MOT states to replace the disk I'd just leave it if you're happy with the braking . Removing stubborn disk bolts is rarely an experience that ends well . In the incredibly unlikely event that the police should question it , just tell them you stuck new pads in and it seems a lot better .

Whatever it is , don't put it off because winter is just around the corner . I fancy a blast around Snowdonia to round off the a memorable year in which I can say that I owned two different Harleys .

I thought this was something serious like a bolt down the cam chain tunnel .

That’s was the answer I had been thinking but didn’t want to hear
Nah , you always get a tight spot , or a loose spot depending on how you look at it , on small bikes . How is the output shaft going to be bent ? It spins round so it's not being pulled in any particular direction . Just buy a higher spec chain .

My Nob of the Day goes to James in Brum . Yes , a fellow member although not currently active . And before there's an outcry I'm sure he will take this in good spirit . Right then . You know that reserve fuel line that you replaced on the ER5 ? The big chunky one that was about three inches too long ? The big chunky one that you folded in half to make it fit under the side panel ? Folded it in half thus preventing any fuel from flowing when the bike goes onto reserve . Yes that one . The one that's been doing my head in for weeks . Nob !

When I ride a bicycle I'm in trainers shorts and T-shirt, light gloves and helmet doing 30 downhill. Suddenly I get on a 50cc scooter and I'm irresponsible if I don't wear Triple A Rated boots, jacket and trousers with D30 armour in 30 degree heat?
There's got to be some balance in there somewhere.
I agree . But on the occasion I reached 46 mph going downhill on a bicycle with luggage , my bare elbows did start to feel very , very vulnerable ..

If there's no chance of rain on Sunday , are you up for a meet up at some equidistant location or even further afield ?

And to be honest once they have passed, I rarely see anyone were something suitable. Flimsy trainers, flip flops, shorts, tank tops etc. I know its warm but personally id still rather have some protection. I wore the same bottoms when my fella took me on a pillion ride even though it was 33 degrees Celsius. Hot? Yes! did I feel more protected than wearing shorts? Absolutely!
I don't get why some are allowed to pass their CBT. The way they ride on those scooters is shocking!
What makes you think they have even taken a CBT ? Or paid for the Scooter ?

So R&RP have done the running in process on their Dyno …
No water or oil leaks
No slipping clutch
No smoke out of the exhaust
No untoward noises
Clip on handlebar wasn’t tight enough & moved when the guy was pushing it onto the dyno causing him to believe it was falling over & put his under crackers in jeopardy
Initial view is that the fuelling needs much fettling £ £
Proper Dyno calibration will be over the next week
No untoward noises . Definitely not a Harley .

Be a crime not to put at least 200 miles on the bike if it's going to be good weather . Where to go , what to do ?
