Pbassred Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 So the UK is mostly locked down with Covid-19I just got a call from my mechanic. Its booked in for routine work. I was expecting it to be about cancellation but no. They will be open. Here's the thing though. I will need to deliver it and I cant wait around while they work, the wife will need to pick up and drop off.Is that legal? Quote
Guest Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Bozo did not make it clear enough.......he should have said NOBODY but docs, vets, chemists, food shops, and petrol stations can open. Quote
Smithers Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Bozo did not make it clear enough.......he should have said NOBODY but docs, vets, chemists, food shops, and petrol stations can open. Perhaps his garage sells petrol? Quote
Baldrick Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Yep, Michael Gove was on earlier answering questions and said garages can stay open to keep people on the road. Quote
Stu Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 They are open to keep services running If you're a key worker and you need your car for work if they are shut you're screwed Quote
dynax Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Good to know, our car is on Motability and due for MOT before June Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 I read that they are looking into MOTs in case people can't get them done - ie there might be a grace period. Quote
Stu Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 well my two cars will get done! I will book them in with my mate and due to social distancing I will give him the details and he can post the MOT out to me Quote
FallingDown Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 As far as I understood it everyone can go to work at the moment if they can't work from home. It's not been limited to essential workers only so it doesn't matter if mechanics are designated ...yet.... I would also say that maintaing a vehicle is nessacary so therefore you should be able to drop it off with some help from your wife. However, bump into one of these police officers that makes up rules and laws in his/her head and you could be in for some irritation of the highest level. Quote
onesea Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 Mine is planning on staying open he has contract for maintenance for council and will priorities keeping, key workers on the road as well. Hopefully that will keep him going... Quote
Ian Frog Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 I expect ATS will do the same.I remember being asked if I minded being bumped down the queue when an ambulance came in with a damaged tyre.Fair play to all the people in the queue we just said go for it and headed for the coffee machine.CheersIan Quote
