  1. Just asked the question to them about other charges?

They said not enough evidence photos not clear enough, what more so they need witness that’s known her since school prepared to identify her 3-4 others who will state she was seen driving off. With photos to back up any statements.

With no licence, without permission (if not there’s a case for insurance fraud against mother for allowing her to take car).

There is Atleast driving away from scene of accident..

  2. @Mickly - These are the days that must happen to you.

second hand copy on order for when I get home for 1/3 the price, me being tight fisted,

@Old-codger Adulf hitler my part in his down fall.

read the sample bought now reading.

@husoi The Subtle art of not giving a f*ck,

There is nothing subtle about me not giving a fu*k,  read sample and it didn’t work for me…

    @Steve_M Touching the Void

A bit heavy for my tastes, on holiday.  Strange you should mention “round Ireland with a fridge”. Read it years ago and most of his others good reads, I would recommend to.

@daveinlim Ultra-Processed People: Why Do We All Eat Stuff That Isn’t Food … and Why Can’t We Stop?

Will keep that in mind, as someone who reacts with artificial sweeteners,  it will be interesting.  Now it becomes a challenge eating out without feeling sick.

@goat Another one for the list.

Some of my recommendations of good reads:

Please don’t end the suggestions, keep them rolling.

PS They havent killed me yet 😃

  3. So we are on holiday partner daughter and me.

Plan  to sit in field with dogs and read books...

Not the most adventures holiday, just relax time.

I have read the one they selected for me, the finishing the ones they independent choose (kind of hoping they don't finish them).

I have Kindle App so can download the one I want...

However the selection is rather large.  Preference humorous travel, however open to ideas...

  4. Just got a letter from the police. The person has been released on unconditional bail and charged with….
I knew this as have had reports she has been seen walking past our house, already.

Failure to provide a specimen for analysis.

”What is the minimum penalty for failing to provide a specimen for analysis while driving or attempting to drive?

A 12 month driving disqualification and a band B fine (75 - 125% of relevant weekly income) is the minimum penalty imposed for this offence at Magistrates court.

What is the maximum penalty for failing to provide a specimen for analysis while driving or attempting to drive?

A lengthy driving disqualification of 5 years or more and a 26 week custodial sentence is the maximum penalty imposed for this offence at Magistrates court.“

So I did some homework, as they have no licence the punishment for driving off, no insurance, taking without permission are just driving bans and fines.

So kind of pointless to prosecute for.

  5. Thought I should update, I have to say the person who hit my car was politer, easier and more honest than the insurance company.

So we are away on holiday in next few days.

    Hire Car:

Insurance company, yes, yes you can have a hire car.  Next day phone call from Enterprise car rental.  We have Ford Focus ready for you, meet the dogs.IMG_20230121_124632_HDR.thumb.jpg.12d3790c8a83b053b42ec144d663d8a8.jpg

There was a refusal to give us any larger car.

An absolute refusal to give us any  bigger car.  I highlighted that this would involve us cancelling our holiday.  As we could not all get the destination in the car they are offering no cares given.

    Valuation: £1000

You find a large car with full MOT  for that.  With only age related marks.  The same model at same age was 2-3 times that when searching.

Some urgent searching a car cropped up on FB for car that ticks the boxes. For near enough £3k although both feel its a good deal.

    Insurance company:

You cannot change insurance from your car, we have not written it off.

Yes on your email xxx date and time you clearly state, you have written it off.  No we didn't, oh yes you did. I have proof.

Apparently I became rude when I kept supplying evidence backed responses and he put the phone down.

Next day try again my daughter was present.

She heard the whole conversation, first person we spoke to. As my daughter said was having a bad day and determined to make it every one else's problem.

Second Person - Same phone call yes I can do that.

    - All sorted £1k on way for last car. Apparently by contesting valuation, they would not accept my car as write-off and it could take weeks .  So I accepted valuation and problem solved.  They are now responsible for old car. Old car transferred to collection/ scrap company.

Pop online transfer insurance old car to new car job done.

Me 2k poorer however able to go on holiday in a 3 year newer car.

4- 6 hours of my life wasted on hold to insurance companies.

3 days annual leave spent dealing with this shit not working on my boat.

Not a great result when there was nothing wrong with my old battle bus for my purposes.

Horrible thing to try, generally its months later when the effects catch up.  It's far from a quick and painless death.

