I’m off to Glasgow to buy a new lid (Shoei Neotec) and intercom (matching Sena). I’ve tried to find an interesting route but Google maps keeps sending me on the M74. 🙁

PS. Sportsbikeshop is too far away* and I need to try the new lid on before coughing up that amount of money.

*the route is also bloody tedious.

Free returns from sportsbikeshop 🤣

You have selected avoid motorways haven’t you? If so then it looks like there's no alternative route

The A74 (M) isn’t recognised as a motorway. I could go via Kilmarnock…

Infinity is offering a Neotec 2 Splicer with a decent discount. Newcastle is 50 miles, Glasgow 88 for us. The difference is balanced by my popping to see the grandkids in Old Kilpatrick.

Sorry can't help with directions, I've only ever gone M74 onto M8, and yes it is boring .... Damn good helmet and intercom though, that's what I use now, can't fault it, one of the few helmets I've owned that I never get a headache with .... unless my wife is on intercom VOX on a long journey that is 🥴

I have the original Neotec, my good lady has the Neotec 2. Time to upgrade. My Scala intercom is knackered and the Sena seems a good upgrade. I’m hoping it’ll pair with her Scala. If not then that’s going to be a painful upgrade cost.

I quite like the Sena, I know it pairs OK with cardo, and supposedly pairs ok with other makes?  My only dislike with the Sena is that it can't be removed from the helmet for charging, just a minor niggle though .... Good luck with it 👍

When I ride up to Scotland I often turn off the motorway near Gretna and take the A75 to Dumfries and then the A76 through to Irvine and Largs … of course it is miles longer than the motorway. But more interesting

There's an update for Google maps that gives you the option to plan the route for motorbikes. I've found that if you use the route option for cars it gives you a different route to bikes in some cases. I also keep the avoid motorways/highways and toll roads option ticked.

Probably too late now but I always ride from Carlisle to the outskirts of Glasgow on the B7076 / B7078 . https://www.roads.org.uk/articles/b7076-and-b7078 This little used road is composed largely of sections of the old A74 that have been reduced to two carriageways .

How did it go?

The motorway there wasn’t too bad but I needed fuel when I reached the outskirts of Glasgow so left it to find fuel. My satnav then sent me in via the A8, which was a bit tedious. I missed a turning due to not being able to see the satnav due to the sun reflecting off the glass. The bloody thing then put me back on the M8 and for a couple of miles  before sending me back. Or, at least, that was the intention. Unfortunately many of the M8 on ramps are undergoing structural work and every one it sent me to was closed. What a pain in the arse! I eventually found my way by just heading in the general direction that I thought it would be and letting the sat nav sort out the last few hundred metres.

I was a bit hot and bothered by the time I arrived, and just a bit annoyed that I’d ridden about 15 miles in the city to cover about 6 miles of distance from the petrol station.

To too it off, they didn’t have the colour I wanted in stock, nor the intercom. Still, I tried on a lid to check size and realised I actually liked the effect, so bought it. The intercom is being posted to me, hopefully arriving in the next few days.

I wore the new helmet for the return journey to find that there is a pressure point that I need to deal with. I had the same issue with the previous lid but had forgotten. An easy fix… I just need to deform the styrene a little local to the pressure point - locating the exact spot will need some careful measuring is all.

Anyway, this is it…

Also you can’t use AND charge the Sena unlike the Cardo. With my old Cardo I have ended up riding with it plugged in to power and charge it. The Sena app, in my opinion, is not as good as the Cardo either. But I do like the voice commands with the Sena (hello Sena).

So far the Sena has been relatively easy to install and pair with satnav and phone. I can’t get it to pair with the Cardo, though. I’m not sure I want to sling out the price of another Sena for my good lady (I’m incurring a lot of other costs right now).

If was a faff, but we did manage to pair it with my mates Cardo when we went up to Scotland.  I know what you mean about having to shell out on another unit for the missus, cost quickly starts to rack up ....
