  1. I would tell them. In my experience it makes no difference to the insurance cost but they seem interested in the cost of the modifications
  2. I have summer and winter Falco boots which are great for walking around in as well as riding. https://giannifalco.com/en/14/products/30/urban-ride
  3. I prefer the other way round
  4. Every year, roughly. Same for the pinlock
  5. DVLA don't seem too slow at staight renewals - applied online for mine on Wednesday and received it in the post today!
  6. Depends on the battery type and manufacturer. AGM batteries can be well over 13V when fully charged.
  7. 13V plus doesn't sound high. My bike is currently at 13.1V and hasn't been ridden for 6 days.
  8. I usually touch my brakes even when I don't need to as a warning to following vehicles that I am slowing down
  9. Most of the audiologists in opticians will do a free consultation in the hope of selling you some very expensive hearing aids
  10. Some hearing aids can be programmed to help mask tinnitus. Go see an audiologist.
  11. Does it have drilled discs? They can make buzzing noises
  12. It could be considered to be a custom built motorbike maybe. Not sure if it helps much. https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-approval/motorcycle-single-vehicle-approval
  13. Hopefully after 12 years, the original poster has made their decision!
  14. You could consider the R1200R/R1250R. Comfy, good 2 up but obviously not very good weather protection. Around 40kg lighter than the RT depending on version and the weight is lower down
  15. I am not sure why you want to repeatedly take them off. My priority was comfortable for walking in when I stop. While I have some Daytona ones for wet winter riding, my preferred ones are Falco short boots. I have a winter pair and summer pair. They are reinforced in various places with D3O over the ankle. They are laced but you leave the laces done up and unzip them once you have laced them to your liking. The winter ones are waterproof but not the summer ones.
  16. I am not sure if the diameter would be the same, but you can get bar end plugs for mountain bikes. Might be too small a diameter though.
  17. I don't remember if that is what I told my wife to do, but that is how she rides pillion and has done for over 40 years, since we were at school
  18. I wouldn't mind a DCT bike but the choice is very limited. I think you are better off giving yourself complete freedom of choice.
  19. I don't know the answer but the padding in my wife's helmet started to fall apart after 30 years so she had to buy a new one. It had been sitting in a cupboard for ages, so not affected by UV light. I only change mine when there is a good reason. My latest change was to get a flip-front, not due to the old one being 15 years old.
  20. One of the problems is knowing the local rules. Where I live you can park in a car pay-and-display spot without paying. Ride 30 miles and you can't - you need to find specific, free motorcycle parking or streets where it is free to cars
  21. Not unusual to have a gear change patch on both boots - so they don't look "odd". I have a couple of pairs of Falco short boots and they have gearchange pads on both feet.
  22. That's probably true, and probably simply radiated heat from the engine. I had a Honda Prelude many years ago and in winter if I didn't reach 50mph it wouldn't provide enough heat to warm the interior. I guess the water thermostat stayed shut. My wife's Fiesta turbo is the opposite - after a few miles at slow speed it is belting heat out into the cabin.
  23. That was before they discovered electricity. The fan was running continuously even in the middle of winter.

    Touring again

I had a Yaris hybrid for hire on holiday. It was not good- really struggled up the motorway hills in southern Spain.

    Touring again

I saw a statistic once that a surprising number of people buy cars without a test drive. 60% I think it was.
