  1. It's a 39L shad box. Something like this. https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/392924?gclid=Cj0KCQjw6-SDBhCMARIsAGbI7UiroBHPfDlq1f8tK0T3UwAYitzcmi9y1r7pWb2LqGAiOJX7-ZTOuT0aAkidEALw_wcB
  2. Well I got the bike back a few days ago. Lucky enough things weren't as bad as the seem. After an inspection and some minor cosmetic parts everything is fixed. Well with the exception of my top box, the lock is f**ked. So I'll need to replace that. Big thank you to the motorcycle surgery for not taking advantage when they easily could have. https://www.motorcycle-surgery.co.uk/
  3. I always have my bike chained up properly at home and out. When I tried insurance quotes with and without locks and chains there wasn't a penny in the difference so I've got no security devices etc registered on my insurance. Just another way of insurance not paying out
  4. Ive gone and bought this GRoller. Yet to use it as the bike has been in the garage for a bit. But with summer and commuting on the horizon again then there will be much more Sundays cleaning it. Box Biro for scale
  5. Ive used MCE for my 125. They are by far the cheapest especially having a London postcode. However be warned. The excess is huge. I have my excess insured by a 3rd party. If I claim from MCE I pay the excess then claim it back from the 3rd party. Also the MCE policies are terrible. Don't expect much pay out if you do crash, need medical attention or legal costs covered. Finally, their service is poor too. Personally I found even sales staff to be rude. Other policies are out there with far superior terms. I went with MCE as they were £600 cheaper than the next quote. Welcome to the forum. Best of luck with the CBT
  6. I think you need to supply more info for people to give their suggestions. Max Budget? What will it be used for? Your own ability, probably don't want a crazy rocket as a first big bike Do you drive in ULEZ zones? Particular style of bike that interests you? Age and if you are quite tall, short etc?
  7. Firstly I thought this was going to be a discussion about a heavy handed bouncer on a long standing Australian soap opera. Now that I've read what it actually is, these are my thoughts. Sold secure gold or diamond rating is a good place to start. Some insurance quotes will be lower when your security has this rating. There's lots of ground anchors out there. Pragmasis or Almax are the big hitters when it comes to home security for anchors and BIG chains. Oxford beast stuff too. You want a chain to be tight and off the ground so get the shortest chain that's practical. Disc locks are the next thing. You can get locks like an Oxford nemesis which is a U shape (basically a large padlock). You can get ones then that stick in to the holes in your brake disc. Just be careful to get one where the pin actually fits in the hole. Having an alarm or an alarmed lock like a Oxford boss alarm is good to make noise. Or kovix make great stuff but they don't get them sold secure rated which I don't understand. There's lots of trackers out there. Some are wired in. Some are battery powered so are easier to hide. Both have pros and cons. Out and about you could have a smallish 12mm thick chain like one from peweg at brindley chains. Light but strong. Used in conjunction with say an Oxford boss alarm and a disc lock. Just depends where you're parking and what you can carry. Grip locks add another level but are defeated in seconds. You'd be better buying a decent cover. Obviously parking in a garage or shed etc at home is best. I'm sure there's much more but that's what I found over my short level of experience.
  8. No option for buying a storage unit etc as I've no garden I could use. I've added a few more locks. I think leaving the box unlocked is a good idea from now on. Although the box is now broken so can't lock anyway. They dropped the bike ripping the cover off. Lucky enough the box took the brunt of the drop so no damage to body of the bike. I think getting a monimoto tracker would help. At least that way I would be alerted. This happened at 6 apparently and I heard nothing. It's booked in to the local garage now to get a proper look over before I ride it again.
  9. Yeah I've heard of that happening in various insurances. Was on watchdog on BBC one time. Person rang about a claim to cost it and decided it's better to fix it themselves rather than claim. Next year, premium hikes up as the insurance company stated that their statistics show that someone who has had need to claim or repair themselves are statistically more likely to claim in the future. Scandalous that they can apply that twisted logic.
  10. I've added extra locks and alarms. It's recovered and strapped to something solid. I've nowhere to lock it up. I can't ride it away somewhere as the throttle is broken. So I can't see what else I can do.
  11. It's on the street outside the house which is a maisonette. We rent so I couldn't put a camera up. Also I secure the bike to a lamp post but not always the same one as other residents park up beside it.
  12. I've rang police and was directed to fill out an online form. I'll have to wait a day or 2 for them to get back to me. Local councilor apparently lives on our road so the other guy has reported to him and he's doing something. Not really sure what though. Thinking of getting a monimoto tracker or something similar. This all happened at 6 am and I didn't hear a thing.
