Kevlar jeans

Recommended Posts

Not sure whether to buy Kevlar jeans or proper protective trousers. I ride pillion on my husband's Honda 1000. Don't want to get too hot during the summer. Any recommendations?

What does he wear??

If he's fully armoured up and ready for a fall, I reckon you probably ought to be too!!

All depends where you're riding, how often and how good your hubby is...

20mph round town, and you won't need leathers. 90mph on the motorway and leathers would be a good idea :)

The advertising claims are quite impressive I haven't any myself & I am an atgatt champion but last year my mate wore some on a Germany trip, he was cool I was a braised lamb chop, I think I want some too. Although I like the airtex stuff aswell, but with the jeans you can just hop off & walk about looking sort of normal.

I've got a pair of Hood motorcycle jeans that I wear in the warmer weather. ....got knee and hip armour, so there's some protection there......pics on their site showing jeans that have survived 70mph offs..... 8-)

It's hard to find bike clothes that fit all eventualities - particularly with the British weather. If you are going to be strictly a fair-weather pillion then armoured kevlar jeans sound like a good idea, perhaps with some inexpensive waterproof over trousers in case you get caught out in the rain. Don't stint on the armour though - Kevlar will protect your skin from abrasion but the armour can potentially prevent fractures - not all kevlar jeans have pockets for armour

Hood jeans do a ladies version that I'm thinking of trying - I tried some supposedly 'unisex' jeans from another manufacturer on at the London bike show but they had about 6" of spare material at the waist (or 6" not enough material at the hip depending on how you want to look at it ) ie. 'Unisex' = 'Bloke'. The only good thing about the fit was that you could adjust the height of the knee armour ('Woman' = 'short bloke')

I have lightly vented leather bike trousers that I wear with thermals under when its cold - they suit most conditions

I have a pair of each. Kevlar jeans for when the weather is nice. At 20+mph you can feel the air so not to hot (maybe when walking around?) And my commuting trousers and ones i wear in bad weather are a pair of textiles. go over any trousers and my boots and are rather comfortable. Has a lining which i removed as its far to hot :)

If you're just gonna be pillion ( i assume nice weather? ) Get some jeans they're a bit breathable and if it rains stick waterproofs over which are light as anything.

Thanks for most useful replies. I will mostly be riding in good weather but will probably end up riding in wet weather when I get used to it.

My husband suggested the jeans so will most probably go for those with waterproofs but yet to try some.

Bought some Oxford Kevlar jeans, 60 quid but rep was 89. They are good looking, but the knee armour is a bit shocking. Also the knee armour is below my knee walking around and above my knee on my bike....will recommened sitting on a bike when trying on...

Still pretty good though, kind of want a pair where the knee armour is in a better position!

The kevlar jeans are excellent so hubby got some too. :D

Looking forward to using them again at the weekend when we go for a blast!

Also got a great pink motorbike jacket to match my pink lid!

Normally not a girly girl. Must be the effect of coming out of horses & getting my adrenalin rush on the bike, even if it as a pillion.

My wife has pink and black top to toe....

My bike is black, silver and gold. Colour clash much...

Hope the jeans are comfy, I believe they can zip to the jackets as well which I would recommend doing, stops bare skin :D

I have a pair of Hood kevlar jeans too. They are excellent - almost fully kevlar lined. Their price have shot up over the last few years but really good quality.

They do an inside leg of 36" too. A bonus for those over 6' like me.
