AstronautNinja Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 As above. Any good apps for route planning? I used to use strava for the push bike etc and export to the bikes computer. Something similar would be useful as the BMW's app will accept gpx files etc I will actually have a look back at Strava, that may still be of use. Cheers Quote
bonio Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 You'll get as many recommendations here as there are possible answers. Anyway, I get to go first: I use myrouteapp. They have two apps: one for planning, the other for navigation. Their planning app is a bit rubbish on the phone, but it's first class if you use a laptop: you can plan your routes using google maps, managing waypoints just by pointing and clicking, or dragging and dropping. You can add as many way points as you like, and export to gpx or whatever when you're done. 2 2 Quote

I’ve used MRA via web browser (Safari) on my iPad for planning the daily routes for this tour and it’s worked pretty well. Transfer to the Garmin Zumo XT satnav using the MRA App and Garmin Drive is simple. The only issue we’ve had is when the hotel’s Wi-Fi has been poor - I’ve had to use my mobile data 1 1 Quote
manxie49 Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 Another one here for the MRA app. I've been using it for some time now. Simple to use, I also plan the trips on the computer and transfer them to my Garmin without any problems. As my loving wife tells me "if I can do it anyone can" 1 1 1 Quote
JRH Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 +1 for MRA. Plan route on IPad, can open route on LapTop and then transfer to Garmin Zumo. MRA can also export to many different SatNavs. 3 1 Quote
ColinWB Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 What subscription do you have? Free/Silver/Gold? Quote

I initially had the free version. Special discounted price for lifetime cost me 37 Euro, I think it's normally about 65 or 70. 1 Quote
Gerontious Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 I never got on with MRA. As I have a Garmin as well as an Apple computer. I find it’s simpler to use Garmins own route planner - Basecamp. which some people seem to have huge problems with but to me is incredibly simple. I never use waypoints. ive been told that basecamp for windows is a POS. I can’t comment on that as I’ve not had a windows device since 2011. It works well on MacOS. 1 Quote

MRA works fine though on my PC and also on my Android tablet and phone. Quote
Simon Davey Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 (edited) I've just registered with MRA, and used the web based app to create a few routes, it's bloody brilliant!! So whether using PC or Mac, or Android tablet, all you have to do is login to find your saved routes etc. There's even a choice of export formats, and as well uploading via USB (install the driver part of the app) you can share via link etc. The scenic roundtour is excellent, select a starting (which is also the finish) point, select how many kilometres you want to travel and it will just generate a selection. Stu Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 MRA all the way these days I have the gold membership and the navigation app just in case the Garmin fails The route planning on a mobile device has just got a lot easier and simpler than it used to be 2 1 Quote
Yorky Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 MRA for me also. Gold lifetime thanks to @Stu. Also using the nav app now through a Carpuride and Android Auto. I tried using the BMW Connected app for 3 years, 1st year was garbage, 2nd year was good and I thought all was sweet, this year it's gone back to garbage so I've given up with it. Quote
AstronautNinja Posted October 22, 2024 Author Posted October 22, 2024 Any suggestions for pre planning green lane rides etc guys? I may start a new thread but figured I'd ask here first. Started a trail on MRA but it doesn't have any of the little lanes etc. I've joined the TRF and have access to their map so I know where I plan to ride but life would be easier if I could plan my route to the lanes etc aswell as the lanes I plan to ride all in one gpx file. The TRF group I’m in did a tutorial on ‘Outdoor’ Active’ combined with the GRM, I find it excellent, even for planning road routes, can then export a GPX file to my sat nav 1 Quote

Yep, do the planning on the PC and use the app on your phone as guidance on the road if you’ve not got satnav 1 Quote
