  1. My TWIN! Awesome, together we'll be mattycoops136!
  2. Totally agree, you need to find out what is actually not working before spending lots of money, But you need a battery, so I would get one, then check what its charging at before you run it much, A dead battery will draw all the current from the generator, so even a fully working charging system will not run the spark, a faulty charging system will not run the spark and cause a dead battery. Put the battery on, if it's a 6v I am not an expert in these, but I would guess you want 7.5-8v while running. A 12v system should be 13.4 up when running and fully charged.
  3. But...... Whos mattycoops93? Do I have competition???
  4. Kick start! I would be looking at battery/charge problems, Those are the symptoms to me of a battery that doesn't have enough power to run the spark over certain revs. Probably charging system as it would run the bike with a flat battery if it was all working ok, unless the battery was so dead the generator couldn't keep up. Measure the battery voltage with it not running, then measure it with it running, it should be at least 2 volts higher when running. Also check battery, is it a gel cell? lead acid? does it have dry cells? Matt
  5. Well, we got a 'placement' for the son sorted, so I am a definite plus the wife! Can't be doing trolling through all the pages trying to track down the latest list to add to, can someone in the know put us on the list? We're coming up from Newport/Bristol direction if anyone wants to ride up together, will be avoiding motorways cos their boring! Matt
  6. Totally agree, but 90% of people don't have either in their toolbox!
  7. wd40 would be fine for that. Electrical cleaner leaves it too dry in my opinion. wd leaves a very light film that stops corrosion.
  8. Also, when you hear about people saying cruisers don't do corners, don't get too paranoid, people are comparing them to sports bikes that get thrown around on the bends, at normal cruising speeds, they will go round corners just as well as any other bike, as long as nothing is wrong with them.
  9. Least you got it going!
  10. Hmmmm. Cutting a lump off a spring, doesn't adjust it's rate, purely it's travel. That's physics! FZR forks from the same age bike are 38mm also, so would bolt straight into my yokes, and they are compression and rebound damping adjustable from what I can see. SO the ideal would be a complete fzr front end so I get twin disc wheel and calipers, but use my original yokes so my handlebars stay the same.
  11. Not on my bike, kill switch stops starter turning too!
  12. Cheers, I'll look them up.
  13. Do you mean getting the internals changed professionally? No, never considered it. Can you recommend somewhere that would do it?
  14. Yep-thats the main points, also, due to bikes getting wet allt he time, not uncommon for simple bad connections to relays etc under the seat, due to too much water around. I have fixed this kind of problem with wd40 and a wiggle of all the connector blocks. I reckon as has been said before, primary candidates are the safety features, neutral indicator, sidestand, and clutch lever switches. If any one has failed, you could have probs, but try the wd40 on them first.
  15. Thanks for that guys, as has been said bits should be cheap so worth a go. I am a mechanic/engineer, so would be able to do mods to stuff anyway, as long as it didnt require major tools! I am guessing if you fit a complete FZR end., it is just a case of having bearings that fit the yokes, but I thought it might be easier to keep the divvy yokes and fit fork tubes, as they have bars on a pair of risers, so fzr clip on front end would probably not fit standard bars. I would then have to put some kind of raised clip ons on, (zzr type). Not bothered about twin discs, as to be honest, the speed it does, the one on there is ok, but I guess if an fzr front with wheel came up cheap it would be an easy option. I have learned the hard way, a cheap swap because expensive if you get everything except 1 brake disc for example. Will check out the divvy forums.
  16. Hi guys. Probably keeping the 600 divvy, even when I get something bigger, so was wondering if theres an easy way to upgrade the suspension to make it firmer and better damped by using sh parts from other bikes. So, can I for example bolt a set of fzr600 forks straight on, or switch the springs over etc, is there a monshock that will swap over that improves the rear. The bike rides ok, but the suspension is mega soft front and rear,no rebound damping AT ALL! Its a 97 model 600n with the 38mm forks, and a single left hand disc on the front. Any help appreciated. Matt
  17. Only the bits that dont show/get washed.
  18. A 19 Stone (currently) 6' bloke with no hair on a knackered old divvy 600 thats been hand painted in black hammerite. What could there POSSIBLY be to take the piss out of????????
  19. Looking like I can make this, if I turn up, will people talk to me? I am VERY shy!
  20. No probs. The offers there, let me know if you get stuck. Pm me in case I don't see this post
  21. Sorry-Confused. Still can't guess WHO passed their theory test?
  22. I am only in Newport, if you fancy trip over, I'll have it out for you! Got me dremel at the ready!
  23. The easiest and quickest way is to use a small dremel type drill with a small cutting disc, to make a small slot for a flat head screwdriver. Easy to do and always works. You can make the slot wide enough for a chunky screwdriver if you need to. Usually end up with a couple of minor marks either side of the screw, nut doesn't cause an issue. Other option is an impact driver, they tend to loosen the rust as well, and the action of hitting them stops the driver slipping.
  24. Back in 96, cbt on schools 125, then lessons with an instructor, one a week, did about 5 lessons on a kawasaki 650, then took das test at test centre. Think it was about £45 for a 2hr lesson, Loved every minute of it, and I would heartily recommend one on one lessons over an intensive course. Partly because after a week break, your subconscious has processed the things you were trying to learn the previous lesson and it all seems easier. I find trying to do it all immediately you are forcing info in and it doesn't seem as easy. Reckon it cost me under £400 all in. I went out and bought a Z200 as it was cheap, but the engine was knacked so I got a CX500 that had been painted in camo for £300 and it was awesome!
  25. How many topics would you like?
