  1. *Caveat: my 2 stroke knowledge is old and I've probably forgotten a lot* I thought stop angle was more to do with the power profile rather than power output - i.e. shifting the power band up or down the rev range. If it were me I'd bung the OEM back in and see what's what. It would be interesting to make up a load of different stops and see which is the best but that would take ages and cost a fortune in dyno time unless you just happen to have a flow bench.
  2. Why's that TC? Easier getting it off in case of a spill or fewer people racing home sharpish to unpack the shopping?
  3. Who's your supplier Joeman? Last year Nationwide naused my renewal up. Stuck in a complaint and got a cheque for a few hundred quid. That may have had something to do with the wife grinding their ears down with her incessant complaining though.
  4. Ha! Shit night for that guy! Hope you're okey dokey bright side.
  5. You've obviously got more fashion sense than me - I couldn't give a monkey's if I clash.
  6. The warning signs were there:
  7. Maybe their cheaper if they're short.
  8. Aye, depends what you want really. Look at how easy it would be to modify - having the suspension mounts nearer the seat will make it tidier when you lop the back off, things like that. You may need to throw a bit of cash at it but bear in mind that the bits you take off will have some value as spares to someone else which is where you can justify spending a bit more on the original bike (e.g. Japanese). You can get cheap insurance write-offs but they're only good if the frame/engine/bits you want to keep are good.
  9. What car?
  10. Herr-herr-herr.
  11. The things you learn!
  12. I got mine extended - it's good until May I think.
  13. I'll not be changing mine out either because... I can't be arsed! Yeah, let's actually get a day in this year eh? I've still got my vouchers from last year.
  14. The guy who does my dyno stuff (who also races) swears that k&n are arsebollocks. He told me that the OEM filters often out perform all but the expensive aftermarket jobbies.
  15. True dat. Did you stick a quick shift on (I can't remember)?
  16. It's not particularly difficult, a mathodical approach wins every time. Pop to Halfords and grab a set of feelers - they're only a few quid. Make sure you use a Haynes/other guide which will tell you which valves to check at which crank rotation. I find it handy to have a set of vernier or a micrometer to measure the current shim if it's out of spec. Also, I tend to scribble the gap down in a notebook so I don't get lost and so that I can compare the gap values over time.
  17. 1 pound to the first person to Dutch oven their other half while shouting "IT'S GOOD FOR YOU!"
  18. My track bike had a similar thing. I replaced the chain and sprockets because they were past their best bit it still creaked a bit. I spent ages with straight edges aligning the wheel and finally got it right by shimming the front sprocket a smidge. It's worth noting that I'm using a 520 set rather than the 530 OEM set so I had to adjust the chain guide too.
  19. Do it yourself! I adapted some RST trousers to fit a Spyke jacket. Went to the haberdashers for a zip to fit the jacket and sewed it on the zip of the trousers. Diddly done.
  20. Nice, but I don't recall seeing that particular castle on the challenge 100 list. Unlucky mate.
  21. Thanks for sorting this out GOG! Are extra points awarded for getting the bike on the ramparts?

    Happy new year

Happy New Year everyone! So far it's a painful one...
  23. Yup, moly all the way. The Castrol stuff from Halfords is fine - I for one can't justify the silly price of the Honda stuff.
  24. I had the same thing with my old Volvo - a fairy popped out and bent the key blade while I wasn't looking. I wanted a proper OEM key rather than a generic one so I got a blank from eBay and had my local key place cut it out. Can't say I'd be in a rush to send a pic of a key and my address to some bod on the internet.
  25. I wouldn't be worried. Rusty outside plugs aren't uncommon as they can catch the weather easier than the inside ones. Especially if your bike lives outside and the plugs aren't changed that often. The crush washers don't look particularly... crushed. Did they come out quite easily? If the plugs are loose you can get blow-by and mucky threads just like you have. Make sure the new ones are installed correctly and you'll more than likely be fine.
