mealexme Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 I'm thinking of getting a little second job to help with the finances, and thought it might be fun to join the Domino delivery crew, riding around on scooters all day and eating peoples pizzas. No wait, delivering. Delivering peoples pizzas. I must remember to get that right before the interview. But then I got to thinking. If I use their bikes, they all have L-plates on them. Now, I've had my licence for over 10 years and I've done a bit of research on this, but I can't find anywhere that says for definite if I can ride with L-plates or not? The .gov website says they "should" be removed or covered, but then other websites say they "must" be remove and I can't find anything definitive. 1 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Admittedly this is an uninformed response, but I'd go with should. Quote
Stu Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Putting a bit of black tape across the L plate is usually enough Quote
Old-codger Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Have a read of this I think it answers your question. L plate sizes - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) What used to be done when a qualified person drove a vehicle with L plates fitted as Stu suggested to put a black tape cross over the plate. Quote
RideWithStyles Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Yea ive just put black tape crossed up over the plates when ive had to ride the wifes bike for longer journeys (motorway use) but for everything else i haven't really bothered cos it more important that a beginner or restricted license holder has the plates on to make other road users know... mind you you dont have get some puzzled looks when you bag a few over takes on cars etc and they see the little bike with a topbox and L plates . They probably think your a delivery rider, drug runner or thief. Quote
RideWithStyles Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Luckily i wear a helmet then.... Quote
Bender Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 You must display L plates while a learner, but should remove them when not. One gets you 6 points for not doing it, the other probably a telling off from a condescending traffic cop with anpr who is bored. 3 1 Quote
Bungleaio Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 I rode back from the test centre with L plates on, if its not allowed then they wouldn't have permitted it. Quote

mealexme Posted November 20, 2023 Author Posted November 20, 2023 Thanks for the replies. They never got back to me, so it looks like it's not an issue I'm going to have to deal with anyway Quote

He also said it’s now your licence ride as you want. I believe you can ride with L plates on I know some local delivery riders do, when using delivery scooters. Quote
Blackholesun Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 I’ve heard before they make you take a cbt even if you have a full licence 1 Quote
