  1. I was watching a Baron von grumble video when his overtaking/filtering caught my attention.. (skip to about 1:15) Is it OK to overtake like that, so close to oncoming traffic?
  2. Thanks I'd settle for 50 minutes Wouldn't surprise me if it's worn, I don't think this bike has seen a great deal of routine maintenance
  3. Yes! I was being really dense (as people were too polite to suggest), I needed to loosen both sides of the axle nuts to slide the wheel forwards.. Hopefully it's OK now, I don't have a torque wrench so had to make do with two spanners to do up the axle nuts. Many thanks for all the help
  4. I've made progress, got the wheel aligned with chain at the correct tension!! Yes, I've done it back up, should it look like this?
  5. That's showing both sides with the wheel pushed in.. I.e. Not aligned. Once I bring the chain side out the chain is too tight! Not sure how else to explain, sorry.
  6. Thanks for the vote of confidence I will go out and try again. For some reason I can't seem to get the axle straight..
  7. Thank the lord you don't have a torque wrench, that's all I can say... Yes imagine the carnage.. Think I'll have to take it down to the local bike shop.
  8. Ah but when I slacken it off the wheel goes out of alignment it seems I can only get the alignment right with a a too tight chain!
  9. I slackened off both adjustment bolts and pushed the wheel forwards, this left the exhaust side on 3 notches and the chain side well over 4 (counting from the back of the bike forward).. I managed to get the wheel in alignment, according to the adjustment marks either side.. However the chain is now too tight. I think the replacement bolt on the exhaust side is a problem, I can't adjust it as it's too short. Or maybe the chain needs replacing? I can adjust the chain side but then the wheel is back out of alignment.. Bit stumped!
  10. Let's just sort one thing at a time. Once the axle is straight we can get you photograph the sprockets after that whilst they are still on the bike of course and see if you need to change them. That's another day thou. Ok cheers
  11. The sprockets look OK, to my inexpert eyes anyway!
  12. Judging by the position of the adjuster on this pic,it looks like its getting towards the end of its adjustment,i.e the chain is near the end of its life. Also don't forget after adjusting the chain you may need to adjust the back brake and maybe rear brake light switch. Arrgh!
  13. Thanks again all! I'll let you know how I get on..
  14. Many thanks Gary I will give it a go tomorrow in daylight. I hope the fact that the two adjuster bolts are so different won't be a big problem No unfortunately not rennie! I might have to wheel it down to the bike shop, luckily it's not too far away.
  15. Hello and welcome That sounds stressful, I'm sure with better fitting gloves you'll have a much better chance though. Don't worry, on my CBT I revved out of control and crashed the bike through a barrier also took me ages to realise you should hold onto the throttle not just release it Good luck next Saturday, you'll be fine
  16. Hmm so it's: 1. Loosen axle nut 2. Move adjuster bolts fully out both sides 3. push rear wheel in to align axle 4. Pull wheel towards you 5. Adjust bolts back in? So out of my depth
  17. Ah I've loosened the axle nut too much then. Now I'm not sure how to tighten it back up with the circled bit in the correct orientation Also I don't have a torque wrench
  18. Thanks for all the help guys The problem I have now is the bolt and the housing on the exhaust side (the one with the shorter bolt with 2 nuts on) is loose, does that mean I've loosened the axle nut too much? This bit is loose
  19. The bolts are different lengths, the longer one on the chain side looks correct. The chain side
  20. I decided to adjust the chain on my ybr, following the Haynes manual instructions, seemed to be going OK until I realised the chain adjusters don't match.. That can't be right can it!? I don't know how to correct the wheel alignment either. Any help appreciated Left side... Right side
  21. Sorry I haven't been clear at all The noise is there whenever you open the throttle, and I think at idle too though less noticeable. So it can't be the chain etc. as it happens even at a standstill in neutral... It increases in pitch the more the throttle is open. It sounds like this r1, video in post 7 (well the whine, not the engine ) : http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/104-04-06-r1-mechanical-help/300349-05-r1-high-pitch-whirring-whining-noise-problem.html#/topics/300349?page=1&_k=qmxkte
  22. I the words of my father-in-law when I asked for the hand of his daughter: Why don't you fak orf. And you listened to him I'm sure
  23. It does yes, seems to be linked to the throttle.
  24. The wide, massive, gaping hole in your otherwise perfect logic is the people who enjoy VR the most don't have partners. In fact, the majority of their human contact is with their parents when they enter their room to investigate that f**king awful smell. b-b-but I was going to get one I love that kind of stoof. Get one then, never mind 'old man' Fro-yo
