Just missed out on my dream bike, zxr750, for an absolute steal... be a while before another one pops up in my budget
-
I always give the car 2 minutes before setting off while I sort out the radio, plug phone in etc. I run the bike engine in the garage on half choke until it smooths out and the revs pick up, some days that’s 30 seconds, other days it takes 2 minutes. this morning I pushed it to the front of the house then put my tank bag on and started it while I put my gloves on so it only had 30 seconds idling before moving away and it was very hesitant to accelerate until I was about 2 minutes from home so for my bike it definitely seems to be necessary to warm it up

Fitted last night, ran on the centre stand to test function then took it out today, it all seems okay so hopefully I’ve been lucky!
-
Makes sense, so with them sitting in oil in the sump/crankcase all will be okay?
-
No? I’d never heard that before?

New clutch fitted! after getting told the old hub was fine I then snapped one of the castings off for the spring bolts by standing on it managed to find one on eBay for £10 in better condition than mine though! New EBC friction plates and genuine Suzuki springs and steel plates sourced for £130 and fitted this evening. Changed the oil and filter just as a precaution and got the cable adjusted much easier than previous times. take care everyone

Hi James, yeah that’s the bits we’re talking about. the photos actually make them look a lot more pronounced than they are. I pulled the basket out yesterday and took it with me when I went to order my clutch plates from M+S in Newcastle for a professional opinion and their fitter said it would be okay and to just carefully file the little raised edges off the external face of the hub. if I could find a new one I would have replaced the lot but I’ve only been able to find second hand so I’ll probably end up with something not much better than this

I’ve only had the bike 4 months and it’s got a mismatched engine (‘99 bike, ‘88-‘91 engine) so god knows what it’s been through in the past 22 years...

Hi all, I’ve been suffering with a slipping clutch so tonight I’ve pulled the plates out to measure them and discovered this wear to the clutch hub? If that’s the wrong term then please correct me! is this acceptable or does it also require replacement? Also upon measuring the friction plates they are apparently the same thickness as new plates but to me they look heavily worn? a second opinion is appreciated as trains don’t have clutches so I have limited experience of this. I imagine that the raised “pads” should be much more prominent than this? Thanks

If it’s the cams striking something and making that noise I’d imagine it’ll be obvious, look for scoring or grooves but as I’ve said, to make that much noise that quickly if it is metal on metal it should stand out like a sore thumb

I love that colour I had a kiddies electric bike in the old green and purple colour scheme and I’ve been waiting for my chance to buy a real one ever since!
-
My dream bike, absolutely love the look of the zxr750 I’d also take at zx7r in the right colour scheme

Meant to be a link to Facebook but it didn’t work

Just spotted this local to me, might be a nice project for someone?

In times like this it’s sometimes better to just get things stripped down and have a look and see what the problem is.
-
Yeah they arrived, they’re okay and very comfy but they’re also quite baggy compared to what I imagined so I’d go for a size smaller than usual if I was buying again

I always have my dad on anyway as it’s handy having 2 drivers on everything, only ever makes about £100 difference to be honest. it was just the fact that overnight it went up 4 times

24 year old and looking at a 2020 Mercedes c220, not especially young or especially crazy car. I think the £1300 is okay ish as I’ve got no no claims to use as it it’s on my other car at the moment. I just can’t get my head around the quadrupling in price overnight with no changes for the cheapest policy (Debenhams)

I’m looking at getting a second car to take the strain off my ageing land rover and was looking at quotes for insurance last night once I’d found a car and they coming in at £740, this morning when I double checked the cheapest I could get was £1300 and the company that quoted me £740 was suddenly quoting £3700!! I swear they just make it up as they go

Took the bike to work again today, going to grab some challenge photos on the way home then give it a wash, it’s in a right old state at the moment!

Me and my dad went for a ride to Alston to drop some paperwork off at a farm, the first time I’ve had a fully functioning bike other than commuting and what a difference it made! plus the extra confidence of a few hundred miles under my belt now to take the bike up to 10-11k rpm and it’s a different machine! then we swapped bikes for the way home and dads tiger 1050 is just so effortless to make move and now I need to change bikes haha!

Morning all, I’ve just ordered some bull-it denim jeans for the commute to work and I’m looking for jacket recommendations to go with them, something that looks more like a jacket rather than a bike jacket but obviously still has some armour and offers protection in an off is such a thing exists? I’m not too bothered about leather vs textile other than avoiding denim again as I can’t pull off double denim haha

I took a load of stuff to the tip in my defender only to be told by the lad on the gate I needed a permit as it was a van, a very heated argument arise with me telling them it wasn’t a van, it’s on car insurance, personal use, no business use etc. But they weren’t having it at all. About 10 minutes in an identical defender drove out of the tip so I asked if he needed a permit, there response was no, he has windows in the back. It was one of these tiny blind spot windows on 1 side of the car. I was less than impressed! no wonder fly tipping is such an issue.

Do you stop if you see a biker at the side of the road?
Keeper96 replied to Throttled's topic in Motorbike Chat
I’ve never experienced it with the bike but Land Rover owners tend to stop and help out, mainly defenders but I’ve seen the odd discovery stop as well. once it was a godsend, a UJ collapsed in my prop shaft and to keep driving I had to remove the shaft but needed 2 14mm spanner’s, I had 1 spanner and a socket but the socket just would not fit in the gap, luckily another defender pulled over and had a toolkit so all was well!