The idea was to sell it via a raffle cus I don't know how much its worth, and anything over what it's cost me to build it was gonna go air ambulance after they saved my brother 2 years ago, but I can't so kundà stuffs that up for me.

    Sorry cynical head on:

    • You want to sell raffle tickets for an item, so you can decide what is worth and then give the extra to charity?
    • Will you state the value you put on the bike?
    • Have you got an independent valuation/ condition report?
    • Is there a minimum % or amount going to charity?
    • Or are you just trying to find away to get more money for your bike than people would pay for it?

What's wrong with the Dutch? Pretty harmless in my experience.

They speak there mind and say it as it is, some don't like that.

They also speak English with a strange twang.

I like there gin, salted liquorice and smoked eel plus some others.

  9. I have to nominate myself, last night with another 10 hour shift and no break.

I put my gear on gloves etc, rode out of work.

Got to the garage, before going to the shop I checked for my phone.

No phone, you know how it's in the back of your head the last time you saw it was on the back of the bike.

So slow ride back to the work, looking for signs of it.

A car comes racing the other way, 40mph road and I suspect quicker.

In his rear lights I saw a flicker and a bounce.  A quick U turn and there it was on the road, having just been driven over.

Just fitted a new screen saver and I can honestly say there is not a scratch on the phone.

    Nokia can still make bricks.

Oof, so we have fleeing the scene, false information is treated as failure to exchange information... She's in a bit of strife now.

Make sure witnesses are kept close. People like her tend to double down, rather than give up on the bad behaviour. If you know her name, I might be tempted to see if she's on social media, and make sure she's not trying to thread a story like "he pulled out on me, ran back into his house and then said it was parked, and then he tried to stop me leaving". I've seen a lot of similar stories before, and I know someone who got a molestation accusation, and abuse for years due to a teen girl who went through his garden wall, pissed as a fart. And got colourful with the stories, even though the CCTV showed the entire situation.

Doubt full she could pull that, I first left house in dressing gown.  Was recently heard by neighbours to return from work on bike.

I was advised on scene by witnesses she had given incorrect details.

We have the name and to write my partner "small crimes RUs". She is well known and last I heard it was down to CPU to see if they want to make a case.

  11. Well tonight my car was totalled by a drunk, uninsured driver whilst parked outside my house.

A Nissan X-Trail pushed back 2-3 foot on to the curb and back into my partners car a new to us Nissan Colt which was shunted a further 6’ down the road with handbrake on.

Quite impressive considering it was all done using a Nissan Micra, who’s driver was more worried about her face being damaged having set the air bag off.

Injury wise she’s going to get away with a black eye.

My partner immediately called 999 to report a suspect drunk driver.  Outside I had taken the keys of driver once and returned them when she became agitated. She gave me a false name.

Police arrived after culprit had left scene in the car, a quick assessment of damage/ scene the Police left.

Within 30 minutes they where back to say the driver was apprehended and being taken to custody, police then requested a statement.

Lets hope the courts can follow up on the good work the police have already done.

I am impressed with the response from the local police, knowing the distance they had to travel, being in a largely rural area.

Also great support from my neighbours one side who advised the name given was incorrect, and to neighbours from the other side one of whom who attempted to find the driver of the car afterwards.  I guess I am buying a case of beer for those house holds as this all happened at around midnight.

Tip if ever involved in an incident like this photos of culprit in car in drivers seat may help situation considerably.

If nothing else having the bikes I can get to work tomorrow. My partners car just needs a new number plate. But daylight might give more information.

Lets see what the insurance say tomorrow is my last day at work before our annual holiday and our big car is a write off.

Hire car please set up for annual holiday with 2 dogs and all luggage.

  12. At present is management.

    So far this week:

    - First 10 hour shift, meal break outside 3 hour window 15 minutes late away from work which is about normal,

    - Advanced warning if not compliant with uniform we will get immediate verbal warning (reminder came complete with quotes from disaplinary policy), to be honest this was our line manager quoting instructions given to him,

    - 10 hour shift turned into 10 hour shift with no break,

    - 10 hour shift turned into 12 hour shift however we where given meal break and it was in the allocated 3 hour time slot, getting reports of some teams being told to break. In some quite firm/ rude manners.

    Prior to this

    - I have had to apologize for raising to management the problems caused by working on the hottest day off the year 29c with no air conditioning on vehicle.  This was after 7 hours with no break or access to additional water - my behaviour by raising issue was unacceptable. We just had to get in with job.

