Welcome to the forum

Where is this tank exactly? I'm struggling to think what it could be

Correct me if I'm wrong but surely that IS the petrol tank and the one on top of the frame is a dummy . So how come you're ripping this bike apart without a manual ?https://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-xv535-up-1995-4kua-europe-254ku-300e1_model38972/partslist/0027.html#.XzjwwWnTWyU

Its definitely a collector box of some description

I am amazed it still has the original exhaust still on it, I would bin it and put aftermarket exhaust on it and save on the weight.

I think you could be right that its part of the Exhaust system thanks for all your help 🙂

Little bit of choppy-choppy, weldy-weldy and you can lose the box and have a nice straight through system. 8-)
