  1. clean the carbs out. most bikes need it every once in a while and its a bit less invasive than cam cover off.
  2. Ha ha! The infamy is awesome!
  3. This is not an anti chinese bike rant I promise, but that bike particularly is starting to sound like a bike that I would not want to get on for health and safety reasons. Stay safe mate!
  4. I had similar symptoms when a coil started to break down on the fazer. Water makes it short across so you lose spark, so it was either coil or ht leads breaking down. I just changed the lot and its been perfect ever since.
  5. Thanks guys. We had top yoke off a couple weeks ago to tighten the bearings, but nothing trapped. There has been horrendous rain lately, and it lives outside, so wd40 is probably a good bet.
  6. Hi peeps. Bit of a funny one. Several times I have left my bike at work, when I come back to it at the end of a shift the trip meter is showing the permanent odometer mileage, and the trip mileage has been reset to 0. Not sure if this is a fault, or if someone is somehow messing with my bike while it's parked. It is acting as it does if I disconnect the battery, but the bike has no known electrical or starting issues, battery holds charge for weeks. Got me a bit stumped.
  7. goes over the fazer with 48lt top box, just bottom of back wheel shows. think it's xl size
  8. I have that exact one off ebay and a year in it still looks like new and is still waterproof. I had a different one before which is not fairing so well on second bike.
  9. different connections? if you can lend some jump leads just connect it up.
  10. I use the £10 ones off ebay, tend to get a couple of years out of them which seems fair enough to me. Heard to many reviews of expensive ones failing for me to bother spending out.
  11. How have you tested the battery? Solenoid clicking is normally duff battery (or flat at least) although that solenoid does look rusty! Solenoid can be tested, will be open circuit across the main terminals, then when you put 12v across it (by pressing starter button) it should be closed circuit. This can be tested while it's all connected up. If it's clicking but not closing the circuit then it has definitely failed. You can connect your bike to another bike with jump leads and if it goes straight away, then it's got to be the battery.
  12. Suspended from work today. Totally ridiculous. Went in for 4:55am standby duty to find it was changed overnight to a 7am-8:30pm shift. not happy, was told I could finish early and they would cover it. So I am doing my duty, get off the bus at 11 for my first break, get told I am meant to run another service into Bristol on my break, then carry on with the rest of my duty when I get back. In other words, no break, expected to work through my unpaid break for free. I said no. Called to office, suspended on full pay till disciplinary meeting. f**k em. Gonna apply to a different bus company I don't need this kind of crap.
  13. My suspicion is you have caught norovirus. almost everyone I know has it and it's horrendous. I lost 1/2 stone overnight on thursday.
  14. This is a very good point......if the battery and alternator haven't got the necessary power to drive the grips fully then they won't get as hot as they should...... Yes. but I think his figures are wrong. 2.5A max is totally wrong. 3Ahr battery means it can supply 3 Amps for 1 hr (which is not a lot) but a starter will draw a much higher current than that, but for a very small time. It's a guess but must be 30amps mnimum as a car or big bike can draw 60-90amps when starting. The blurb with my oxford grips states 20A on max power but 75% is too much, usually use them on 50 so 10A draw. any modern alternator will easily supply that amount of juice. I think the problem is they are crap. Probably worth investing in some decent ones if you are riding through winter. they do make a huge difference.
  15. Yep, my oxford ones the hottest setting burns and the glue unstocks so the grips rotate. 50% is perfect.
  16. Don't put yourself down, any off knocks your confidence. From what you are saying, it sounds like you need to stop overthinking, and just give it time and just get miles under your belt to let you settle back into it.
  17. I use the first one, tx direct and its ace.
  18. Thanks Stu. I have searched for both, there's millions for sale but no info on stripping. I have done caliprs like that before, popping them out, and I have cleaned these by pumping out a bit then cleaning but not removing, but I just fancy giving them a proper job! It IS possible, just want to know if there's any problems. I have seen rebuild kits for sale with all the seals.
  19. Hi there has anyone rebuilt blue dot calipers properly? They work fine, but having recently completely stripped the Nissin's on the firestorm, I want to do the fazer brakes before they do seize up with being used everyday through the winter. I have never done them. I can get the tool on ebay for a tenner to screw the blue bit in, but info is surprisingly sparse about actually what you need to do. I have found a couple of random forum posts saying the dot screws into the caliper, not out, but no info in manual it just says to pop them out by pumping, but I want to do a complete strip down. Just wondered if anyone had actually done it? Nothing anywhere on youtube that I can find which is unusual and shows how few people strip these down.
  20. Yes, has happened to me if I am lazy on the change. Can be from rushing the change a bit.
  21. Yes, all our new ones have about 20 on all over the place. However, shit bus companies will never give a driver access to the footage or time to report to the police.
  22. Its a thin wax that seeps into all the seems then dries off. It will make it look wet until it dries out, I have an over waistcoat that is purely there to be reflective, its black with a big reflective pattern on it, I nikwaxed it as well and it did no harm. Nikwax recommend using their special wash to clean out the pores in the fabric first but I have never needed to bother if I am honest. But then my gear doesn't tend to get dirty, just wet.
