CBT then Direct Access - bike buying advice

Hi, just starting on my bike journey. Have my CBT soon and then straight into direct access training, mod1 & 2 tests booked, hopefully all passed within 2-3 months. Question is - I want to buy a bike straight away. I know I can get a 125 after I get the CBT and upgrade later but is it possible to get a bigger bike that is restricted somehow to train on during my direct access course? Instead of getting a 125 now and then upgrading later. Or am I limited to a 125 until I pass the direct access tests?

Cheers, Gary.

With cbt you can only ride 125, you can ride bigger but only with instructor in tow with insurance to go with said instructor.

Would be pointless getting something restricted to 125 any way, you would have a heavier bike with no power 😁 just get a 125, don't get Chinese tat, if you buy something good you shouldn't loose out on it when you sell it 👍

Personally I would wait until you’ve done all your tests and then go for the bike you want.
You will find it very difficult to get test ride from a dealer until you have been riding for 12 months. You can go and sit on them to get a feel, but in all honesty you won’t know if a bike fits you until you have ridden it. Catch 22 for a while.
Don’t be put off by big CC’s. Get the bike you want.  As long as you respect the bike then you’ll be fine. Just build up your experience slowly.

Good luck with it all.

Basically, no, there's no easy way to ride your own big bike between CBT and the test. Although you can ride it when accompanied by instructor, getting insurance is a major headache. Easier by far to take the DAS lessons, pass the test, and then buy your bike. Also, since you'll at least have ridden on one or perhaps two different bikes, you'll have a slightly better idea of the kind of bike you're going to be comfortable riding.