I am guessing higher management are due checks and inspections again.  Last time they got pulled up for how they treated staff, so they are trying to improve things for us!

I like my job but the way we are treated is appalling.

  13. I just saw the price of that one and realised that for years phone prices have dropped now they are sneaking back up.

I seem to change phones every 2 years.  Normally due to mal treatment dropped (screen smashed), sunk (2m of water and soft mud I didn't even try), dropped in oil (even after soap and water the mic and speakers never recovered), lost from motorbike.

That's 8 years worth of phones. I used to get them insured.   Now I spend between £100 and £300 on one is cheaper.  SIM only contact £10 a month and gig data I only use 10 on average.

Presently I have a Nokia XR20 meant to be tough 6 months and not a scratch.  Although I am on second screen saver.

A decent camera, GPS for navigation, internet browser, NFC, Bluetooth, WiFi, torch hell what more do you want from a phone.

I think like laptops and PC's you no longer need top end for most uses.  It's just buying at your budget prioritising your features.

  14. Remember the early phones, I cannot say I had one but, some adults did when I was a kid.

Horribly expensive, to big for your pocket, expensive with batteries that could hardly last the day, constant battery anxiety.

It's good that we have moved on with smaller and cheaper phones..Screenshot_20230706-0901002.thumb.png.f3f7b7214b5bcc245913eb1929795fab.png

For £1250 more than my present pocket size phone, what extra can these phones do?

Hello everyone. I'm not a biker by any stretch of the imagination - sorry to disappoint you.

My brother, on the other hand, has just bought his first bike in the UK (against all advice from just about every family member, and every friend he has).

Instead of argueing with the stubborn b@st@rd any longer, I've decided to get on board with the idea. In fact, I've decided to buy him a helmet.

I don't just want any cheap sh1t helmet, I need a decent one.

Bluetooth connectivity and rear facing camera not 100% necessary, but definitely a bonus.

Please, if you have any suggestions or recommendations, I would be eternally grateful.

    Thanks again, all the best.

Good on him, what people fail to mention about motorcycling is that it’s only dangerous compared to cars. Certainly less dangerous than sitting at home feeling miserable. There are plenty more dangerous activities out there.

As for lids, he needs to try some on.

They don’t need to be the most expensive.  They don’t need Bluetooth connection, or rear view cameras all a distraction to start with.  I never even notice the weight saving, I had a carbon one once didn’t notice the difference when I got my next.

I would suggest internal sun visor.

A decent rating on here dose no harm: https://sharp.dft.gov.uk/

Others will shout you must buy the best, as a first lid I would go £100-200 that fits well.  That’s probably the biggest safety factor, a good fit.

IMHO there is little point buying a good first lid, it’s the one he or his kids will drop and scratch until he learns how to look after it.

Bloody Insurance 🤬 received renewal today. up by £200  - so, even though the 3rd party admitted they were at fault, I have to pay this ridiculous hike in cost, why! because claim is not yet settled, or so they say and waiting on court dates etc. I used a comparison site, and its still the same. Could reduce if I remove business use. I have never paid anywhere near £400 in my life. Times are changing. on the upside I should receive my excess back once settled. :bang:

When I had  this I refused to reinsure until claim was settled.
Funnily enough they looked at my cam evidence and claim was settled within 48 hours.

  17. It depends what your drinking and the occasion.

Although I miss the whisky bottles full of peanuts I used to get in Africa.  Looked like you where drinking whisky at a distance.

    Always raised some eye brows.

All I can suggest when doing life savers is to do them a little bit more slowly and deliberately so as to give no option to say it wasn't done. I was given that advice by my instructor for my car license. He said not to look in the mirror just moving your eyes but to move your entire head so the examiner can see you do it.

    Good luck in future

Adjust your mirrors so you have to turn your head slightly too see properly, for your test. Then your mirror checks easily observed.

Test are a pantomime you have to know the part to play as much as what to do.  Sadly like with a pantomime, your audience has to like what your doing as well...

I'm sorry I tried uploading photos but I can't seem to get it to work. Thank you, he was a motorcycle man for over 60 years, both racing and for pleasure and precision engineer for nearly as long. It's a good bike.

    Thank you for your advice.

Be cautious who you take advice from, take a second opinion.  I know of one local bike museum that buys these bike cheap for good cause, display and demonstration etc.

Within months it’s sold at a large premium having been x museum pieces and on display.
