  1. Hartz mountains is a nice area with some lovely towns. I wasn't there on the bike though. Stayed in Goslar which is very picturesque with lots of good restaurants.

    ETIAS

Official website https://etias.com/ Supposedly 2024 but who knows - it has been postponed several times already.
  3. Texas were pretty good - at least the hour I watched on iPlayer
  4. Then the bike wouldn't be insured for theft until he changed it over on Monday
  5. I was stunned when my wife picked up her new car recently. I decided I ought to check the tyre pressures when cold next day. They were all correct!
  6. In the "old days" it was suggested you removed your mirrors, which I did and passed no problem. 1977 though!
  7. My insurance company wanted to know everything that wasn't factory fitted. I told them everything and there was no change in the insurance cost.
  8. Silicone sealant probably allows too much movement. There is proper glue for sticking components onto PCBs, I probably have some somewhere. It will probably have set solid by now.
  9. Best to use the correct capacitor- the one that fell off is for through-hole mounting not surface mount. If I was closer I would happily do it for free - I still have all the tools and lots of parts from when I did such work.
  10. I had suggested figures of several thousand a month a short while ago. I declined the suggested changes!
  11. Scary insurance nowadays. When I started riding a standard moped policy was £5 fully comp and my first motorbike insurance was £28 as I recall. Also, back then it was based on cc only so 100cc was half the price of a 125cc. How times have changed.
  12. I think £30 is the going rate for Pinlock inserts.
  13. Difficult to be certain from the description but I don't tend to use the horn for wildlife and would always brake to avoid a collision rather than accelerate. At least then if a collision occurs it will be a lower speed one. I would let the bike electronics try to keep the bike stable/upright.
  14. The GS is also as heavy as the RT and taller. For some reason I didn't find the GS as comfy as the R/RS/RT and neither did my pillion. I don't know why, but it stopped me buying one. I think the quick shifter on BMW four cylinder bikes are smoother, eg the S1000XR. The boxers always seem clunky going up gears.
  15. I agree with most of the review. I don't agree with crash bars but that is personal choice. If I crash I won't be worrying about the cyclinders! A low speed drop will cost you around £200 for a new cylinder head cover, fitted - less than the cost of crash bars. With a high speed crash there will be considerable damage to most motorbikes. The R1250RS can be ordered with tubular bars which raise them a little. My wife found both the R1200R and R1250RS more comfy on the back than the R1250RT. The main problem she has is to do with knee angle rather than the seat comfort. Either a peg lowering kit or airhawk style seat cover seem to alter the knee angle enough to fix the problem. It is not obvious but the screen has two sets of mounting holes so you can raise it a couple of inches for tall riders (and you still have two positions when riding). Quick shifters on all the boxers seem jerky when shifting up (but better if you are really reving it) but are great on the way down heading into corners. I don't tour so cannot comment on multi-day long rides but if I did, I would probably pick an RT. The panniers are bigger and you can get a huge top box. The only proviso would be that if you are going somewhere hot you need some good gear to keep cool. With the sports screen on the RT at its lowest setting you get a decent amount of air to the head but nowhere else so it gets hot. With the R or RS you don't have this problem. The problem with the R is wind pressure at speed with no screen or buffeting with the sport screen at speed. This is based on the R1200R though - the 1250 has a different screen so may be better (or worse). The RT has the electric screen whcih is great and never has any turbulence at any position.
  16. Thanks, both of those are fine.
  17. I cannot see your post which I assume is black text on a black background which is a shame as I was interested. After 3 years with the R1200R and 2 with an R1250RT I have just ordered an R1250RS.
  18. I must admit I read Pickles every day.
  19. You could always make your own.
  20. I've done that in the past. Also, when I was a kid, doing some soldering on the dining table, my father came in and threw his nylon coat over one of the dining chairs - the one I had hung the soldering iron on! He was not pleased.
  21. NCB doesn't usually go back to zero in the event of an accident. You usually lose a few years such 2 or 3.
  22. The problem I foresee is they will be sending alerts everytime it is a bit windy/rainy/snowy/icy rather than anything really important worthy of action.
  23. Our brains are far better at processing the information. One of the early deaths from a Tesla was when it didn't notice a truck side on. Radar would have helped and a brain without radar would have noticed it.
  24. I may be wrong but I don't think speed limits apply for pushbikes in the UK as it is not a motorised vehicle. Other countries e.g. Germany are different.
