  1. Richyvida has a channel where he does a lot of group touring. He records his voice through a separate mic to his camera and gets his mates to do the same. Then he syncs the video/audio together. It would be great if there was a Bluetooth helmet coms recorder but I don't think it exists.
  2. I'm just about to pick up a Bagster tank cover (Ebay). Other than actual Bagster tank bags, does anyone have any other creative options?
  3. After less than 2 years I am on my second set of kit partly for this reason. I would start by asking the question "what am I riding, when, and where? If you have the luxury of only riding in fair weather you don't need to invest in water proof gear. You might buy something for summer and only need to wear a shell over the top. For slower riding you can even buy external pads to wear on top of other gear. (popular in India). If you're delivering pizza, that might be the way to go. If you're buying a 100mph bike you need to be prepared to crash at 100mph. I don't think there is such a thing as starter gear. Protection from impact, abrasion and weather costs money. Money saved will be money spent twice.
  4. I got the Pactalk slim and then realised that I don't know that many people. Its good until you get so much wind noise that you can't hear anything at all.
  5. Not quite but a bit. The thing is that its Honda silver which borders on gunmetal or:- "completely invisible in the dark" camouflage. I don't want adventure bike lights on a VFR. I was thinking about something to draw the eye without blinding it!
  6. Call me a tart if you like but I feel like adding some led strips. to the side and rear. there are lots of strips on ebay but does anyone know of a reputable company that sells a whole package?
  7. an off road or super moto course. I imagine it would be fun but more importantly would get him used to sliding the bike. So its a safety course wrapped in a big grin.
  8. New adjustable / short leavers (why would you want leavers wider than your hand?), fuel system cleaner (its been in storage for ..... most of its life). Rode it in a straight life and opened the throttle (holy fork its dangerous!).
  9. We get our Keyway spares from Gibson Motorcycles in Welwyn Garden City. I don't know if they do mail order but they are fairly flexible.
  10. Cheers. Mine is a 2011 so just out side that ( have messaged them). I have the original owner's address so I might drop him a line to see what mods he might have dome to it. It looks like he cared for the bike. He didn't ride it often (>1000miles/year) but when he did he used all the tyres!
  11. I measured my sag (40 front, 44 rear) but the rear preload adjustment isn't how or where I expected to find it. I'll wait for the heynes manual to arrive in a couple of days. Does adjusting the preload change the seat height? Ideally I'd like to drop 20mm but anything would be welcome. Next post could well be about how to drop seat height!
  12. New bike. New problem. The new one came with a Monokey top box. My last bike was Monolock and I will keep the box when I sell (they don't add value). I could just go with it except this Monokey box is huge and the old Monolock one was just big enough for a helmet or my sandwich box. They don't seem to make a small Monokey box. The VFR has no storage at all so I still need .... something, even if I don't want an actual top box. ( there must be a market for a teardrop box) I could switch the mounting plate to a Monolock style but they aren't as robust (although the actual mounting systems are both bullet proof.). I need some informed opinions.
  13. That wrench is OK. I bought a Silverline one that looks identical. I checked it at work and it was accurate within 2%. You cant say fairer than that.
  14. Rode it for the first time ..... in the dark .... 200miles Manchester to Hertfordshire. 6:00 just after the shops shut across the Peak district in the dark, as the mist rolls in, is not the way to learn how you bike works. 2011 VFR800 ABS. Its huge and heavy and brutal. I can understand what they say about the VTEC cutting in on a corner. Anyway, nearly 11 PM by the time I got home. I'll be fitting heated grips ..... tomorrow. Bad point ... I've transferred my insurance across so I can't ride my CRB500R anymore. I will miss her.
  15. I passed my A licence on 20 December 2018. After the first 12 months and 13,000 miles. Some observations in no particular order. Gyroscopic force is real. I used to think that it was made up science as far as bikes are concerned. Now when I approach a tight spot while filtering, I always drop a gear to raise the RPM, Keep both feet on the pegs. ALL the braking is on the rear. I have to remind myself not to drag the brake. I haven’t dropped it although it did fall over. Engine off, no one riding and I was next to it on the wrong side to do anything except slow it down. No damage. Frame sliders save paint. I’m not convinced that “loud pipes save lives” but in traffic, drivers usually hear the guy behind me. All the power in the world won’t get you through traffic faster than a scooter, but I still don’t know why scooter riders dangle their legs. Cheap Waterproof gear .....ain’t I tried the riding position on a cruiser/bobber, albeit a small one. Ugh! Sports all day long. It’s not the speed I enjoy as much as the process of riding a bike. I didn’t think about oiling the chain before I bought a bike – even though I’m a cyclist. My insurance company has no distinction between 15,000 and 30, 000 miles. They don’t care about the alarm. Only the immobiliser. If you already have that, a Datatool won’t drop your quote. The insurance for a VFR800 costs less than for a CBR500R …with less than half the HP. Buy electronic goods in the country you intend to use them otherwise you have a cross border multi lingual warrantee issue. I got bored with Yammie noob, I even got bored with itchyboots. If Ryan F9 made more content I might get bored of that too. I get much better Miles per gallon than advertised. Car tyre garages won’t touch bike tyres – even off the bike. Yeah Ok, my bike is too small. In my defence I bought it as a trainer to learn how to really work a bike. At that time I didn’t have a 25 mile commute. To ride on a 1 or two hour trip at the weekend at 70 – 80MPH is ok but not every day. New year, new bike!
  16. yeah but, You can only learn the average advertised price. Not what they sold for (or didn't). I've only sold one bike. It took 4 weeks to go and I had to drop several hundred. I also had call from dealers offering half its advertised price. If I had settled it would have pulled down the average. So Advertised price is probably not a good guide to selling price. Unless we know how much a dealer typically loads the price.
  17. All the print versions have gone. I used to buy Parkers for cars. There was also glass. What replaced them? Recently I found www.thebikemarket, but they don't have a mileage calculator so its just year and model.
  18. Damn! I thought it doubled as a life raft.
  19. So, 13000 mile in my first year with a full A licence on a 2015 CBR500R. I bought it because I wanted to learn how to *work* a bike rather than be the guy who can't corner and just squirts down the straight. However I want to move up a size before I put too many commuter miles on it. That will probably mean an older bike. Miles aside, how old is too old for a daily ride?
  20. We were part of the EU therefore WE also created them.

    Chain Oil

Well... the official name of the company is Nissan- Renault. In their defense Renault have been making engines for other cars for years, Volvo for instance. Its not a dark secret. They are often best bang for the buck.

    Chain Oil

I've been using a wax based product for the last couple of months. Before that, gear oil. I keep track of my miles per gallon. I was recently wondering why it has dropped. WD40 contains some very light oil. Light oil evaporates leaving you with nothing. I know that road cyclists use it because it cleans AND lubricates, but they don't put in the same miles and they lube constantly.
  23. Being a chemical doesn't make it bad. Water is a chemical. I was asking if the actual composition was different to a house hold cleaner (which we spray and breath) You answer reminds me of the sales assistant at my local J&S when I told him that I sometimes clean my chain with paraffin rather than a branded cleaner. He said it might corrode the chain or the o-rings, but then did admit that he didn't know "what is in it". Paraffin is a light oil. Ignorance is why we give our money to big corporation ....... and governments.
  24. Is there a chemical difference between Muc-off visor cleaner and any supermarket window cleaner? What about ready mixed screenwash?
