  1. There is a market out there for all sorts of custom bikes but building one from scratch with your ideas is all good and well but you would then need someone to buy it with that taste!

I think the challenge will be getting it just right that its customised and just right in that a fair few people like it and want to buy it and doing a good job so it looks smart and well built and not cheap and tacky

There is also a market for custom bikes like older LC's with modern suspension and wheels etc so it might be worth exploring that avenue too I know someone who just spent over 20k getting one built for him

At one point cafe racers was the in thing too but not sure if there is a great demand for them! but saying all that if you are building one bike at a time then you only need one buyer

Good luck with it and I hope it works out for you :thumb:

If it’s not how it came out the factory then it should be declared.

Except if you're insured with bennetts and their policy states whats already covered as per my first post

Other insurance companies do the same so do check with them!

Hastings initial renewal, with no modifications recorded for the bike - £214.24.

Hastings renewal after declaring dealer fitted heated grips, larger screen, crash bungs, cruise control, side stand flat foot - £355.23

On Confused. com, where there is nowhere to add modifications when getting insurance quotes, the second cheapest quote was £355.04 from MCE.

I am not prepared to ditch the comfort of the mods so I am paying the extra, but what a rip off. Though, having never declared any modifications before, I have obviously been saving money for years.

And this is the reason I am with bennetts insurance

Other insurance companies do the same so check the policy wording before declaring mods and buying is what I do

  4. Just got back today and I must say it was a fantastic weekend!

We turned up on Friday afternoon and just mulled around watching a bit of practice then on Saturday we was there for 8:30am to find a good spot just after druids to watch warm ups qualifying and the racing! We never moved all day except for a pee and food  Basking in glorious sunshine all day! Luckily the factor 50 stopped us from burning

Sunday was the main day! we was there for 7.15 parked up right outside the main entrance in our VIP parking spot took a walk around before heading up to the Motorsport vision centre where there was a suite waiting for us with fantastic views plus breakfast dinner and tea (lunch and dinner to you southerners ) and a free bar from 11

We had Jason O'halloran was come up to do a meet and greet

We also had a pit lane walk then laps in a safety car and a grid walk too.

I have put a few pics in the gallery

@StuMates selling a 590, would you say it’s better than an I-phone + ultimate addons case ( my current set up) and what would be a fair price?

I would normally say any dedicated unit it better than a phone

But the way my unit has been behaving just recently I'm not so bloody sure

Been having a few routing problems with the zumo xt and have had to work round them

Saying that the problems don't affect the 590

The 590 is OK but there is battery issues with them but there is an easy fix which helps

It's not always easy to plan routes on the unit and I refer doing it on a obile phone/pc but there is no easy way to transfer routes from your phone to the 590

The screen isn't as bright as your phone or the zumo xt

I would say no more than 200 quid

Bear in mind you can buy a new zumo xt for £350 now even with its routing issues you can work around them easy enough

I’m off to Glasgow to buy a new lid (Shoei Neotec) and intercom (matching Sena). I’ve tried to find an interesting route but Google maps keeps sending me on the M74. 🙁

PS. Sportsbikeshop is too far away* and I need to try the new lid on before coughing up that amount of money.

*the route is also bloody tedious.

    Free returns from sportsbikeshop 🤣

You have selected avoid motorways haven’t you? If so then it looks like there's no alternative route

I tried a LED light but couldn't get on with it, as it didn't light up the back roads very well, and I missed the beam of light you got with conventional bulbs

Did you use a cheap one?

Some of the cheaper ones have the led in the wrong place so the beam of light is altered

I fitted some to the FJR and they was brilliant

  9. 655 miles later and we are back home!

We set off on Tuesday heading to Wales on a pre planned route meandering along the countryside at a steady pace with no rush whatsoever it took us about 7 hours to do 220 miles with 4 stops involved

The route was pretty decent and its probably the best one I have done so far heading to Wales. I avoid as many major roads as possible and just take it steady well whats the rush? its supposed to be a tour right?

We had booked The waterloo Hotel in Betws Y Coed for 3 nights this has lodges away from the hotel with parking right to the door which puts your mind at ease that the bike is close by.

    20220712_172328.jpg

We also had free use of all the facilities at the hotel should you wish which include swimming sauna and a gym if you really want to. We gave it all a miss though

The next day we took a ride to Mach loop. I have seen it mentioned a few times on here so had a google and planned a route which took us straight there and then back up the coast road then heading up towards Snowdon and back in to Betws Y Coed.

The plan was just to go for a ride and if we saw and low flying aircraft then thats a bonus

As we was heading round a plane flew right over our heads and I just saw it disappear  It was low it was loud and it was fast! I would love to have been there early and parked up like all the spotters do for the day

We pulled up at a place near Corris to have a pitstop and keep an eye out to see if anything else followed but no sightings this time!

    image.jpeg

The coast road up through Barmouth and Harlech was pretty decent but was fairly busy! lots of slow bloody tourists

    image.jpeg

    image.jpeg

From Harlech we followed a route through Penrhyndeudraeth, Porthmadog following the A498, A4086 Then the A5 back down to Betws Y Coed stopping for some dinner and to enjoy the views

    image.jpeg

Day 2 was spent just riding around with no real plan except to go to Ponderosa Cafe even though I said I wouldn't due to them lowering the speed limit to 40 on the horseshoe pass:lol:

    image.jpeg

Coming home I decided to take the same route back as it was a decent route

Overall it was another amazing trip to Wales with awesome roads, scenery and weather if you have never visited Wales then stick it on your bucket list just remember to book the weather

The bike was faultless and returned 62.6mpg on the trip according to the on board computer which is what you want when touring
