Broken Strand ??? Maybe remove the cable completely and manually slide it through & see if you get the same feeling? 1 Quote
husoi Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 Sounds like a broken strand yes As @Micklysays, remove the cables and inspect it for damaged strand. Could be something (dried oil or dried grease) inside the cable housing thingy. A good wash with plenty wd40 or carb/brake cleaner won't go a miss followed by some silicone oil to lubricate it before returning the cables in. 1 Quote
Bianco2564 Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 As a side note, my R1 needed a new throttle cable, genuine was around £50. Bought a pattern part for a fraction of the price but it was utter garbage. It didn’t fit very well, when I opened the throttle if felt horrible and didn’t snap shut. Chucked it the bin and stumped up the 50 for OEM. Buy cheap, buy twice. 3 Quote
bud Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 Slinky Glide cables are supposed to be good for the price. Quote
Stu Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 Replace the cable You have to be careful with throttle cables if they have ptfe liners as oiling them can make the liner swell up and grip the cable 1 Quote

It's the oil that causes the issue and causes the PTFE to swell If it contains PTFE it doesn't mean its suitable for use on PTFE 1 Quote

Nick the wanderer Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Only one way to find out. Take it off and have a look. Quote
Tinkicker Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Throttle cable... Primary control. In the slightest doubt replace. 14 quid vs a life in a wheelchair. 4 Quote
RideWithStyles Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 You dont have to fully take it off, just unhinge the throttle body end one and go through the stroke with the lever first , if there is any notch or resistance bin it. might be the other way around? the cable has worn and chamfered or cut into the nylon inner side and that’s the resistance, either way just Makes no difference in the end , agree with Tinkicker just bin it and replace anyway.
