  1. Scotland has halved the limit and one pint would mean waiting a few hours before driving so as to be sure.
  2. There is no definitive answer as alcohol levels vary with all sorts of factors. The issue is more how long after a drink as opposed to how much drink have you had, before you drive?
  3. The GoPro type square cameras do not look like a good idea to fit on a helmet due to drag at speed. I see many seem to be targetted at cyclists, where drag is maybe not so much of an issue. The smaller cigar shaped cameras look fine, similar to wearing an intercom, which I do and do not notice it even on long journeys.
  4. I was thinking that was just the kind of repair Timpsons would do.
  5. I have varied my technique, depending on what bike I am riding. My present bike can be ridden very slowly feet on pegs. Other bikes were less stable and I would walk with the bike.
  6. I failed all my practices and caught that last cone, then a miracle and was clear during the test.
  7. x2, that is exactly what I have.
  8. Don't fart.
  9. Same here and I got the denim jacket. On hot days I am way more comfortable than in textiles. I did have to add stitching to the knee pad holder, as the gap was so wide the knee protection could slide out.
  10. I would like a shot on a Gold Wing, the latest one looks great;
  11. I was 2 years earning c£40k a year doing office work when I was put onto restricted duties. I often came into work and had no work to do. I would chat, have coffee, was well know for taking an 11am nap and after an early lunch I would just go home. My crime was allegedly assaulting a prison in a cell. That the prisoner was trying to kill himself and all I did was push him off balance so he let go of the shirt he had round his neck, was ignored. I was subsequently found not guilty, with the Sheriff scathing of the lack of credibility of witnesses who spoke against me. I then campaigned to have all police officers and custody staff in Scotland trained in how to safely and effectively intervene and stop an active suicide attempt. As a result of that, Police Scotland now includes prevention techniques in it Officer Safety Training programme. The public needs to know more about just how bad the police can be when investigating themselves.
  12. Explain to your wife that 99% of pillions can only see to the side of the rider. Very few are so tall that they can see over the top. If that does happen, I suspect balance would become an issue. Point out people in the back seat of cars have a restricted view forwards.
  13. Do the free tester most places offer and see what you think. I switched during my lessons from one school to another because of not getting on with instructors. I did my lessons in 2011, so no point in saying which school as chances are the instructors are different now.
  14. To get rid of similar, I used an old flat headed screwdriver and a cloth. I patiently and gently scraped off most of the crud by digging it out with the screwdriver and then wiping the screwdriver on the cloth. Once the worst was gone, I used WD40 to finish it off as the power of the spray helps to shift what is left and the straw on the nozzle means you can get into the smallest of gaps. Put cardboard or similar under the bike to catch what drips/falls off.
  15. The low sun can reduce visibility and be blinding at that time of day. I used to commute and got a helmet with a flip down sun visor for that reason.
  16. I have never seen any evidence, either way, as to the effectiveness of Datatag. In all my years in the police, I never heard of it being used to recover a stolen vehicle. I do have it though, since it helps with insurance.
  17. The biggest issue for me is that I think I have turned the indicators off, but I can't have quite pushed the button enough and the indicator stays on. The warning light is out of my peripheral vision and what with no warning sound, i ride on blissfully unaware. My solution would be an audible warning after say 5 flashes as standard. I don't do it enough to warrant getting some sort of after market warning fitted and the ones I have heard sound awful.
  18. I did a tour of Donegal. Covering a lot of the roads used in the "Northern Headlands". This last photo was going to include the bike, but it was so windy I was only just able to stay upright and get a photo; Just like Scotland, you need to prepare for 3 seasons in one day. The roads were fine and often very wide to accommodate a side lane for tractors. There was no burger vans, and where in Scotland there would have been a burger van, there was a stall selling potatoes!
  19. I will be in Iceland on that date.
  20. I liked the opening post, not realising how old the thread was!
  21. I had BW exhausts fitted to my KLE500 and Versys 650, no issues with either and for the year or so before I sold the bikes on. My local dealer, who fitted the second one for me, also had had no quality or fitting issues with them.
  22. Lairg was a stop on the challenge a few years ago. The roads round there are awesome.
  23. If it gets properly cold and will stay that way for a while (like last winter) I use super-unleaded. The rest of the time I use whatever is nearest when the tank needs filling.
  24. Somewhere in the Midlands. I would happily ride for my usual 5 to 6 hours on the Friday, to camp two nights and return Sunday.
  25. I think it is wise to decide early that there will not be a rally and maybe a break will help to refresh for next year.
