Yes that makes sense. Nikwax is where it's at. I have a big spray bottle of it. My spada suit would be waterproof for about 3 months, then I would start to get a leak in the same place as you, a quick re spray of nikwax and it would be bone dry. I also have a nikwax boot thing that is like a shoe polish dispenser with a squeegee sponge, it is a thick white wax (still liquid) that you rub onto the boot with a dispenser and then wipe off the excess. I don't believe we should accept being wet if we're on a bike. If you look after your gear and use the right stuff you can stay dry. I ride on the motorway every day in all weathers and stay dry and warm. My new Weiss 2 piece suit is far more comfortable as it's softer and so far has been bone dry and warm.

Well, far be it from me to argue with the majority.

What? at 95? I would put my hand up and say that probably counts as an undertake!
-
Don't worry, I won't. I wouldn't expect anyone else to give a crap.

I fell off at 30mph in all the gear except trousers, and I got pretty hurt. Moo fell off at 30mph and has major health issues over a year later. If you fall off a bike you are going to get hurt, unless you are lucky. Gear might help, it might not, depends what happens and what you hit or what hits you. Some gear is better than others. I have just bought a textile 2 piece suit, it is armoured but the material is very soft. I wouldn't give two hoots for abrasion resistance if I fell off on the motorway but it's warm, waterproof comfy and has armour in all the important places. Pays yer money, takes yer pick.

Here we go again, just waiting for World War ATGATT to start.

Makes me laugh how in the same post we have people complaining that 'Christian' motorists are a pain for driving just under the speed limit, but on the same page, we have moans about inconsiderate bully's who dare to drive close to someone who is riding just under the NSL to force them to move over. No one can ever be complained about because they are driving or riding at or just under the NSL, it is the law. You can't complain because someone else is NOT breaking the law. I get a move on when I am out on the bike, but if I come up behind someone who is driving or riding at the NSL I will sit behind until there is a safe place to overtake. Which is easy if someone is doing the NSL. You won't find me bullying someone to speed up because I am enjoying my bike and want to break the speed limit. Middle lane hoggers, now that's another thing, but I normally just undertake them.

+1 for grips. I have oxford ones and they are ace, they might only heat your palms but the blood pumping through your arms carries the heat up into the arms and trunk of your body. The difference is really astounding. I have had muffs, but find them awkward and they tend to foul the controls. I am thinking of adding bar guards as a windbreak as well as hot grips.

Spada System One piece textile suit

So far finding the Weiss far more comfortable and 100% waterproof despite several torrential sideways rain trips. -
...especially on a 125? Personally, I'd dig the stone out and then check the hole for a leak. HEY! it IS a cbr125!!!

I hope I am wrong, but that looks like the head of a flat nail to me. As techno said, tyres can be repaired, but I think it depends a bit how you ride, a blow out at ton plus speeds would be fairly catastrophic, if you only ever bimble about at 50 it might be a bit less scary (a BIT less!)

I need one of these for the storm, especially as I want to do a vfr swingarm conversion, so wont be able to use the paddock stand anymore. Anyone have one to sell?

Spada System One piece textile suit

Update! Shop were brilliant, but the replacement suit took 7 weeks to arrive. I wore it for a week and it that week both the wrist zips broke, and the main front zip was sown with a bulge at the bottom so it was really hard to start it off when doing it up. All the zips felt very rough and I was extremely disappointed. Took it back to south wales superbikes this morning and they were very good, could see why I was not happy and have given me a full credit which I have spent on a set of weiss jacket and trousers. Very strange new material, is a new type of cordura which is very soft, but has the same strength as the thick stuff. Well, we'll see how it goes anyway, unfrotunately cost me another £95 on top of the original price to go to jacket and trousers but I wasn't prepared to wait another 6 weeks for a replacement then find that was no good either. I would say Spada are scrimping on the quality of their components and I would avoid them now. My new one was no where near as well built as the original one from 8 months ago. -
I am going to ring the straightening people tomorrow but if i do buy, will be trying these.

Thanks for the link Bob, looks good, mine are the same as cbr 900, 600, vfr 400, vfr 750 etc etc etc form the 90s they all used the same disk, so the ones listed would be ok for my bike. I have been advised to stay away from cheapie replicas, but tbh, any comp[any that manufactures their own to sell I am interested in because they have control of their own quality control and any issues you can go back to them direct.
-
Thanks guys, I checked the bobbins, there was a bit of dirt behind but not a lot and they were moving freely. I know it can be the carrier that warps, going to check everything else is straight, then send them off for straightening.

Thanks Mart My neighbour has a few blades, we think the whole wheel might swap over tbh, but obv I want to sort my bike out properly. Good call on checking the rest, the bike WAS front ended when I got it, the forks and yoke was bent, and I have rebuilt all that. The only thing is there are no vibes, no pulsing through the lever, the bike rides fine, is smooth and brakes fine, the only issue is when you slow to a stop there is feeling that one half of the disc or discs is grippier than the other half if that makes sense, also the discs I mot'd it with last week showed a 40% fluctuation, and the ones I changed to were almost in tolerance, but not quite. So, I definitely think you might have a point, but wouldn't a bent axle or dodgy wheel show up as vibes etc at high speed? I have looked down when riding and the wheel looks perfectly true, not buckled. What would I check for? buckled wheel, bent axle, damaged wheel bearings? anything else?

Anyone ever used these guys? http://www.motoliner.com/motorcycle-bra ... tening.php seems like a fair price if it works.

Hi there Don't know if this is possible. I have now tried 3 sets of discs on my firestorm and not found one straight set. Piece of advice for anyone, DON'T even bother trying to buy second hand discs. I had a warped disc on the bike when I got it, was sold a set that were 'perfect' for £50. I even rang the bloke to get history, he said they were on a bike he was riding, then took off the road to break, they were mint and the bike was in mot. result 40% brake force fluctuation. Next, was kindly GIVEN a set of vfr400 discs (same fitting) by a guy on the storm forum, he posted them to me, said he thought they were ok, but couldn't be sure, very kind of him anyway! result, 25% brake force fluctuation. Frustration is mot guy said if they were 20% he would have let it go. I think a lot of old bikes are going to have this issue, as all new mot stations have a rolling road brake tester that is mega sensitive, have been told by a local mechanic the sales staff hate it as they go to put a used bike on sale and without fail they have to fit new discs as old discs just won't go through. £300 a set! not a cheap hobby and I can see a lot of old bikes being scrapped for it. SO, I have 3 sets of discs, all full thickness, good overall condition, just not completely straight, we're talking probably 0.1 or 0.2 mm variation, that MUST be able to be ground down? Does anyone know a company that will refinish them for me? There's got to be a market for it! If not, Might have to invest in a lathe and some tools for mounting brake discs!

I had same symptons on my fazer and it was a coil, the coil starts to overheat and gets worse after 10-15 mins riding. Worse in the wet too for some reason.
-
I have heard of a few being fitted. Read reviews as they are variable, some are really excellent and some wont fit without modding, so it makes a big difference which company you buy from.

What stops an air cooled bike overheating......
mattycoops43 replied to Throttled's topic in Pitstop
So I was right then? -
Yes, I would agree. If you had not repaired it yourself first, I would have got a proper repair done, but once it's had a temp repair I would bin it.

Air. Seriously.
