Ellyt247 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 It has got to the point now where I think I need to replace my visor and pinlock as the visibility doesn't look great, it steams up inside my helmet and my visor looks quite scratched up. The question is: do I get another clear visor or should I go for a light smoke (legal) one? I ride all year road, day and night but I am not sure what the visibility will be like at night with the light smoke one. What does everyone else do? Quote

Would way up the cost of replacing the visor and Pinlock, then compare it with the cost of buying a helmet with a drop down internal sun visor. I have three helmets, two were £100, the other was £135, all three have drop down sun visors. Unless of course you're using a helmet that cost a few hundred quid. In that case I would opt for clear only, even if the light smoke is legal (is it daytime only?) and you had an accident at night, you could guarantee the tinted visor would get the blame and make insure void etc etc. Look at this for a bargain, and a highly rated helmet https://www.helmetcity.co.uk/nolan-n100-5-hilltop-black-red-050/ It's £99, and has a drop down sun visor. Most visor and Pinlock combo's are going to cost you roughly £50 at least. Edited January 25 by Simon Davey 2 Quote
husoi Posted January 25 Posted January 25 All depends on the age of your helmet. Is it close to end life? Better spend the money on a nem lid with the features you want. Most new helmets will have shades built in so a clear visor with pinlock would be enough. Tinted visor is good for sunny days but rubbish on cloudy days or riding at night. Quote
manxie49 Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I agree with what the others have said here. I've use a tinted visor on bright sunny days, but, yes, they are complete shite at night, especially going down unlit country lanes. When it came round to replacement I was actually about due a new lid, so purchased one with the drop down, internal visor, seems to do the job, best of both worlds. 2 Quote

Ellyt247 Posted January 25 Author Posted January 25 I've had my HJC for around 3 years and looks and feels good. It already has a drop down sun visor. The purpose of a tinted one was purely for aesthetic but I wanted to make sure it was safe at night. I would love to get a new lid but I think I just need to replace the visor for now 2 Quote
Fiddlesticks Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Just ordered some prescription transitions sunglasses. Until they arrive the drop down sun visor will have to do. Quote

Your experience may differ but I'm afraid my transition sunglasses don't change inside my visor. Mine need direct sunlight. I'm fortunate to have a drop down sun visor. I'm less fortunate that a replacement visor has an RRP of £85 and the best price I can find is £68. And that doesn't include pinlock. I did a try an AliExpress visor which was great but I've since decided that I'm not comfortable having an unknown quality of plastic that close to my eyes in the event of an accident. 2 Quote

I ordered the XtrActive ones. An extra 20 squids but they're supposed to work behind car windscreens so I'll let you know. 1 Quote

RideWithStyles Posted January 25 Posted January 25 One helmet, 1 pin lock and 2 visors. pinlock is clear and is attached to the clear visor. for summer and very bright days it is tinted. Most good tints (apart from the absolute black from reputable sellers are ok most of the time for the usual spring and summer use. Quote
bonio Posted January 26 Posted January 26 My light tint is too dark at night. It's not great even on a winters day. In summer, I carry a clear one with just in case I get caught and have to home in the dark. I get my visors from aliexpress. They work out at about £10 each delivered. They fit as well ascrge originals. I often get a new clear one in November if I think the old one is a bit scratched. At that price having two or three isn't a big issue. Quote
RideWithStyles Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I get mine from local stockers, SBS, the visor shop, demon tweeks etc. Quote

But I need to grow up at my age. I've always liked Arai. But at that price it's a real bargain. I will let you know what I think when it's delivered. Edited February 8 by bud 2 1 1 Quote
