onesea Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 For 7 years my bikes have lived in a block, near my house like 100m away. The garage has had no extra security no power. I have tried on anonymity never leaving bike outside garage Cleaning it outside house etc Apparently in the last couple of days there has been an attempted brake in. A near by neighbour saw a van in the night with 2 lads trying to brake into one of the garages (not mine). She asked what they where doing and when appropriate told them to "f**k off". They did Sadly I am left hoping, 1, It was opportunists 2, Maybe my plan has worked atleast once. Non of the other garages have much, some garden tools some general garage junk, a trailer etc. Once in the garage they could make as much noise as they wished and none would be the wiser so extra security seems pointless. The best extra security is probably the pair of oars and outboard and hanging bits of would that will fall or damage them if they are not weary, it wood feel like the boy from home alone got there first Quote
daveinlim Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Having an tracker like monimoto would alert you to any movement of your bike in the night. Some locks would then slow down theives and give you a chance to save your bike. There's internal barriers like a pole that goes across the inside of the garage door. But that's expensive so depends on budget Quote

Although they are all in the low value bracket 1-2k that they are going to be written off if recovered. The door does have battery alarm on but unless some one is walking past to hear it. Quote
Tiggie Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 If you aren't planning on riding for a while you could reverse the bike into your garage, leave it in gear and remove the clutch lever. Won't stop 2 people carrying it but I reckon it'd stop a lot of thieves from bothering unless they really wanted your particular bike Quote

Tiggie Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Not worth the hassle then My other ideas involve barbed wire and car batteries Quote
Tankbag Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 With shotgun blanks ( despite what we all think ) Quote
onesea Posted September 29, 2022 Author Posted September 29, 2022 Neighbours all alerted if it happens again they have my number. Plan is simple I will approach, find out what is going on. Use her car to block any vehicle in. If they kick off I will come back with the dogs (not that they are vicious), they make lots of noise. She will call police give situation and if they are not coming say "I knew those bikes would be the death of him". Quote
Bender Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 What's distance from garage to house Quote
manxie49 Posted September 29, 2022 Posted September 29, 2022 Ground anchor and as Daveinlim said, Monimoto is pretty good. I used to have one, I was in Northumberland a few years ago, staying at a hotel, phone starts messaging me that my bike is moving, thankfully it wasn't someone trying to steal it, it was someone sitting their kid on it for a photo. But it did it's job and definitely gives you a heads up if someone starts tinkering with your bike, you could even put it on the inside of the garage door, so you know if someone is trying to get the door open. 1 Quote
Breezin Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 If I was in that situation I'd think about a home alarm kit in the garage, with a cheap sim in the control set to dial my phone. Quote
