1. There are also a lot of apps available that has the theory test questions on them. I had used Theory Test Genie that is available on iPhone, it's free and I just took the mock tests to practice the questions on it. In terms of Hazard Perception, all I did was try the 3 videos on this website:

    https://www.safedrivingforlife.info/practice-hazard-perception-test

It shows you where you clicked to give an idea of if you got the hazard right which was good. :)

  2. Hello and welcome, I agree with skyrider on getting a more reputable brand bike, for resale value alone it's a good investment to get one in the long run. Unless you plan to ride the bike to it's demise, then that's a different story. 8-)

  3. I did my DAS recently and what I was taught was:

    Turning:

When turning left = Left lifesaver

When turning left = Right lifesaver

    Traffic lights:

Going ahead = both IF stopped for a 'significant' amount of time (use your judgement, treat as moving off from parked). If roll through or stop for a few seconds then mirrors only.

    Exiting roundabouts:

    Single lane = left lifesaver

    Dual lane = right lifesaver

    Changing lanes = appropriate shoulder

    Moving out around obstacles:

    right out - left in

The rest of the time its just mirror obs making sure you actually turn your head so the examiner knows you are doing it, you don't need to be looking over your shoulder constantly as 90% of danger will come from in front of you.

I'm taking this off xMachina post on another posting but the information is clear and that's what I was taught to in my DAS too. :thumb:

  4. I rarely watch TV and adverts annoy me but from what I recall of them they always feature young, slim, healthy, attractive people.

Whereas, present company excepted of course, most bikers tend to be old, rotund and scary. Not sure TV adverts would work to sell motorbikes.

You're going to have to show us a photo of you to prove this!

Also you need to hold today's paper too!

  5. I got them on my bike i use them at night and got to say since i put them on at night in have had no close calls from cagers ..

    So up yours chavy ...

Also I have them on purple white i dont use the blue . Cops ... red brake light ... green doctor ....

I got stopped (sort off a i was all ready stopped ) and the copper asked if I had blue i said yes and I dont use it .. not even the multi colour change he said ok and drove off .

So they cant stop you using them AGAIN If you use the 3 i said NOT to you be all right ..

As there is NO law on other colours or lighting ..

I use them to be seen ..

    Lets see some photos!

  6. I can't believe that is a FAIL. If I had to hazard a guess, I would imagine it's because speed cameras can't catch you when you're speeding away at high speeds!

not having a number plate light on a car is a fail .

yet on a motorbike it's not ( or didn't use to be )

YET ... it is a offence that police can issue a ticket against

Really? Does not make sense as on a bike the reg plate is only visible in the back and the only way the Police will know who you are is on that plate? Mandatory for car and not bike sounds illogical! Like who is making up these laws.

  7. My thoughts goes out to you Troy. You did a very brave thing and speaking about it is just your form of dealing with that event.

As others have said before me, I wish you all the best in your recovery. Just remember you being there and trying to help the guy before the emergency services arrived would have meant more than anything to the guy's family, I'm sure they would be eternally grateful to you for that; It's certainly what we here all hope if we were ever in that man's position to have someone there to help us.

  8. I take it you've not heard of Henry Fonda , the father, and Bridget Fonda the daughter either then .

I have not, @fastbob. I’ve also never seen that movie either @JRH.

Have you seen The Grapes of Wrath or Jackie Brown ? Single White Female perhaps ?

Oh my, I have seen Bridget Fonda before, I just didn't know who she was. I haven't seen The Grapes of Wrath though.

  9. RIP .

His sister was a looker ...

I was going to say that woman looks like Jane Fonda but younger and then I realised she is. I didn't realise they were related as I didn't want to assume just cause they share the same surname that they are... but seems they are!

  11. I seem to remember that for some time during the 1990s the CBT was valid for 2 years and when it expired could not be renewed for 12 months. So, if you didn't pass the test in two years you lost all entitlement for a year. A lot of people were caught out by this rule. They had bought a 125 and couldn't ride it. Or they happened to fail the test and had to wait a year until they could do another CBT and start again.

Well that's stupid! Can't believe folk had to wait 1 year before taking the CBT again. I would imagine the panic bookings folk had to do as their CBT was due to expire. How long did that rule last?

From inception 1990 till (I think) 1st Jan 1997 when we came into line with the rest of the EU. The stupid 2 years on, 1 year off, rule was a dept of transport "bright idea". in 1997 the biggest change.. And quite positive was the arrival of the DAS. Which meant people could bypass 125s almost entirely if they wanted.

7 years is still a pretty long time for someone if they had to follow that program, it essentially meant they only rode for 5 of those years and every time they start again, they probably had to literally start again as they would have forgotten some of the things they got good at first time round. What a stupid system.
