1. Just being Devil's advocate here:- How do we KNOW the the tyres are rubbish? It turns out that they're NOT from China after all but even if they were, So what? Half the components on all our bikes and 80% of everything else we buy comes from China. They can have good or bad specs just like anywhere else. In any case the Keyway superlight is a heavy bobber bike with a low CoG that makes 50MPH. There is a limit to how much trouble you can get into with that. Its not a superbike, the tyres wont look like superbike tyres. Maybe he should spend his money on gear that he will use on his future bike, petrol to do the learning that he bought it for, or training to go DAS.
2. My wife is trying to book a theory test in Hertfordshire. However none of the local theory test centres are running motorcycle tests.
3. Unfortunately I don't have CE marked fingers. I didn't think that I was that far off EU standard. I don't know where fingerLESS came from. Still looking.
4. I just spent 1/2 hour looking at the glove wall in J & S with no success. I looking for gauntlet style so the will fit over a leather jacket an I could use them on a track day. 2 issues:- 1/ Most gauntlets won't fit over the sleeve fastenings. 2/ All gloves' fingers are too long for me by about 10mm. Is it just me?
5. 1/ Whaaaaaaaaaat? 2/ I seem to remember an underwhelming majority voted to leave the EU and the door has now slammed shut, so EU Directives don't matter. 3/ What about A licenses. Are they due to change too? Can we roll back to 2013 please?
6. Pearson is the contractor who currently run the UK driving tests on behalf of the DVSA. If you are wondering when your test is going to happen its all wrapped up in them. Now, I could not verify this on line but according to an instructor I met today the story goes like this:- All testing was cancelled because of Covid (we all know this) Pearson keep postponing the date that tests will resume (we all know this) ..BUT Apparently the DVSA said that testing could continue when they had submitted an acceptable risk assessment, but Pearson has not sent one. Pearson has lost the contract - So Pearson don't give a fork. In 2014 the government was going to award the the contract to Learndirect but cocked up the vetting process (The Government have form on this) which cost us 2.5 million https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/road-and-rail-transport/10575081/2.5m-bill-for-driving-theory-test-fiasco.html In Oct 2016 its happened again for up to 4 years https://news.sky.com/story/taxpayer-pays-out-over-driving-test-fiasco-10240449 So that leaves as in 2020 and I can't find a plan anywhere. Personally I would write to Grant Shapps.
7. Indeed thank you Bender There must be a button for that somewhere.
8. Hi Stu, I love you and I'm plagiarising that thread ( which plagiarises the manual ) for posterity.
9. No, No, and no problem. There is a four digit code which the customer gives to the dealer to program in. This can be reset by the customer. This is the sort of masonic handshake with the ignition key. There is a dealer code that is needed to change things like the motion sensitivity. All of the settings are in the manual but it needs that code. I have a feeling that the dealer might have given me that for the first alarm (to shut me up) but I don't have it now.
10. 3 bikes, 3 S4Cs. No complaints so far apart from the manual ( I rewrote the programming part myself because their's is pants). I am sure that that my first bike used to bark when it activated. I didn't bother with the 2nd but I'm trying to make my current bike do the same as the first. However its in a programming menu that requires a "special code" known only to dealers. Does anyone know what it is?
11. Sorry. why? As long as the car's charging system is working properly it would be running at 14.7 volts. Same as a bike. It depends how long your ride is and how flat you battery was. If you can charge at 6A for 2 hours you will fully charge a 12AH battery. Obviously at tickover you might struggle .... and get bored.
12. Yeah. I think it sells testosterone biscuits or something. Anyway, I've just finished my coffee and sourdough chocolate muffin, so since there is nothing intelligent happening on this forum, I'm off to do something interesting instead.
13. I will leave this link here. It currently says that tests are suspended. Perhaps someone could make a separate post when it unlocks. https://www.gov.uk/book-theory-test
14. This looks like one of those antii-EU shock pieces that circulated before brexit. from the Vehicle Certification Agency web site:- "The European Community noise limits applicable to new motorcycles first used from 1 April 1991 are: Motorcycle Category by cm3Limits in dB(A Up to and including 80cc 77db Between 80 and 175cc (incl.) 79 db Above 175cc 82db " As far back as 1970 the limit for ANY motor vehicle is 91db In effect; 95db is LOUD There may be other regulations but I don't have all day. However:- The Kawi site says that it meets the spec. If you stick a pipe on it and decide to go through someone's beauty spot at full bore ...... Motorcyclists have been giving themselves a bad rep ....forever. One of the ways they have done that is to consistently fitting loud pipes for no particular purpose than to be loud. It helps their ego. Now the public has come to expect all bikes to be annoying. Most people drive cars and therefore expect most cars to be .... normal (or nominal?). Only some arrogant drivers have loud cars. I doesn't matter if you are a really nice guy with a bike within nominal specs. You are on the radar now. This is how bigotry works.
15. I have an ER6. It leaked oil onto my boot. The examiner noticed it on my Mod1. Also the throttle was poorly adjusted and the grip had worked loose. They retired it soon after.
16. yeah. its interesting in that it probably answers the "AA vs AC" question ..... ish. Its probably right, but no one can link to source data.
17. Don't mention it. I use chocolate digestives from:- https://www.simmonsbakers.com There. Done now. Its an old thread anyway.
18. 1/ the abilaty too spel@ nite, 2/ Replace a VFR R/R before it goes pop and takes out the loom and the battery, and leaves me stranded in whichever exotic location I would rather be than here! What makes the FH012AA better than the FH020AA?
19. I'm going to start a biscuit business.
20. What is the difference between FH020CA and FH020AA? I can't find a spec anywhere.
21. Yeah I have ridden to interviews a couple of times mostly to be able the answer the question; "can you manage the commute?" However I didn't get those jobs. I can pack a suit jacket onto a top box but its a faf. Does anyone else do this?
22. Which do you use for navigation, (i.e. visible)?
23. . So do mine. Didn't work. After 2 flat batteries I wired then to a relay. To the OP, its not the battery that makes the power its the alternator. Generally you are fine.
24. Hmmmmm you Do realise that this thread is a year old? The course was run by the (collapsed) CSS). I was just a cornering course and they ran it on the skid pan. I rode less than 20 miles. I since sold he bike an bought a VFR. Definitely less forgiving on corners!
