Overheating?

While bumbling through Cambridge yesterday I noticed the temp gauge was nearly at the top but the fan cut in to prevent it.

Once I was moving again it dropped down to half way.

I've never had a bike get so hot, coolant is present in rad but I do wonder if it’s circulating properly.

Any ideas or should I not be too concerned?

What temperature? My bike used to get to over 100 degrees in summer in traffic.

I don't get worried unless steam starts pouring out of somewhere.

Can’t be precise but a good 3/4 to 7/8 up the gauge

I wouldn't worry as the temp went down when the fan kicked in 

 

You will be chasing this for years if you start worrying  

 

At most I would just change the coolant for peace of mind more than anything

Today arrived to Croatia, outside temperature was 28, which is not to hot, but 45 min waiting on border crossing under sun without shade, my nuts were 120 degrees at least.

@Paul-KentI would be more worried if it didn't come on in traffic when it's hot.

Sounds like perfectly normal behaviour to me .
