  1. Happy new year everyone! We are considering another bike in the house. Needs to be CBT and ULEZ complaint. It will be mostly used for commuting. Cbr125r and CB125R were front runners but I've seen a few Tuono 125 for sale and in paper they look like a decent bit of kit. 15bhp, big enough for a 125 and decent reviews online from journalists giving 1st impressions. Has anyone on here any real life experience? The Honda were short listed as they are pretty much bulletproof. Are there any known gremlins lurking in these machines? Thanks
  2. Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for an app that covers the theory test.

    Oops

I'm sure given enough time he will recover.
  4. I had considered the new keeway rkf naked bike or rkr sport. Even some of the bikes I mentioned seem like targets. On paper it looks like a great 125. But will likely loose 50% of its value in 1 year, then rust and fall apart.
  5. Due to work I changed from 2 wheels to public transport. Riding the bike to work didn't make sense. However things have changed again and I'm considering buying something to commute in to central london again in the new year. My plan is to buy something smallish, light and reliable, (used z300, cb500, duke 390 are some bikes I've considered.) Theres nothing wrong with any of them bikes but having something a bit sportier or a bit flashier or more expensive just seems like asking for trouble. I'd love some mid weight supersport but in london, parked on the street it seems like only a matter of time before its nicked. Crime in central london has influenced my decision on what to buy and how much to spend. Is that the norm now?
  6. I'm more clued up on cars than bikes but something I always looked for in addition to the mileage is the number of owners. If the bike has changed hands several times and had low mileage then I'd be more likely to to cautious.
  7. Both would have the same power but wouldn't the 650 be heavier too. So the 500 would be livelier as its lighter. Also after 2 years you might be bored of the looks or something and feel like changing the bike even when its unrestricted. I dont know but does restricting the power affect mpg or tax bracket.
  8. My first year quote was 800 FC from MCE woth 1k excess on a cb125f. Having played about on compassion sites my renewal will be about 650. I really wanted to do my DAS but it seems there's no point. Any bike I've looked at 500-650cc is well over a grand in insurance. Weirdly a cbr125 or rc125 is £100 cheaper to insure!
  9. I was in the same boat 12 months ago. Several years driving and got my first bike last year. Any road with an M in it is to be avoided. Although in a 125 (I have cb125f) I'd avoid a motorway even if I'd a full licence. Accidently ended up on the M11 one windy day. I was convinced i was going to die. Luckily just like in space. In your helmet nobody can hear you scream!
  10. I've been using my Hood jeans in the hot weather commuting through London. They are quite heavy but this isn't a surprise when you consider the denim, kevlar, armour in them. Combined with my Merlin textile jacket I've not had any problem with the heat. I did get caught in in a storm recently. Merlin jacket has a hidden mac that goes over the main jacket. Worked 100%. Hood jeans though absorbed every drop or rain and deposited it in my boots.
  11. Given the rain returning this week I thought I'd mention the Merlin jacket comes with a light waterproof jacket hidden in a pocket in the lower back. Commuting home in Friday it saved me from a very wet journey. I'd no idea it was there until a few days ago. It held up perfectly even in them awful storms.
  12. I ended up choosing an icon mesh af jacket. But a few days after placing my order I got an email saying it's out of stock and will be back in 10 days. The great British summer may not last that long! So I cancelled the order and switched for Merlin mondello mesh jacket. https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/258777 At £77 it doesn't break the bank. I've been wearing it 2 weeks and I'm happy. It's comfortable. It came with CE elbow shoulder and back protector. There's a lot of mesh but also accordion type fabric in strategic places and an extra metal plate over elbow and shoulder. It's not the lightest but it has done a great job in the recent heat and as a fairly new rider I still feel safe in it
  13. It's a nice looking jacket. Any idea what exactly is" boomerang mesh"? One of the issues that stood out is many brands have their own version of textile and it seems impossible to know which ones would actually protect you in a slide.
  14. I've been wearing the blade textile jacket and trousers for a few months now. They are both very comfortable. The armour doesn't poke you like some brands do. They feel very safe. I feel confident that should things go wrong they will stand up to the task of keeping me in one piece. Considering that they don't feel heavy. They are well priced for what you get. Removable lining means you can get 3, maybe 4 seasons. The zips in the pockets are sturdy but fiddly with gloves on. In the summer, over say 16 degrees they are warm. There is a rear vent in the jacket but that's it. Nothing in the trousers. when the temp is mid teens or higher and I'm commuting home and stopped in tesco for a few bits my shirt is damp and stuck to me and guaranteed sweaty gentleman bits. There are much better jackets and trousers out there. But for bang for buck these are very competitive and ideal for someone new to two wheels.
  15. I've stuck it as long as I can but the heavy rst blade is going to turn me in to a sweaty puddle soon. It's late in the year but I think I need to get a lighter jacket. I've been looking at the knox zepher jacket and the rev it torque jacket. I'm on a little naked cb125f. Most of my miles are city driving with a little blast of dual carriage way. Both jackets seem to be quite similar although Knox is a little better looking from the online photos. What do you think of the 2 jackets or is there something else I should consider? Looking to keep it under £200.
  16. Have a look at pewag security chains from brindleyschains.co.uk Their chains are a little more than oxfords but seem to be better quality. I bought some recently and really am impressed by them.
  17. I'm down SW most of the time.
  18. My sense of direction often let's me down but I don't think my commute through London has ever taken me that far off course!
  19. After much deliberation I decided to give 2 wheels a go and recently picked up a 2018 cb125f. I've covered about 100 miles now and loving every minute of it. It's quite nippy up to a certain point but not the fastest thing on the road but for now it ticks all the boxes I require, even if it is bright yellow.
  20. I saw some under £100 on their web site; they're running a sale right now. But perhaps they don't have your size in. I found that the sizes run like normal sizes. I got a longer leg that I would normally, as I prefer to pad around with baggy ankles when I'm off the bike than having the legs ride up towards my knees when I'm on it. The only ones on sale are 40 inch waist or higher. I'll get there one day but right now I'm smaller than that size. I got them a little longer than normal though so the knee is in the right place when on the bike.
  21. I've opted for hood jeans. Great reviews for comfort. Fully Kevlar lined and have d3o knee and hip protection. I've spent the extra £12 and got the CE level 2. And they apparently are not affected by moisture unlike some other Kevlar products. Being somewhat vertically challenged, having the option for leg length is a plus. I'd be lost in a pair with a 33 inch leg like some manufacturers only provide. Thanks for your help everyone.
  22. The 'private' price for a leg rebuild and skin graft is around £17.5K so £150 sounds cheap to me! That is quite the price difference. And the £150 is much more convenient too. What I meant was if there are 2 products out there that have the same performance then I'd be choosing the cheaper.
  23. Thanks for the suggestion of Hood. They are on the expensive side though. Looking at their site they are about £150. Do they tend to fit to size like a normal mean would?
  24. Summer is threatening to break through at last. My RST textiles are very warm in the evening. I'm looking for some good jeans and trying to keep things under £100 if possible. At the moment I've seen Course and Bull-it. I'm wary of Course as the description is vague. Bull-it have their covec material and spare for knee and hip armour so I'm leaningtowards them. Anyone got any suggestions or comments on these brands or others?
  25. I have one of these bags for 2 weeks now. Construction and materials are quite good especially for the price. The hard shell looks good and is comfortable to wear. But as mentioned above there is no 'give' so you can't fit much bulk. I use it for work. It fits my lunch and gym kit which is all I need.
