Dang....you beat me to it Alan.....

Used to be a thing of taking the cables off the bike and hanging them up and putting some oil at the top of the inner periodically and letting it run through. Cables these days are better because most have a nylon or other coating around the inner which tends to be self lubricating to an extent.

Shame you couldn't make it Neil......was a good ride. Maybe next time?.....

Should I sew seams on goretex jacket?
Tango replied to jacol's topic in Clothing, Luggage, Accessories and Security
Normally the GoreTex is behind the outer material....kinda like a membrane backing the outer material. I guess carefully restitching the seam would not hurt too much....at the end of the day what have you got to lose.....apart from the waterproofing.... -
Nice pictures Ash.....many thanks to you, your dad and Mandy for a really nice run out and great company..... I like that route as it's not normally clogged with cars and it's also nice scenery and some good twisty bits.... Thanks again mate....

TBH I think I'd be inclined to rebuild your existing callipers. It's an easy job...and once you know how to do it you'll be ok to do it if needed in the future. The other calliper you are looking at may be in no better condition than the one already on your bike. Deauville's are a good commuter bike and most tend to get used year round....so any secondhand parts are likely to be "used and abused" .....

OK mate......it just sounded from some of your other threads that you were having trouble fitting the restrictors.......so, sorry for the misunderstanding.....we're just looking out for ya.... It may be that you're overdamped or preload is too much......but you will find with a sports bike that the suspension is firmer than you may be used to. So you've just got to give it a bit of time, take it a bit steady and get used to the bike. If after a couple of months riding you still feel it's too firm then try tweaking it. Did you get a Owners Handbook with the bike? That would normally have some suggested settings for different riding scenarios listed......just be carefull if you do try adjusting it yourself....you could end up making the bike unrideable if you're not carefull. Good Luck.

It's a shame you feel this way Mark........but I don't think you can blame TMBF for the lack of response to your rideout. Personally I've posted up a couple of rides around my area.....I'll be going out come what may and if anyone else wants to join that's great....but if they don't, that's fine too. Maybe if you were a bit more specific on where you were planning to go there may have been a different response I don't know. As Sue says there are many reasons for participating in this forum....one of which is rideouts but there are other aspects too which your experience as a biker can encourage and help some of the newer bikers. Anyway....I hope you have better luck in the future with rideouts and can still drop by TMBF from time to time. Ride safe and have fun.....

Nice one Ash..... Not sure that UFO are open on Sundays mate.....
-
11:30 UFO then......if ya there...ya there then. Not gonna be a mad ride....just a nice bimble round some quiet roads. Seeya there if you are participating.....

It's a sports bike so the suspension will be firmer than your 125. You could take it to a specialist who can tune the suspension to your riding style and personal profile (weight, Height, etc) But get the restrictors fitted first........if you have an off the insurance company will not pay out if you've not got the relevant restrictors fitted.....

A guy goes into a pet shop and asks for a pet that can talk. The pet shop owner says "we've got this African Grey Parrot that can talk" Guy says "How much is it?" Pet Shop owner says "£800" "blimey" says the guy "I haven't got that much money" "well, we've got a Mynah bird that can say a few things" "How much is that then?" "£150" " Nah, still too much for me" says the guy "How much money do you have then?" asks the pet shop owner "£10" says the guy "Hmmmm" says the pet shop owner "we've got this millipede. I can let you have that for £10" "Can it talk?" asks the guy "Yes, it can talk. And it can do odd jobs too" So the guy buys the millipede and takes it home. When he gets there he says to the millipede "can you cook?" " yes" says the millipede "what do you fancy for your tea?" "I'll have a fry-up please" 20 minutes later the millipede brings a plate in with the best fry-up the guy has ever seen. "Can you fetch my slippers?" the guys asks "sure thing" says the millipede. And fetches the guys slippers. The guy is thinking this is fantastic and settles down to watch the horse racing on the tv. After a while he asks " can you nip down the bookies and put this bet on for me?" "No problem" says the millipede and goes out into the hall 5 minutes go by and the guy is thinking "I've not heard the door open yet" 10 minutes....still no door After 20 minutes he shouts out to the millipede "What are you playing at? I asked you to go down the bookies 20 minutes ago!!" "Give us a chance" says the millipede "I'm still putting my shoes on!!"

A guy knocked at the door today and said he was collecting old clothes for starving people in Africa. Well I told him to f*ck off.......I mean they can't be starving if my clothes will fit them!

A guy is playing a round of golf with his mate when he hits a wild shot right into a water trap. As he's retrieving his ball he spots a frog sitting nearby. The frog then says "If you kiss me I'll turn into a beautiful Princess, and we can get married and live together for the rest of our lives". The guy picks the frog up and puts it in his pocket. His mate came down to see what was going on and heard everything. He says to the guy "Didn't you hear that? If you kiss that frog it'll turn into a beautiful princess and you can get married and live together for the rest of your lives! Don't you want that?" The guy says "Nah.......I'd rather have a talking frog!"

Hmmmmm.....good news, but this is the sort of thing why I won't trust my bike with "professionals"... Glad it wasn't anything too serious though.....
-
Yeah...may need a bit of lube. Also check the routing of the cable....make sure there are no sharp bends between the throttle and the carbs and the cable is not trapped somewhere under the tank. With the engine off you should be able to open the throttle fully and when you let it go it should snap back quickly.
-
Yeah....blue smoke could be just running extremely rich or burning off unburnt fuel after attempting to start the bike........ Deffo get some tools......
-
Clean at the moment.....touch wood.... 110mph on the A13 in Essex back in '83 was my last recorded misdemeanor........ Captain sensible now though.....
-
I bloody well hope not Thanks for the suggestions. I can try no choke and full throttle and bump starting in a higher gear, but spark plug out is going to be difficult as I do not have the tools. Not even a spark plug spanner...
-
Did you hear about the dyslexic robber......he held up a bank with a Gnu..... Or the dyslexic pimp....he opened a warehouse......
-
Yeah....loose battery terminal by the sounds of it.
-
Where does the other end of that pipe go?
-
May be flooding......try starting it with no choke and the throttle wide open (against end stop). If that don't work remove the plug and see if it's wet or not. Could be no or weak spark. When bumping it try the higher gears...2nd, 3rd or even 4th.

1/ Diesel spill on the corner of a one-way system in south London...was just accelerating round to beat a wall of traffic just pulling away from some lights....no-one would even stop to let me push my bike to the side of the road once I'd picked it up....slightly bruised.....scraped foot brake and front brake lever and r/h exhaust 2/ Pulling away from a filling station in winter.....car wash had overflowed and the water had frozen across the road.....lifted my left leg and watched the bike slide across the road...same side as previous drop. 3/ New front pads fitted to my RD350...was on way back from bike shop in fine drizzle.....car in front stopped, I grabbed a handfull of brake lever.....front end went down and slid into rear of car....I was watching this from where I had jumped off the bike.....smashed headlight and scraped front mudguard.... Near misses?.....too many to count.....
-
Yeah....I think oslin06 is spot on......youve trapped a wire under the tank or near the airbox......and the throttle cable routing is probably not right. All you can do is pull everything apart again and retrace your steps and look for trapped wires and if the throttle cable is getting hooked up on something when you put it all back together. Good Luck
