  1. Both of those routes have great roads and 5 to 6 days gives you plenty of time. There are very few off road roads that it is legal to ride on in Scotland and none are on the route you have shown. I would alter your route and stick to numbered roads or else you could find yourself stuck by something as simple as a locked gate.
  2. Been quiet for a while so missed this. No rally? Maybe just a meet for a camp and drink round a fire? That sounds like a rally, minus the dressing up and karaoke. I have kept 4 days holiday in reserve for any meet and my only request is that it is no too far south.
  3. At least you stayed awake during the interview. I had an interviewer doze off on me.

  5. The thing is though, nutter bikers also give all bikers a bit of a reputation for being nutters, which I think means many drivers just leave us alone and would be reticent at starting a confrontation.
  6. Old Beetle owners wave at each other, the new ones don't. I drive an ancient Volvo and get a few waves. That weird leg thing tends to be German bikers.
  7. I posted my response as you posted yours. On Islay all the fingers are shown and on Tiree it is just the index finger.
  8. If you visit one of the Hebridean Islands and the remotest parts of Scotland, everyone waves at each other. It is the sheer excitement of seeing another driver, having possibly gone for hours without seeing anyone at all.
  9. The only time I did not bother with the full kit was when I had a lock up at a container park. Out of hours it was closed off and only accessible to those who had containers. If there was no one else there, it was fun having a ride about with no kit or even a helmet.
  10. I thought that, till I saw some videos of the latest Triumph Scrambler being taken off road. Very capable indeed. High clearance, knobbly tyres and long suspension travel makes any bike at least OK off road.
  11. Does forgetting to zip your fly, so the old tadger falls out count?
  12. I like that there is a bike called Um. If someone asks you what bike have you got, you can reply "um" and then pause. That leaves the questioner to think, has he forgotten what bike he has? I also like that another company is having a go at importing and selling a new range of bikes. Competition is good and from that, there will be winners who go on to produce quality products. I also like the range Um has, especially the Scrambler and Vegas.
  13. Even Theresa May has admitted everyone is fed up with Brexit. At the moment it is just a waiting game as Parliament has a series of votes to try and get a solution. The only thing that is remotely interesting about Brexit is that never, in the history of Parliament, has anything like this ever happened. So we really are witnessing history that will be as famous as 1066, the Magna Carta, the Great Fire of London and D-Day.
  14. Did something go wrong with his bike? I remember I was in the car that year and had a toolkit that I lent him. Can't quite remember what was wrong though Had the car reverse into the road in front of him, causing emergency braking when he had a new pillion on the back. Bike went down and if I remember rightly it was the lefthand footpeg that snapped off Was only in the first few minutes of the ride out too, so though it wasn't too far to get it back, it sucked for him to miss out on the ride; especially as his pillion was there to say goodbye to his brother. I had to stop on a tight bend due to a reversing car on a narrow road. I was worried the next one round the corner would come into the back of me, so I tried to shuffle forwards and my foot slipped, so over we went. The peg revolved back on itself and I had to hand over the pillion and ride back to the camp site to borrow tools to loosen the bolt and revolve the peg back round. We went over very gently so there was no harm to us and once the peg was put back into position the bike was fine as well. Very frustrating.
  15. The most secure ground anchors are like this; which are concreted into the ground. The type that bolts on, is better on a wall than on the ground;
  16. Welcome to the massive club of bikers who have come off their bikes. It has a membership of 99% of all bikers. Thankfully most are minor like yours and the cause was as likely to be target fixation as you realise speed is too high and you look at where you are trying to avoid, which is why you end up not avoiding it.
  17. OK, not actually mine, my fathers BSA Bantam 125cc, photographed in 1959, we think in Somerset. My father would wear the helmet. My mother would wear his jacket as she preferred to keep warm.
  18. I declined the opportunity to get a reg that ended GTF. Wish I had got it now!
  19. OK, not actually mine, I got it for a test ride;
  20. You must have accidentally gone somewhere else.
  21. I have had a couple of odd bits removed from my bikes, which are parked outside the house. I have suspected kids being challenged to do dares.
  22. August bank holiday dodgy too as it's motogp at siverstone Good point, best avoid a bank holiday weekend.
  23. Jesus I'm not that old ....and you were all woman.
  24. I know it is very early, but any idea as to when and where? I presume August sometime?

    There was a boiling water tap at work, but you had to put the cup below it and use both hands to push buttons to get the water out. Your hands were away from the flow of water.
