  1. Good idea, but warning both groups expect you to adhere to speed limits. Motorways generally when joining I accelerate/chase into a gap if I can rather than slow/drop back in to a gap, That way you are looking forward in to the space you will use rather than behind you so much. One on the motorway if I can then go at a happy medium. I try to avoid getting boxed into a particular lane look to keep space around me that allows me to change lane easily if I can. If it is safer to exceed the limit for a short time I will but these days I try to stick to the Limit +10% so I am within ACPO guidelines. Indicators I use them if there is someone around to benefit but avoid starting to indicate where it may cause confusion eg turnings when there are two options close together or to move lane when there is a junction close by. If you are on facebook this guy talks a lot of sense ( Though his voice is very boring to listen too) https://www.facebook.com/SurvivalSkills
  2. Make sure your chains go through the frame not just the wheels. It's simple to pull the axel out lift the bikes and leave the wheels.
  3. Hi With the IAM if you don't want to take the test your don't have to I suspect Rospa is the same the main objective of both organisations is to improve your riding. I deliver both Bikesafe and IAM. Bikesafe is just one day ( in some areas two days) we can give out tips and make suggestions but bad habits take time to change. Taking a course over a few weeks will give you time to develop the skills and incorporate them fully into your riding and driving.
  4. Also on a 125 you will need L Plates and not Pillion until you pass the required test.

  6. Every year I meet riders who are looking for additional training. They have done a direct access course and got themselves a 600CC+ bike because they liked the idea and the look of it. Great but they a scared sh!tless by it. They cant ride it properly they have little control and are a danger to them selves and everyone around them. My advice would be take your CBT get a 125 for a while if you like it then consider the additional training and test for a bigger bike. If you dont like it then you have had the experience you can sell the bike without loosing much/any money and you have learned something. You may even end up being a better driver of 4 wheel vehicles. Much better than spending 1000s on a big bike and riding it 300 miles a year because it scares you.
  7. If it is motoring related try Pepipoo.com
  8. I haver a BMW1200RT I filter with this but change the pannier lids for narrower city lids. The panniers may be no wider than the mirrors but if you have to weave a little the back of the bike takes a closer track to the side you moving too.
  9. Joined MAG for a while but the local group was poorly organised and seemed to be an unofficial branch of a major political party, rather than a group advocating for the motorcyclists. The National group would appear to have got their act together recently so may be something I consider again in the future. I note that the Belgium MAG organisation folded before Christmas and the Dutch one had recently too
  10. Pity you cant export the Cafe information to a POI type file. I will add a few more Cafes in the North West that I visit regularly during the summer. My only concern is will they open again post Covid
  11. Cafe in a garage-workshop that renovates old cars
  12. Motorway services popular with Bikers MC Donnald, Costa and toilets
  13. Back in the 70s I used a 125 for days out with the GF all over the north of England that said I'm probably the same weight now as the pair of us where then. In more recent times I have used a ER6 two up A sprint GT and a BMWR1200RT There is certainly more then enough grunt in a ER6 for most requirements and they are much easier to handle than a Trophy or similar. I come across far too many riders who pass the their direct access then go a buy a litre plus bike, only to find it too heavy too bike or too powerful can't ride it well because they are scared by it. Buy a mid size bike get used to it and gain some experience if later you find that does not meet your needs you can always trade up. Also if you are considering touring test ride any bike for several hours before you buy it. If your touring you could be in the saddle for a whole day, not good if your in pain after an hour or two because the riding position does not suite you.
  14. Ebay HYOSUNG XRX RX 125 2001 125CC?
  15. Aprilia to modern you should be looking at bike engines over 10 years old probably 20 years or more
  16. Hi I have been using Helmchat (android) recently works OK if you have a decent 3-4G signal It piggy backs another group chat platform but tweaked for bikes and BT Helmet's. It will work on IOS but you use the app it piggybacking OK if at least one is on Android but I not sue if how well it works is all are IOS.
  17. Hi I have been wearing them for years I wear glasses and can put the helmet on without removing the glasses. No messing about trying to get my glasses back in the right position. Most recent is a Schuberth C3 Pro prior to that Nolans. Not had a problem with any but then thankfully I have not had to test them against something solid.
  18. Hi GMP have one thats used on the Bikesafe events. Usually its ridden by the teams Sargent. Not sure as he will let anyone else near
  19. I don't need to check my shoulders. If they were missing my arms would fall off. Blind spot check on the other hand are often a good idea especially if you have dodgy mirrors or have not been checking them. Then when I filter past you it is not going to be a surprise.
  20. Hi The leather will stretch a little but in winter you may want thicker socks so look for a comfortable fit. Gear change can be moved depending on the bike will depend on how it is adjusted but you should be able to move it to a better position
  21. Many cameras now use infrared not a flash
  22. I had one for a short time it worked much better if you allowed it to rev. It may be a V twin but it liked to rev a bit. It would maintain 70 two up but not in 5th you could throw it around on the twisty bit but you needed to work it. The controls are forward but not as much as say a Harley or the Triumph cruisers.
  23. It would not make any difference pass or not they would still drive. The number of vehicles that are driven by unlicensed drivers with un-roadworthy vehicles and no insurance is staggering. Compulsory retests are not going to bother them, they will drive anyway. Totally self-centered individuals with contempt for the law and the rest of the population. Unfortunately the only way to stop this is for more traffic patrols stopping and confiscating vehicles.
