The left hand one turns out to be fine, it's the right hand one that has gone. It's pretty cruddy so I'll leave it to soak in penetrating fluid before trying to remove the bearing. I'll replace both anyway with new seals. My old Kawasaki had 3 bearings in the rear Do you have a bearing puller Edited February 9 by V650 1 Quote

Stu Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 Heating the alloy expands it quicker than the steel bearings and in some cases they can just drop out! I had it on my mates GS they would not budge until I warmed it up with a heat gun turned it over and dropped the wheel on to a spare tyre I had and they just fell out 3 Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Progress so far. Using my home made bearing removing tool. 8 Quote
Ian Frog Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Back in Lanzarote and hired the little V.Strom again. Famara beach 22degrees at 10 past 10 in the morning so will bimble till late lunch then retreat to shady bar ! Got bike for a week for 375 euros includinginsurance which I didn't think was too bad. Cheers Ian 8 Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Hmmm...the bearings for the CBF rear wheel arrived, ordered on ebay. One is branded as advertised (Koyo), the other two have no branding on them. I've asked the seller to confirm where they come from before I fit them. They may be fine but the listing said all three were Koyo. 1 1 Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted February 12 Posted February 12 The seller tells me they ran out of Koyo bearings so reolaced them from a company called Simply Bearings. Anyone had bearings from them? ie Are they from a decent manufacturer? Quote
Ian Frog Posted February 12 Posted February 12 There is a statue of this prawn on the road to Orzola and I have always wanted to stop and get a pic of a bike in front of it. As it's in the middle of a major road Carol was less than keen! So I was pleased to see it's brother in a car park at the Jameos De Aqua just up the road. By the way this riding in winter lark seems easier this year. Cheers Ian 4 Quote

That's one option. But I'll have to cover postage. We live some distance from the post office. And they may be perfectly OK. Just worth asking if anyone has had bearings from them as they're a big supplier. Just that I've not used them before. 2 Quote
Mississippi Bullfrog Posted February 12 Posted February 12 On the other hand ...they might not be OK. I tracked the specifications of the unknown bearings and found they sell them for £3.83. Quite a bit less than I paid for Koyo bearings. 2 Quote

Ask the supplier where they source their bearings from. If it's unbranded China suggest you don't use them. We use SKF bearings which may be made in China but the quality is still OK. I had this removed from the Ducati and it was unbranded and only 2 years old. I think it had been fitted when someone took the wheel off to change the tyre and wrecked the original. Quote

No reply...hence I went looking myself. Rather cross because the seller had very good feedback and listed the sale as Koyo bearings which are fine. 1 Quote

bonio Posted February 12 Posted February 12 @Mississippi Bullfrog You shouldn't have to pay for return postage to return something not as described. Since the error lies with the seller, they have the obligation to cover the return costs. Given they're cheap uns, they might even refund the money without asking for them back. 2 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Yeah sounds like they got it from a supplier, might be correct for size but no way to confirm it’s actually correct for spec. Send them back and get a refund, bad rep these cowboys. 1 Quote
bud Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Simply bearings will supply all different grades of bearings. I've used them in the past. But I would be looking at a refund if not Koyo, or SKF. You want at least an equivalent to what you ordered. Quote

RideWithStyles Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Sizes maybe correct but is the spec of load, speed and stresses it has to correct? If it can’t be confirmed consider it not up to the job! A sudden collapse of a bearing or two on a bike is a very serious problem. Quote
Tinkicker Posted February 14 Posted February 14 (edited) One non essential part was missing from my DT175mx. The helmet lock. At £95 plus shipping, it was going to stay missing. Even the odd rusty used ones turning up on fleabay were upwards of £50. Two years of searching later, I came across a company in Singapore specialising in NoS bike parts and found they just got a new one in stock for £50 and free airmail shipping to the UK. Duly ordered. https://www.oldpartsshop.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1584 Edited February 14 by Tinkicker 4 2 Quote

Capt Sisko Posted February 14 Posted February 14 (edited) I had to investigate an absolute disaster. The heated seat stopped working! I mean if it wasn't for the dirty great big fairing & screen on my R1250RT that diverts most of the cold air away from you, the heated grips, my heated vest, trousers, insoles and gloves, then several woolly layers and a GoreTex suit I might have got cold. It was only a broken connector and BMW relieved me of £22 for a new cable, but at least my nether regions will be warm. Edited February 14 by Capt Sisko 2 5 Quote

RideWithStyles Posted February 14 Posted February 14 I laugh even harder as STU being a bm lover yet completely ignores capty post oblivious to it. . (trying to avoid points to a ban for a bit longer…) Quote
