LifeofPhil Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 I'm talking about my lid not my jewels. How do you guys keep your lid from stinking up from sweat and bad breath and so on? Sprayed some aftershave in to it but got to be a better idea than that Quote
mikestrivens Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 I always wear a balaclava under my skid lid to reduce the sweat etc from contaminating the padding, but at the end of the day they still need cleaning occasionally. Quote
Snod Blatter Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 Can you not remove the cushiony pads and wash them? Quote
Arwen Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 Remove the lining and wash it every so often. Quote
onesea Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I had thought I had big problem with a stinky helmet... I cleaned the liner and tried all sorts and it did smell better Febreze is quite good, probably kinder to liner than aftershave.... Then one day I realised it was no longer my Helmet that smelled but my Buff, neck tube or what ever you want to call it.. Put that through washing machine and happy days, smell reduced... Quote
Guest Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I was given a bottle of thishttps://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Product.do?method=view&n=7823&p=822264&d=124&c=4&l=2&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Base&utm_campaign=General%20Helmet%20Accessories&gclid=Cj0KCQiA-qDTBRD-ARIsAJ_10yIa4LraGDqWk0sBO7-M1D2r1FvoA4k_qHTv9E-93QZg459qkHLdzYcaAm9_EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.dsmotul helmet interior clean. works well, not sure I'd buy it myself as not the cheapest. come to think of it why would someone give me something like that, what are they trying to tell me? Six30 Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 Brush your teeth and wash your hair more often... Quote
Throttled Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 There gets to a point where replacement is the only option. I have found the sprays and washing to be of limited effect. It is a shame makers do not seem to design and sell the padding separately so the interior can be replaced. Quote
SlowBusa Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I must be in the minority ..........my helmet never stinks Quote

Mr Fro Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 A balaclava isn't a great idea in my book as it adds to the circumference of your bonce so the lining gives and makes the lid loose if you don't wear it.More importantly though it messes up your hair. Quote
mikestrivens Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 The silk balaclavas that I use are so thin for this very reason. Quote

oldgrump Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I must be in the minority ..........my helmet never stinks Never had a problem either, never wear a balaclava either. but most helmets can change liners. Quote
Throttled Posted January 25, 2018 Posted January 25, 2018 I have parts of the lining for sale, but never an entire replacement liner where everything inside can be replaced, so it like an entirely new interior. I have mainly had Shark helmets. Quote
Britfin Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 I use Johnsons baby shampoo. Twice a year, or more if needed, I remove the lining and hand wash with the shampoo, taking great care not to deform the liner, rinse it with clean water (which is very easy because it's baby shampoo) and air dry it over night. Cheap as chips. Quote
