1. Right then. Drain the old fuel and examine inside of tank for corrosion ( no point cleaning it if its fooked). Get the plastics off and wrap them up with old blanket or whatever ( I love decorators dustsheets) . Parrafin and brushes out because as you clean you see things. Will your friend be able to give you any history?. Oh and go careful with that screen it may well be quite brittle if stored outside through the winter. Oh last point the dog is the wrong breed to give you a proper "Lab" report Cheers Ian
2. It is the engine turning over but hopefully thats quite hard to do as you should be resisted by the compression in the engine. Can you see oil in the site glass ? Cheers Ian
3. Looks good to me. I hope you enjoy cleaning polishing and possibly painting? Looks like a bit of attention round that front headstock area. Looking forward to hearing how the electrics are when you get the key. Buy some parrafin and get scrubbing ( personally I wouldnt go near it with water to be honest) . Well done you. Cheers Ian
4. Whilst I fully agree with what you say here 1st to 2nd can be abit of a jump so I always use clutch 1st to 2nd then clutchless 2nd-6th for me it just smooths out the big jump Totally agree with Richzx6r and I would add even under high stresses on drag strips most people clutch between first and second then clutchless all the way up it saves dropping into neutral and revving the tits off it. Bad for engine and image imho. Cheers Ian
5. Encouraging start air still in tyres. Was it on the paddock stand when you got there? Cheers Ian
6. Maybe her ex-hubby will be in and kindly disposed to our quest ! (I know F.all chance lol). Should say YOUR ! quest. If things get violent I am miles away and happy to keep it that way. Oh and for the record that was a genuine typo ! Lol Cheers Ian
7. Its the keys to get in her house shes not there atm. Ah I see the problem ! Have you considered breaking and entering? Maybe her ex-hubby will be in and kindly disposed to our quest ! (I know F.all chance lol). Still wish you best of luck. Cheers Ian
8. Wow didn't know eggs could do that ! If I was an angel and pure in thought and deed I would start a revenge thread ! As I am not I will leave it to others to put their snouts above the parapet ! Cheers Ian
9. Lol You are a wind up merchant! gymwitch will be going round now and peering over the fence! Cheers Ian
10. That’s why specific caliper paint is preferable, it’s brake fluid resistant. I didn't know that either thought it was brake dust as well, Mind you I would still try and avoid getting fluid on the calipers as it hampers checking for leaks ( they frighten the bejesus out of me). Cheers Ian
11. You don't need to go crazy with it i.e. attacking it with sandpaper - you might be able to rub the paint off now before it dries with a bit of thinners if you have any. Good point! I am sure we have all seen what brake fluid can do when used as paint stripper. I had a mate who had to drive about with cnut on his bonnet when his wife found out about his girlfriend lol. Cheers Ian
12. You will be fine I am sure. You have the sense to ask first and learn when you get it wrong. I wish I had been able to learn that lesson when I was younger lol. At 20 I knew it all ha ha. Cheers Ian Oh still learning by the way!
13. Keys aren't the first priority really. There are a lot of things to check before you push that button and many straightforward restorations have been complicated by trying to start too early! Understandable but good practice to curb your impatience lol. Good luck tomorrow
14. You had it there yourself. Those seals rely on the mating faces fitting nice 8tight and level to do the sealing. The paint potentially makes this not possible. Nice flat surfaces to gently rub down and clean ready for more service. Cheers Ian
15. Consider the pressure fluid is under as it acts on the rear of those pistons that you now know how hard they are to move. Now think about those mating surfaces and where the fluid will go. I am not taking the P just enjoying your learning curve and we will get there I assure you. Cheers Ian
16. For what it's worth the same applies to gen1 Hayabusa! Faìling battery can cause carnage. Cheers Ian
17. I do get you actually. I have previous with big Kawasaki Eddie Lawson lookalikes lol. The photos in the garage might prove it lol. Actually the Z100j was my first proper restoration 32years ago!!fook where did the time go? Cheers Ian
18. Yes young lady gymwitch it does mean the bench is empty again pmsl. Cheers Ian
19. Adjusted ride height by flipping the chain adjusters and adjusted shock lengths as much as I dare and she seems back to normal. Also got rid of the standard radiator shrouds. Right it must be beer O'clock. Cheers Ian
20. Welcome aboard. We love conundrums on here and some of the responses may even be helpful! (Not guaranteed ). Cheers Ian
21. I also think TimR is onto something and I would think once fixed there would need to be a reset. I presume there is some kind of sensor in the exhaust that is sensitive to the mixture ? Cheers Ian
22. I have used normal satin black spray on calipers multiple times and even gold spray paint on some. As Richzx6r rightly says there is a small amount of residual heat transfer but not enough to worry about. Cheers Ian
23. That first picture looked bad enough to attack it carefully with a wire brush on a drill then apply satin black as a short term repair till you can do them properly. Cheers Ian
24. For the record it is Friday and your countdown gets worse from here on in lol ! Cheers Ian
