  1. Visor misting up and the time it takes to get ready/get finished from a ride.
  2. If I use a high pressure washer at a garage, I just stand back from the bike so it does not get blasted. Never had any issues.
  3. US plates, especially the ones professing love for guns made me smile, but in an ironic way. I was amazed to see the personalised reg of JAB 1 1N on a Range Rover.
  4. I got to I could use the D rings with gloves on.
  5. This document is all about road signs and markings and the keep left/right arrow is in Section 4, Compulsory and Prohibited Movements. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/782724/traffic-signs-manual-chapter-03.pdf "4.7.1. The “keep left” (or “keep right”) sign to diagram 610 (S3‑2‑3, see Figure 4‑25) may be erected without an order. It is used at traffic islands, refuges..." That sign is the same (white arrow on a blue back ground) as arrows which indicate one way streets and round a bouts and no one would consider going the way opposite to what the arrows indicated there. The keep left/right arrow is the same and to not comply with it is an offence here, Sec 36 RTA 1988; http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/52/section/36 "36 Drivers to comply with traffic signs. (1)Where a traffic sign, being a sign— (a)of the prescribed size, colour and type, or (b)of another character authorised by the [F2relevant authority] under the provisions in that behalf of the M1Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, has been lawfully placed on or near a road, a person driving or propelling a vehicle who fails to comply with the indication given by the sign is guilty of an offence."
  6. All of the covers I have owned (Aldi's own, Oxford expensive & cheap one, 2 x M&B Bike magazine award winner and now covers marked either Black or Ghost Bikes) have lasted 12-18 months and have perished due to the sun. I can see the top turning grey as the fabric degrades and then it splits. Have you tested your covers in the sun to see how long they last? I have also found that covers that are tightly elasticated and are made from thicker fabric and with no top vent, trap moisture inside. I now buy the cheap Ghost Bike's cover because it lasts over a year, it has a top vent and the thinner fabric billows and lets more air in and around the bike, so it dries out quicker. Does your cover have a top vent? It does not appear to have one. This is the cover I have settled on, as one that does last over a year and it does not trap moisture; https://www.ghostbikes.com/5134-black-sonar-motorcycle-cover-large.html
  7. Having gone for a run where the gritters came out, I have been cleaning the chain that had rusted shockingly quickly in just a couple of days. Note to self - no matter how much you want to ride, don't go out when the gritters are out.
  8. Hole both Ds together between thumb and first finger. Feed the strap through the gap. Let go of both Ds and then swap hands and hold only the inner D with the thumb and first finger of your other hand. Feed the strap end through that D. Let go of the Ds and pull to tighten. With minimal practice, that can be done in about 2 seconds.
  9. Went for a ride. Summer gloves and heated grips at -5 = sore finger tips.
  10. There is not much to see with the wiring, the wires go from the control unit into a bundle of other wires that are all inside a sheath that disappears under the tank. I will run it again in the next few days and hope it is some moisture that has now gone. Now I have heated grips, I cannot imagine not having them.
  11. I don't know how long the grips have been on the bike, which is a 2012 and came with them when I got it in 2016. It does live outside and it could be damp.
  12. A Kawasaki KLE500, which I just checked and is still MOT'd and on the road. It will be 14 years old now.
  13. Bet you repairs come in just under what it would have been worth claiming off insurance. One thing about a hack is that it is more likely to be written off by insurance companies as not worth repairing. I had my winter hack insured 3rd party, fire and theft for that reason (till I found a fully comp quote that was only about £10 more and I switched then).
  14. I don't use the heated grips that often, but when I do, as soon as I start the bike I switch them (Oxford ones) on, scrolling through the heat settings to the warmest. But today, they refused to switch on and I had to ride off with cold grips. But, after 5 minutes, I tried again and there was some sign of them switching on, as the lowest setting light flickered. After another 5 minutes they worked fine and I was able to switch them on and could feel them warming up my hands. Is that delay the sign of a pending failure? I am thinking maybe it is a sign the bike battery is on its way out, as I do not ride anything like as much as I used to.
  15. For me earplugs are part of ATGATT. I also wear them to all the gigs I go to.
  16. So sorry this has happened.
  17. According to Money saving expert, 56% of appeals are successful and I have a chance because there was no signage to show that there was no parking at the place I parked, it was a first offence and I made an honest mistake.
  18. It is still like that.
  19. The photo they showed makes it look like the car is blocking pedestrians from crossing, but I have photos to show it is not. I will wait to see how the council responds and go from there.
  20. My point is, how was I supped to know that? Normally parking restrictions are signed in some way.
  21. Knox Cold Killers under any larger glove works well, as does any waterproof over glove.
  22. I rarely commute, but I do not put my bike away for the winter. A ride on a clear, dry winter's day, with my thermals and heated grips on, is a joy.
  23. During our annual visit to Yorkshire, I got a Penalty Charge Notice for parking on a raised area of road, which according to Scarborough Council is a crime under Sec 86 of the Traffic Management Act 2004 (which does not apply in Scotland). The raised area of road was marked with 20mph markings on the road and 20mph signs and was one of three where we were staying that was near to a primary school. I thought it was only to show where the 20mph zone started and ended, I did not know it was a no parking place. I have pointed out that section 243 of the Highway Code they quoted is about dropped kerbs and this was not a dropped kerb. I have pointed out that there was still space for pedestrians, prams and motobility scooters to get past the car. I have pointed out there was no white line to indicate no parking, which they suggest was there. I have pointed out that nearby were various signs and road markings to show no parking, so why was there nothing where I parked? I have pointed out that there was nothing to show I was in a "Special Parking Area". They want £35, or £70 if I pursue this further. Is this a serious thing that could get very expensive if I fight it? Or is it a bluff that carries little to weight? I am not a crusade to take on a council and rack up lots of bills to fight £35. But I don't want to pay for parking where there was nothing to show that I should not have parked there.
