B&Q has the best layout I find. Although I go to Wickes mainly for basic electrical supplies as it's not too bad in that regard. Everything else they are substandard. Screwfix is expensive, but as it's a click and order thing I don't mind some of the stuff they do. Homebase is a bit of a mess so I don't even look now, I just track down a member of staff and get them to show me around.Staff are a bit weird though in the homebase near me, I went up to a young lass to ask where a light fitting was I needed. She was showing me around when very suddenly she stops, looks at me scared and asks "Is there chocolate on my face?!". I looked, answered "eeerm... no" and then she acted massively embarrassed and more or less ran off... I was just left there like "wtf". Left me next to where the light fitting was though! klingelton Posted January 19, 2016 Share Posted January 19, 2016 All the homebases near me are either closed or turned into an argos.I'm fond of Screwfix, but then it's a short distance from my house and is no fuss. they do decent tools at not extrotionate prices - enough for the enthusiast anyway. e.g. we had a blockage of the drains. dynorod wanted £75 to come out and sort it. £15 rod kit from screwfix and 30 mins work cleared the blockage. i had all the neighbours out thanking me! Adam Posted January 19, 2016 Share Posted January 19, 2016 B&Q used to have specialists for each department, mainly retired builders, plumbers etc however they were classed as experts and got a higher salary so of course they've now got rid of them. So few things are on it and most of the things that are have a weensy discount.Anyroad, I get far better prices, service and delivery on my Ridgeons account. We had a look at B&Q price wise they seemed a lot cheaper than tops tiles. Where else do suggest that is good quality but not a complete rip off? I've been a floor layer since I was 17.Don't go to b&q for wooden flooring. Have a look at haro. They're shit hot, I've never put down one that looks bad.Listone wood is incredible but you'll pay through the arse for it. Stick it down rather than float it. Undercut the doors, take off your skirts. It's more work, but there's nothing worse than a solid floor ruined by shitty looking scotia.