  13. I've 4 good locks and 2 alarms on it now. Unfortunately nowhere else to keep it for now other than push it to a random street
  14. Today marked a landmark experience. I came outside with the plan of a wander around on my bike to find it someone had a go at it in the night. The cover had been taken off and one mirror broken. I assumed someone had parked alongside me caught the cover when pulling away. A neighbour say me and said someone had a go at nicking his bike last night. His alarm went off and he opened the curtains to see 4 lads in balaclava attacking his bike. They managed to rip off his top box and steal a lid that was inside. He said they knocked bike over. He picked it up and put the ripped cover in to my broken top box. Now my top box will close but not lock, one mirror is smashed and the throttle housing has a crack. Also the throttle is sticking. I'll drop it to the local mechanic tomorrow. The neighbour has filed with the police. I dont know if I should too. Will it affect my premium on insurance next year? Given the tried to access top boxes I'm not sure if they were after the bike or chancing that the box had something in it. Either way I'm pretty angry. A few neighbours have ring doorbells so they are checking them but that won't turn up anything if they are wearing balaclava and probably on stolen scooters anyway.
  15. Some are easier than others. My hjc has it on the top so it's easy to get at with either hand.
  16. Yeah it's the speed of the change more than the gradient of darkness that concerns me. I'd be worried that it doesn't change quick enough when coming back to light and having a dark visor on the dark could be dangerous.
  17. I've had my hjc for 4 years and Im thinking of changing it for something new. Commuting means lots of days with low sun so I like having an internal sun visor. Are transition visors any good? I've seen Bell do some and wonder if they would be a good alternative.
  18. I've always roled my bike on to the street outside our house and washed it there. I've never considered that it might be illegal. Nobody has ever said any thing to me. Mid-wash last week two 6 year olds stopped beside me and had a chat between themselves about how shiny it was. Adults have a little glance but that's them being nosey. I think as long as you're not in the way and you're carful not to accidentally spray a passerby then you'll be fine. As mentioned above, just make sure that opportunist thieves aren't hanging around.
  19. I'm glad to see they are improving the design. I like the idea but I thought they could be more secure. At just under 3kg you could have this or say an Oxford boss alarm 16mm and an Oxford nemesis 16mm for the same weight. Granted you can't use them to attach to something else. But you get an alarm and 2 things that need cutting. One thing in the Kickstarter I notice is that they mention several tests they have carried out but they don't include an angle grinder test.
  20. Ya m thinking Oxford boss for front and nemesis for the rear for when it's parked up 9-5, especially as I'll be back in the office again soon (hopefully)
  21. I did think about it. Would be fine for a quick trip to Tesco but I think in central London am angle grinder would slice through that in seconds.
  22. I'm getting annoyed carrying my chain around. It's heavy, it's large and it takes up a lot of space. Where I park at work is a great spot but there's nowhere to chain the bike to. The same for my gym and while I'm at Tesco. So I'm thinking of buying a decent shackle lock instead. My thoughts are either the Oxford 16mm boss alarmed or the kovix 16mm alarmed u lock. One of these combined with the Oxford nemesis disc lock or the milenco u lock which is kind of similar. Any idea if any of the above are better than the others?
  23. Have you're bull it jeans arrived? I'm thinking of getting the covert slim ones but trying to work out my sizing. If you're looking for a summer jacket I think the Ixon Filter jacket is a contender. I'm certainly thinking about it for myself. Maybe in the green to have something different than the usual black. https://www.fc-moto.de/epages/fcm.sf/?channable=0209906964003135333537323835393398&ObjectPath=/Shops/10207048/Products/Ixon-Filter-Motorcycle-Textile-Jacket-2019/SubProducts/Ixon-Filter-Motorcycle-Textile-Jacket-2019-0014&Locale=en_GB&gclid=Cj0KCQiAyoeCBhCTARIsAOfpKxggH4t-5T5PcFoPwY7zfb9nuRH5Pb9NGgG4KlfCSiVvAq5pe_gZkUMaAgtlEALw_wcB
  24. I've been using muc off for a while as they had a deal on Amazon on a bundle. It always did the job. I've not used tru tension but looking at reviews they are all pretty much as capable as each other
  25. I think they are just for cleaning the chain not proper work on the bike. Some models have the rollers at an angle forcing the spinning wheel in to the middle. Either way I'd never have the bike switched on when up on the roller.
