Nooooob Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Hi All,As the username suggests I am new to this whole thing of riding a bike, well to be honest I haven't even started and I suppose I am coming here to validate my thoughts on how to start.I am really excited to get into motorcycle riding and want to enter into it as safely and competently as possible. Due to lock down I work from home and the thought of going back to commuting on PT when I could have the freedom of riding a bike is horrible. Post Lock-down I am hoping I can work from home more and only commute twice a week. My commute is 10 miles each way.My plan for riding is to gain my CBT and then start riding a 125 to get competent and experienced as a rider and do the commute a couple of times a week when lockdown is over. Then over time do either my DAS or take it a little slowly and do the MOD 1 and MOD 2.I would appreciate and advice or guidance you would have with regards to my plan above. Quote
Tiggie Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Welcome to the Forum Can't add any more to your plan as that looks good to me Quote
Rob Taylor Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 I did my test before all these changes, but what I did was cbt, bought a cheap yamaha sr125, poodled round on that every day getting some confidence, took my standard test then carried on with the 125 till the two years were up then climbed slowly from then. 250, 500, 750 then 900s (which I'm happy to stick at).You come across as very sensible and your plan sounds good. Get a 125 that you'll be happy to ride for a while rather than just trying to get the biggest, fastest bike you can as soon as possible. It's much better to make all of your early on mistakes on a cheaper low powered bije, and your riding skills will only improve. Quote

WD-40 Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 My advice is book whatever needs to be booked and go for it. When you get a bike you will want to be commuting more often instead of less Quote
rennie Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Hello and Welcome Get the CBT booked and go for it Quote
Bender Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 (edited) Yup get cbt booked, buy a good used jap 125, it will hold its value then get as much road time as possible. Edited May 30, 2020 by Bender Quote
Tiggie Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Definitely the way to go. If you buy a used Japanese bike for £1000 you will get the same back when its time to sell. If you buy a new chinese bike for say £2000 then odds are you will get less than half of that when you sell. Quote

gymwitch Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Got an automatic 125 scooter quite by chance. Did my CBT Rode around for about 1 year, hated it as i really prefer a bike so sold it and got a Honda cbr 125. Rode that for a year and did another CBT. Now im going to do my test but i have a lesson booked for this monday to see what i need to do. Your plan sounds good Quote
bonio Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 Your plan is a good one. Get the CBT now and commute on L plates on a 125. You can decide later whether to do DAS in one go, or whether to take it in stages. Quote
