  1. With all of the battery recharging, will this be more like Boreman's other trip videos, with less riding and more visiting the sights along the way?
  2. I took out an Amazon Prime subscription for the Grand Tour, Apple TV is cheaper, £4.99 a month, so may switch to that
  3. It does look like the bikes were dropped from having to do an emergency stop whilst cornering. Slow in, fast out and trail braking are riding techniques for the track that work on country roads where you should assume the road is not clear round that bend. At least everyone looks OK.
  4. Hope you are OK today, the rain round here, near Glasgow is biblical.
  5. Done, ordered the one.
  6. Your tent must be tiny, to get everything in that tail bag!
  7. Yesterday I rode it, in very heavy rain, first time I have been out in such bad weather for a long time. It was a test of how waterproof is my kit, which is all getting on and is 5 to 10 years old. The answer is it was all fine and I stayed dry. Today, I washed it.
  8. I learned basic care and maintenance off you tube videos. There are hundreds of videos showing you the main tasks that will keep your bike in good condition, from how to wash it, treating rust, adjusting the chain, cleaning the brakes, idle speed. Look up Tamsen Cooper for general maintenance and the Car Cleaning Guru, who also does motorbikes.
  9. Which is why, as the 4th owner of my 125, I ended getting only £200 less as a trade in, than when I bought it. It had been a bit neglected and I got it properly serviced and did a lot of cosmetic work so it was rust free. It had 4000 miles on the clock, so the previous owners had each done just over 1000 miles. I doubled that to 8000 miles. So, it goes to show how condition is important.
  10. Fitted brake pads all round, as the MOT had an advisory on wear. Thankfully no seized bolts this time, so got it all done easily.
  11. I wore one of my buffs to the hospital today for a routine appointment. They were quite happy with that as a face covering. So if TMBF were to do one I would definitely take one and pay in advance if that helps.
  12. My abilities were greater than the bikes with the 125cc 10hp and the 500cc 47hp. It was about the same with the 650 75hp bike. The bike's ability is greater than mine with the 1000cc 120hp. I know that because I would regularly wring every ounce of power out of the 125 and 500cc bikes. Occasionally I would max out the 650cc for overtaking and acceleration. The only time I max out the 1000cc is a bit of fun when accelerating on the nearby motorway when no one else is about. The rest of the time I am in the low to mid rev ranges and still it has ample power. So, I need about 75hp. (But it is more fun to have 120hp!)
  13. Most bikes can get away from the lights quicker than most cars. Anything over 80mph (overall) is too risky for speeding penalties. Hence, I look for mid range grunt. Being able to overtake in a couple of seconds is where real world riding is at.
  14. I agree that the age and mileage difference are too small a difference, to make a difference.
  15. Took it to the dealers for brake pads, which I could do myself but for a seized bolt. They had forgotten to order them, but made up for it by sorting the caliper, so I can now fit them myself. New pads on order, so another excuse to take the bike out and get them.
  16. This may answer your question. If something is a pain to deliver, pretend it is undeliverable and send it to auction; https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8253825/Hermes-couriers-caught-sending-packages-straight-auction-houses-three-four-times-week.html The comedian Joe Lycette did an investigation into Hermes. It was blatant how items that could be delivered were beign sent to auction.
  17. I park my bike on the path to the front door, which we widened and put in a ground anchor. It would be perfect for a wall charger and I expect to change to electric bike, though not for at least another decade.
  18. I have been told that for best results, use a red primer as undercoat.
  19. Cheap kit, around £50-£100 per item is unlikely to be waterproof in sustained bad weather and expect it to protect you once if you come off. Decent kit, around £200-£500 per item (gloves a bit cheaper), is likely be waterproof (ie Gortex) and will likely survive coming off so it can still be used. I have £75 gloves, £500 jacket, £200 trousers, £200 boots, £200 helmet and have had the same stuff for a decade (helmet and boots changed due to smell) and survived a 30mph off. My first £50-£100 lasted about a year.
  20. Good on them if they rode that from Scotland to Devon! When men were men and women were tough. My parents are English and met at Sheffield University. I checked and now it is a 278 mile trip that would take around 5 hours. What I cannot get over is mother not bothering with a helmet! But apparently cruising speed was 40mph.
  21. What on earth is that? I believe its a James Cadet ! It is quite possible I am wrong lol. Cheers Ian It is a BSA Bantam 125cc, in the form that was built for the post office, because my father wanted the leg protectors and panniers. There is one in post office colours in the Riverside Transport Museum in Glasgow.
  22. Not me, my parents, on their way to Devon. Dad wore the helmet, mother the gloves. It is about 1962.
  23. Glove sizing is all over the place. IME even two gloves from the same maker, of supposedly the same size can be slightly, but noticeably different. I would try again at J&S and literally try on every single glove.
  24. Totally the riders fault. He was failing to keep proper observations and then locked up the rear wheel so he lost control. He should have at least been able to also stop, or at worst file past the stationary bike. The bike in front came easily to a halt.
  25. Convenient excuse. I’ll have to get a cat. I see some sort of auto correct has obscured my expletive directed towards said cat. In case you are not sure, the cat's parents never married.
