Looks like i may have found a deal that i have to act fast on.

It's only a 125 scooter, yes i know but the insurance is much, much cheaper than a bike and i just need to get from A to B in town and build up some NCD.

Only concern is that i did my CBT (clutch and gear) back in March 2015 and not ridden since (life got in the way). I was planning on retaking my CBT before buying but It looks like i would have to buy and ride back across town before i can redo it.

Am i being mad to even consider it or as long i take it steady and use back roads be okay? I'm cycle in heavy london traffic most days so I'm very traffic aware, (famous last words)

Is your cbt not valid dor scoot ? 2 year life on them.otherwise riding otherwise in accordance to licence ..possible voiding insurance ..could rack up more than 6 points and you could lose licence

If you completed your cbt in march '15' its still valid until march next year.

I would get the test booked asap

Or is it a confidence issue not a im going illegally issue . Apolgies if misread

Not a legality issue. I'm legal till early march. I can redo by then,

I think if you're having to ask, then confidence is definitely an issue

It's hard for anyone here to say just how nervous/confident you are, only you can really make that call

Just how far a journey would it be?

After 15 years of not riding, I bought a 50cc scooter from East London and rode it out to Farnborough. That was certainly a trek, and it wasn't easy avoiding motorways or dual carriageways but I survived :)

When I bought a scooter on a mad impulse, I'd never even done a CBT. I didn't need one, as I got my car licence way back when in the time of Noah. The first time I took it out on the road, I made sure I chose a time when the roads were going to be quiet, so that if I did something a bit wrong it wouldn't be a big issue. Is that an option? You could buy the thing, hole up in a cafe with a cuppa until later and then ride home. Only make sure take a big lock with you.

If your CBT went fine, what makes you think you can't ride it home??

Man-up and ride it home

Not long after I sat my test I rode Boris bikes in London and my motorbike... I felt safer on my motorbike.

Unlike the pushbike on scooter once ahead of traffic you will stay ahead of it... Filter get to front and do it again... I would say choose quite time and sensible roads (not necessarily back roads). Take it easy do your life savers your used to pushbikes you will probably be fine....

take it nice amd easy reckon you'll be fine. most drivers in town are quite aware of bikes it's the other scooter riders you'll need to be extra aware of  most of them are delivery people with strict time frames and a massive lack of self preservation

The only way to overcome your fear is to face it, get the bike and ride it :D Use roads you know well in times you are used to it. You won't have time to be nervous when it's busy, you will be focused :thumb:
