I don't know anything about chemical differences but you run the risk of making your visor brittle or worse by using non specific cleaners. Visors are expensive to replace, usually just clean water and a soft cloth is suffice.

You can get spectacle spray cleaner from specsavers which is specifically made for tv/monitor screens and specs.

They’re cheap and work well at allowing the rain to roll off.

Kitchen roll......soaking wet left on visor and screen for 5 minutes.......then lift off.

Job done......no chemicals, or hard wiping which can leave minute scratches.

I use windowlene or supermarket cheapo equivalent, it's only on for a few seconds so what's the worst that can happen. My visor is about 2 years old now.

Job done......no chemicals, or hard wiping which can leave minute scratches.

 

Spot on for dried on bugs

If I've access to a sink I go for running water to deal with good old blighty road grime otherwise Aldi windowcleaner & a microfiber

Being a chemical doesn't make it bad. Water is a chemical. I was asking if the actual composition was different to a house hold cleaner (which we spray and breath)

You answer reminds me of the sales assistant at my local J&S when I told him that I sometimes clean my chain with paraffin rather than a branded cleaner. He said it might corrode the chain or the o-rings, but then did admit that he didn't know "what is in it". Paraffin is a light oil. Ignorance is why we give our money to big corporation ....... and governments.

All this sort of thing reminds me of the car oil v bike oil argument....
