  1. looks remarkably like the NC750X at first glance. even down to the faux beaky wotsit up front.
  2. Did somebody mention "Tour"?
  3. Do the test as it stands, there is no way round that if you want to ride a more powerful 2 wheeler. The only stigma aimed at DCT owners for example are either from those who have never tried one at all, or for just a short road test.. or those who dont understand what they are. I have a DCT and cannot imagine going back to fully manual bikes.
  4. I only have fish and chips on average once a year, as a winter warmer (usually)... or twice if its on the menu at the Schloss. I generally go for the full monty, large cod, medium chips and large peas. lucky to get £1+ change from a tenner. Generally I tend to think a Chinese is better value for money. I have fairly dim memories of a fish and chip meal costing around 20p in the early 70s. - we had a chippy at the end of the street and it was a regular treat on Fridays. And it was usually me that was sent, clutching a list and 50p - which would feed my parents, me and the twins.
  5. this sounds a bit odd to me. Locks and chains are nearly always about the bikes security over night while parked up at home. Not when out and about. I’m fact I’ve never seen a clause like that in the small print. Turning on the bikes own alarm, yes. But not taking a huge chain with you everywhere you go.
  6. They definitely favour you if you own a BMW, especially if it’s a little older or not current.
  7. Received my renewal quote and I just might stick with the same company. Quote has dropped from £118.10 to £108.36, which isn’t bad for a 3yr old bike worth circa £9000. just looked at the quote from Carole Nash who I used for more than 10 years with my old beemers and they want £232.72!!
  8. Slept through it after a last minute night shift, but just to be on the safe side I moved the bike to a more sheltered spot, took the cover off and did that rare thing left it on its side stand. Too dark to see how it fared. I’ll have a look at dawn and put it back into its normal spot. Covered. Looking out front there are definite signs of the after effects. But we seem to have got off fairly lightly this time. I wonder if I’ll live long enough to see these predicted hurricanes due to a warming ocean. That’ll be fun.
  9. Waterproof bags aren’t expensive. My suggestion is measure the footprint you have to fill, with perhaps a little extra length as a few inches hanging off the rear isn’t problematic then buy a bag that will comfortably fill that, then a pair of Rokstraps to secure the bag in place. Done. Travelling solo without the extra concerns of camping makes it easier and very simple. The bulkiest item is likely a pair of shoes for off the bike.
  10. My jacket has a zip-in high collar that has a Goretex liner. So, water that drips off the helmet (or gushes when the weather is far too orrid) is directed outside of the jacket so, that’s the kind of thing I would be looking for. But it would need to be long enough so water will go outside the jacket. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen something like this in horse riding gear shops. Maybe also found in better outdoor stores… or online. Something like this.
  11. Wash it twice. first in just water... 40c. and before you begin, take out the detergent tray and wash it so its completely clean of any detergent residue. a wash with just plain water is like an extended rinse and will remove any detergent residue on the garment and within the machine. this is crucial. Then wash it with Nikwax and follow the instructions to the letter. after this reproof it with an appropriate spray. The whole point of all this is to remove all traces of detergent as this stops any tendency for water to bead off the fabric. the spray will just increase this beading effect. Ordinary detergent turns fabric into a sponge. when water falls onto it it soaks in. rather than bead. which is the opposite of what you want. .
  12. Ive always been very wary about stalls at shows, walking past them without a backward glance. always seems to me the prices were often too good to be true. fine if the gear was being sold as new 'old' stock.. leftovers from a previous season perhaps. But that wasn't the deal (so to speak). I only buy from bricks and mortar shops.. mostly because sizing is too inconsistent and I can't be doing with returns. Its far from convenient having to ride to a shop... but for me thats the only way to do it. Its a shame that local stores are pretty much a dying breed. but hey ho, its what it is. I'll be heading over to Sportsbike shop when the weather is tad milder. I want a new 'summer' jacket for the tour in June. Bits and pieces aside from that I can usually pick up from a local dealers 'gear' section.. or even J&S, though I dont think much of our local store to be honest.
  13. When you were born they should have slapped your mother!!
  14. Bikes from 2018 are I believe euro 4. My own is. Euro5 is I think 2020 on.
  15. No, because I don’t trust myself. Once I get an idea it tends to gnaw away at me until it becomes intolerable. I kinda know that if I tried one. I would want to buy one. And that’s something I just can’t risk. The Africa Twin will be paid for this year and I want to enjoy that, special feeling for a year or two before I think about moving it on and changing. I’m 6’5… 6’7 in my boots so the higher the betterer.
  16. They can reduce wind blast and wind chill. But it’s a fairly minor effect.
  17. Have to admit every time I see one I’m very tempted by the Honda X-ADV. 750cc retuned NC engine proper gear box with DCT. All the ergonomics of a scooter including footboards but underneath is a ‘proper’ motorbike ready for touring as well as anything else you want to throw at it.
  18. According to your own website it is the KLIM Krios Helmet. So, I’m not sure why you’re asking when you have already seen to have made a decision.
  19. Not a forum. A listserv. Actually a GS listserv back in the late 90s when those bikes were rare, very rare in this country and just a little less rare in America where the bulk of members lived. Plus Australians and English speakers elsewhere. I can remember exactly what got me banned, it was my answer to a fairly banal question about what bike you owned before you bought a GS? my answer got me banned: ”A jap 250 triple a couple of Meriden triumphs and 3 Hinckley triumphs”. that was all it took.
  20. Russia is not afraid of the Ukraine joining NATO except inasmuch as it will be outside his sphere of influence. Putin knows full well that NATO is purely a defensive organisation. I guess he’s forgotten that back in 1991 there was talk of a grand coalition between Russia and NATO. Putin is a tyrant, but more than that he’s a gangster money power and more money. And more… with as much as possible pushed towards all of those friends of his. There’s a reason why the entire Russian economy is the same size as that of Italy. The people make and do and the gangsters take and then move the money out of the country. Those houses in Belgravia aren’t cheap!! This brinkmanship isn’t about NATO. It’s about the EU. Putin is terrified of the EU. Terrified. The EU is the single biggest threat to Putins premiership and gangsterism and he knows it. Ukraine joining NATO gives them full protection and freedom to go on and apply to join the EU.. a Russian speaking country joining and then benefiting from membership as it definitely will could very easily bring him down. The nightmare of all nightmares. (For him and his merry band of mates) so we are where we are.. but don’t think for a moment this is completely about NATO. It really isn’t.
  21. Never. Though admittedly I’ve not worn or even looked at ‘proper’ motorcycle boots for years.
  22. So do I, following 11 years using a Zumo 660 and throughout that time have used it purely as a visual aid with the sound muted. I prefer to have them mounted above the instruments so just below my line of sight.
  23. Well I can only speak for myself but I have never seen that before. Never.
  24. odd.. if not unique that they have the gear change on both boots. That kinda implies that they are bespoke unless this is normal in the US. do they have some bikes over there with the gear change on the other side>
  25. Calling @Lateralus
