Mickly Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 Does anyone know if you can buy a lead with a Tamiya female connector and lightning male connector?I ask coz I want to use my I-phone for Google maps as sat nav and the obvious power supply on the mighty Speedtriple is via the Tamiya connector that exits from the LH side of the tankI’m off on a trip down to Newquay ( Cornwall ) on Saturday and want to bag the Devon tags on the way there and the way back, without using Motorways ( coz they’re boring ) and it’s a bit convoluted, don’t usually worry about getting lost as it’s part of the fun, but I want to be there before midnight!! Gerontious Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 (edited) very unlikely.I doubt that you have enough time but my strategy would be to replace the Tamiya connector with a DIN socket.. and that will open up a whole raft of possibilites. DIN is far more widely supported than Tamiya.Once you have that then it becomes a lot easier.. I would use a Din plug with a USB female socket, this will sort out the voltage.. then just get a USB to Lightning cable of the appropriate length. (Both easily sourced from eBay)My bike has a DIN.. and so it only cost me a few quid to sort out the power for my Ipad when I went camping to Italy a few years back. USB/DIN plug.. and then the cable. Edited June 19, 2018 by Gerontious Quote
Mickly Posted June 19, 2018 Author Posted June 19, 2018 True, but you can get chargers that fit into a cars 12v fag lighter socket, they have internal gubbins* that regulate the charge.* Gubbins is a technical term for stuff I don’t understand Quote
TimR Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 (edited) Tamiya to usb https://www.infinitymotorcycles.com/product/optimate-m79-o101-uni-usb-charger-extended-tm?gclid=CjwKCAjw06LZBRBNEiwA2vgMVducEEl4nQywGXJRDM1woOA_l1hAniyyNUCTcb5bKawstt4HL7mcGRoCDAIQAvD_BwEi think you mean male plug as the lead sticking out on your bike will be female ( its has the other connector slide into it these can be found in most infinity/ good bike stockists Edited June 19, 2018 by TimR Quote

raesewell Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 That USB socket is only 1 amp and if you are going to use a phone as a Sat Nav you need a 2.1 amp charger to keep the phone charged. Quote
Mickly Posted June 19, 2018 Author Posted June 19, 2018 Oh god, my head hurts - bloody techGonna buy a map Quote
Stu Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 I use a short extension which connects to my optimate charging lead via the tamiya connection then runs to a cigarette socket that I can then plug most things in which if I want to charge a phone I have a mini dual USB charger that's 2.1amp so I can charge mine and the wife's phone if I need to Quote
oldgrump Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 Oh god, my head hurts - bloody techGonna buy a map At least with a road map, you get to pick the roads you want to ride, not the shit roads that sat navs take you on. And there is some fast B roads across exmoor Enjoy your weekend. Quote
