  1. A lot of people who use their phone think they're entitled to use it. One twonk this evening was blatantly using the phone behind me and when I turned round to check when I pulled up at the lights he flipped the bird. He was clearly angry that I'd spotted him like a lot of people are when you catch them (rather than feeling guilty.) I would never have reported anyone before, but after recently watching idiots on phones driving recklessly and especially after thiis evening, I think I might start dobbing people in.
  2. Now I'm a dad, I tell my dad off for swearing in front of my daughter.
  3. The bike didn't take the news very well and decided to have a rear puncture this morning! At least I can push the bike to the garage.
  4. My driving test. Not that excited as I much prefer the bike and I only took the test because the missus wanted me to have the car occassionally to taxi my daughter about. Anyway it's a good excuse to have a Chinese tonight!
  5. Congrats.. Sleepless nights, less drinking, a virtually non-existent social life...........but totally worth it.
  6. Ness Point in Lowestoft - UK's most easterly point. I don't think I can park my bike there though.... anyone from Lowestoft know?
  7. I went last year and will be going today. Plenty of stalls, bikes on show and events. I'm looking forward to the wall of death. Haven't seen one since I was six or seven when I lived in Crayford.
  8. The GLW has booked a nice cottage in north Norfolk. I rode up yesterday and the wind made it the scariest ride I've done. I took a very long detour to drop in at my mum and dad. I'm looking forward to the return leg on Monday. In the mean time it's swimming, barbecues and sleeping.
  9. Been listening to The Black Crowes - Southern Harmony and Musical Companion. Really like My Morning Song from it. Gotta play it loud or not at all.
  10. And not recommended if anyone has a Robin Reliant.
  11. That made me litterally laugh out loud! Glad your alright, what did you hit your head on? Sadly enough the edge of the head rest.... which has since been adjusted. That makes the story even more weak.
  12. Well it has certainly been a fun packed day. After doing so well learning to drive this morning, my wife, daughter and I set off to a charity event near Bury. As the missus was reversing out the drive she hit a parked car. She got out, knocked on the neighbour's door, apologised, got back in the car and set off to the end of the road. It was only then she noticed that I had passed out. Somehow I was knocked out going less than 5mph. I've been to A&E in case it was serious, but they've given me the all clear. Anyway I now have good ammo to use against 'bikes are dangerous cars are not' brigade next time the argument comes up. I don't think I'll sue either.....we couldn't afford to lose the no claims!
  13. I have just had a driving lesson. Apparently I was very good. I wouldn't bother getting a car licence, but the wife asked me and offered to pay. Any tips for a middle age man who knows biking bit hardly anything about cars.

    Olympics

I'm going to watch GB vs. Brazil ladies football at Wembley. Not that excited by the whole thing though.
  15. Just my opinion. Whether a driver hits a motorcyclist, a pushbike or a pedestrian in a country lane it is difficult to prove driver negligence. A friend of mine got hit by a car coming round a corner at about 50mph whilst we were walking to the pub. Charges weren't even brought against the driver as the police said our statements and the injury (a broken arm) weren't considered enough evidence by the CPS to proceed. We were in a 30mph bit of road at the time. But what should we do? Put cameras on every bit of road? Put limiters on all vehicles? I don't think so. The court and jury system isn't perfect, but it is the least worst system that I know of.
  16. My brother lived with my parents up until his death. They got on real well and it was useful for my folks as the had a live in cat sitter when they went on holiday. My wife and I live with my mother in law (she moved from Southampton last year) and it is very good... and we have a baby sitter at short notice too now. My daughter is going to be brought up in an extended family which may mean I'll be living with my grand children when I'm older if we continue the trend. I've lived alone or with girlfriends, but I much prefer the big family set up..... but that may be middle age.
  17. I listened to ackerdacker effin' loud on the train and scowled at anyone thinking of sitting near me. Well it made me happy. Ironic as I think I'm pretty polite and unassuming on the road...... but public transport has given me an atitude.
  18. I'm against having a monarchy, but as my father law pointed out, I'm in the minority. So for all those celebrating.... enjoy.
  19. I'm glad the missus isn't watching this too, as I just caught my self leaning in the same direction as the bike mounted cameras.
  20. I don't a licence for car driving. Mind you I'm going to learn soon because the GLW said she'd try riding pillion if I learnt to drive. I expect whoever teaches me isn't going to like instructing a middle aged biker.
  21. And to counter the niceness of bikers...... drivers of ridiculously big pickups are t****rs. Last year I pulled up to help a lady out of an over turned car. Some neandertal in a giant great Nissan yelled at me to get my bike off the road...... Couldn't see the car in a ditch or just didn't care. Even now remembering that twonk makes me angry.
