  1. Changing the belt on the Harley is a bit longer than 15 mins to do more like an hour or 2 but is meant to last 50,000miles or more and belt cost is about £125 on average
  2. wasnt Nippon Denso was it as thats early jap electronic ignition system replacing the points
  3. If you have still got the rubber brake lines on it check they are not breaking down and bulging anywhere best to change to braided
  4. As Stu says you can ride it home and back to mot place but it is not roadworthy to run round on over Easter and will show up on anpr as not having mot due to mot tester recording the fail at the time of testing
  5. i would worry about oil light flickering and get that one sorted first it will either be a bad connection at the switch itself not sure where it will be located on your bike but often underneath engine or behind crankcase under carb so either switch is shot loose connection or you have problem with oil pressure in the engine so dont go revving it to much untill you know for sure what the problem is
  6. if you look at the rubbers where they go into the airbox there is a groove in the rubber seal so one side of it needs to go inside the airbox often needs blunt tool of some kind to help it along to make sure it goes in correctly
  7. the bike should have a centre stand on it thats all you need to check chain tension like start by checking measurement from pivot bolt to wheel spindle both sides then if its out loosen rear wheel spindle slightly and loosen the chain adjusters a little you will then be able to gently tap or puah wheel about untill A.the measurement is correct and the same both sides and B. chain tension is correct then tighten everything back up
  8. if you cant check it from the markers on the swinging arm then measure from the swinging arm pivot bolt to centre of rear wheel bolt and make sure both sides measure the same with the chain at the correct tension, you might have to loosen off the adjusters slightly and move wheel forwards or backwards a bit to get measurement the same with corect chain adjustment
  9. he isnt going mountaineering on it stu lol altho he might be i guess
  10. looks like it has smashed the ignition key out of it as well which will need replacing with new switch
  11. To check if pump us running pull fuel line off carb and into a can turn ign on and see if it pumps as it's not continuously running when onto carbs
  12. its not very often carbs go out of balance to be fair and when servicing if standard filters are refitted then the carbs shouldnt need touching if any thing i would look into k&n replacement filter that goes into airbox like a standard one does and see if that improves anything then once oil and filter and plugs are changed getting carbs balanced should only cost you £30-£40 depending on where you go
  13. chances are it will mess up the mxtures on the carbs and they would need resetting more hassl than its worth to be honest
  14. but how many times did it nearly turn you to drink instead but i have chuckled my way through most of your posts and always end up with a smile on my face
  15. silly as it sounds have a look in charity shops and pick up a cheap walking stick that will help quite a bit
  16. judging by the reports this afternoon james may and richard hammonds contracts both expire the end of march as well so i guess the bbc will be looking for 3 new presenters for top gear 2016
  17. carb will only need draining if you are planning on stripping it down and to be fair once you remove it from the engine just tipping it upside down will drain it anyway, you only need to drain eninge oil if you are going to be doing any work on it where you have to remove casings if not then no need to drain it
  18. now this may sound silly but the chain is at the correct adjustment isnt it?and the front sprocket is in good condition?as it could be a slim (very slim to be honest) chance of chain jumping teeth on sprocket it has been known before.i will send you a pm with my number on it i am home 24/7 most of the time so i could check it over any time convieneint for you
  19. have you lubricated the cable down the length of it to make sure its not sticking somewhere?im always willing to check it over for you if you fancied a ride over to chatteris on a saturday just to check cable adjustment and free movement
  20. are you leaving the plates to soak in oil for a while preferably overnight before fitting them?and what oil are you using ?
  21. will be one less cage out there on the roads
  22. you can check the head bearings by putting bike on centre stand and getting someone to lean on the back of the bike to lift the front wheel off the floor then get hold of the forks down near the wheel and see if you have got any backwards and forwards movement and also while the front wheel is up in the air grab hold of it at the top and bottom and see if you can rock it side to side which will indicate wheel bearing problems
  23. if its not on front wheel then it is the electronic pick up type could be anything froma blown fuse to the sensor packing up
  24. speedo drive wil either be a cable from front wheel or from a unit bolted to front sprocket cover so just look at sprocket case on engine if nothing bolted to it normally with 2 ten mm headed bolts then go have a look at front wheel and you will see a cable coming down to a unit between fork and wheel on one side sounds like the cable has snapped
  25. easy way to check is push small piece of hose into drain hole in top of tank and blow down it see if you get bubbles appearing in fuel inside tank and you will hear it as well if thats the case
